Couldn't seem to find any other posts on this,
But I came across the new illustrated edition of The Hobbit (don't know how I missed it) - artwork by a new Tolkien artist on the scene, Jemima Catlin.

Great illustrations! Very different to the masterful Alan Lee, but capture the tone of the book very well.
