A story about a Rohan costume and how it changed my life

Postby darclegion2 » Tue May 15, 2012 12:00 pm

Good day,
I feel like this is a great place to tell this story, I think that it is very remarkable, to my life in the least. This is how Tolkien has shaped my life.

I have been a Tolkien fan, since childhood. So when the movies came out I naturally went a seen all of them. First off, I am a big fan of Rohan, especially Eomer.

As I am watching the Battle of Pellenor Fields during the movie in the Return of the King, the Rohan Cavalry charge moved me. I was into costuming and had been for years, so I was inspired to make a Rohan costume. I spent about $3000 and had a professional Eomer costume made. I decided to start going to Rennaisance Faire, once the costume was finished.

So finally it was finished, and I went to a local faire here in Texas, called Excalibur. The entertainment Director seen me and asked me to be on cast the next year because he was so impressed with my costume. That was in 2005. So the very next year I came back with my Eomer costume and was put on Cast and played a character called Eaoden...wearing my Eomer Costume.

That is where I met my wife, on Cast (Excalibur Fantasy Faire 2006), and a joust company called Noble Cause Productions, the beginning of meeting the best friends I have ever had in life. I did that faire, and the very next year I married my wife Lorie, and that same year I trained to become a Jousting Knight on horseback.

I now have 1 daughter and another one on the way in about 8 weeks. I have jousted over 100 times and jousted at many Ren faires in the US.

And this is all because of a Rohan Cavalry charge! If it wasnt for that movie, I would have never met my wife or become a Jousting Knight among other things.....

So Tolkien has shaped my life dramatically....I was at that time in 2005....needing inspiration and I got it.

I have some pics of my costume and other stuff. I have even rode out in a show in Rohan armor on the jousting field or tilt yard, and that was cool, as well as some sword fighting in it. I am on Face book, if you are interested in looking at some pics.

ps, if I placed this story in the wrong section, I tried my best to put it in the right place, feel free to move it to the correct place :)

This is a wonderful story.
The first link is not working for me. You might need to edit with a new link. I would like to see the picture. :)
