I have a number of pieces from an older chess set. There are no markings other that 1979 Tolkien Enterprises. Does any one know about these? I can post images, I have found nothing online, or at the local game stores.
Many thanks...

I do not know of these. If you do not get a satisfactory reply here, suggest you post in the Tolkien Collector's Guide forums.

A BUNCH of extraordinarily well-informed people/collectors post there.

Hello, I bought a chess set like the one you described while in Germany in 1982. A couple of my pieces were broken during a move- so if you have them I may be interested in purchasing- specifically I am looking for Gollum and a couple of orcs.

(one piece is missing from the pic but not lost) I was wondering if any of you knew what this exact set was called, and/or it's price? I know a similar set: click here for :o $2,019.38+ $210.02 :!: shipping. Was wondering if this one might be as valuable if not more? It's been in my family for YEARS!!! And I am not entirely willing to give it up easily, but for the right price LOL!!!

Hi,
I know these posts are a couple years old, but I believe the set being talked about is probably one made by the Fellowship Foundry in 1978 and 1979, some pics can be found here: http://www.collecttolkien.com/GamesChess.htm

I am very interesting in obtaining a complete set if anyone has any info.

Kingmaker Chess Sets Ltd, Wales (Pontypridd)
They started in Cardiff then moved to Trehafod - A bad move for me after a few late arrivals I lost my job, I was commuting on a unreliable motor bike.
They made many types of chess sets But the Tolkien was their own design from the animated film,
They were made with resin & plaster of Paris, poured into rubber molds and then manipulated to get rid of the air bubbles
dyed, polished.
Hope this Helps
