As the Hobbit movie has a greenlight and is proceeding, perhaps we could find and link (legal links, please) to favorite Hobbit artwork.

Nasmith's Bilbo and the Eagles makes me dizzy. I can feel the height.

Anyone have any links to some good Hobbit illustrations? Or if not good, unusual and interesting?

I find that the Hobbit is often lost in the shadows of it's younger siblings (LOTR and Silm). I just love the book. It's simple, but profound. I can't seem to find a lot of artwork for it (Kind of hoping the movie changes that, and gets folks interested in the Hobbit again).

These are wonderful! thank you! I'll have quite a bit of viewing here. I quite like all the book covers- I wonder how some of the language translates, given the illustrations.

No, I did not scan it. I have not owned it for many years, which is why I used the past tense "had". (My teenage years were many years ago, long before the creation of personal computers and scanners.)

I was so delighted to run across this Hobbit poster that I had to create a log on just so I could create a reply to someone, whom I hope, shares my fond memories of owning this poster. It is my favorite from this time period in his career.

In case you cannot read it, it says......

"He pulled open the door with a jerk, and they all fell in, one on top of the other. More dwarves, four more! And there was Gandalf behind, leaning on his staff and laughing." J.R.R. Tolkien. The Hobbit.

This one appears to have the copyright info printed slightly different from mine. I had to run upstairs and look. I think it is a couple years older. Maybe 1970. Mine says "Copyright 1974 by ROB BROWN and KEN SANDERS DREAM GARDEN ENTERPRISES, all rights reserved, Kamas Utah, 84036"

Robert E. Brown is my uncle. He is from Utah, currently living in California. His brothers and sister own Brown Trout Publishing and Rob has among many other things, illustrated childrens stories and dragon calendars. My sentimental favorite is a book called "Over the Sea to Skye" by Robert Hutchinson.

I wish you could see the detail up close. I cannot begin to express or explain the talent that this man has.

Thanks!
AJ

Thank you for posting the info. Do you have a link to a bigger image of the poster, where we can see some of the detail?

Now I have to go google your uncle's name and see if I can find some of his other work!

Well, it seems that there is that very poster up for auction on eBay right now. The Hobbit poster by Rob Brown, if anyone is fan enough to want it.

Wow. I wish Elven Archer was as swift to moderate stuff like the above which is explictly forbidden as he/she is to lay down 'the law' after randomly wandering into forums that he/she never posts in.

Yes, I know that. I just happen to think that one or two of them are applying their services to the wrong threads.

As long as they're doing their job (I don't care whatever thread), We should be thankful to them. As I am. And after all, Mods should also have a fair bit of fun. ;)
