From thegd.com

In The News: ROTK Trilogy Wave 2 Hitting Hard...
In GERMANY anyways...Dragonspy Tom sends in this little bombshell that loads of these are hitting the shelves in his neck of the woods. Here is is report:

"Hey, just wanted to let you know that ROTK Trilogy Series 2 has massively hit Germany today. Several Online-Shops and Ebay Traders are offering them in large quanities. The prices are for european standards alright (12-15 Euros) seems like there's no Chase-Figure this time. Faramirs for days!"

NOTE: Similar to last months showing of the same series in Canadian shops...will the US ever see these...shortly...within the next 2 weeks is our bet!

This wave includes the Morgul Lord with mace, Faramir in Gondorian plate armor, Merry in Rohan Armor, and a glow in the dark King of the Dead. As is stated there should be no problem getting any of them. These will all be trilogy packaging. My local TRUs had the last 4 ROTK figures for weeks. Yeah Pippin in armor was a bit hard to find, but Elessar in armor still dozens of them per store literally. All 4 of these figures look really neat...I will post when I find them actually in a store.

Just went on Ebay and there are some listings and they all say rare, very rare, impossible to find, etc. Gadzooks. Yeah because they haven't hit stores yet. Just wait 2 weeks and the U.S. will be swimming in them. People want 7 bucks for shipping which is fine, except they sell for $6 at TRU. Patience really is a virture.

I really hope stores start getting them in soon...I'm getting tired of returning home from my toy hunts empty-handed. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

Yeah I am not going to even go to stores for a couple of weeks. I did go to a store today which I thought might have an Easterling. Didn't find that but I did find another trilogy prolouge Elf. I love those. And they really are hard to find. It is perhaps my favorite toybiz figure. So I bought it. I might give it to some LOTR friend...

Finally bought a TT Eomer. I have had I suppose what will come to be known as coronation Eomer for some time. Great figure. Love the helm, and the expression and scuplt on Eomer's face captures both Eomer and Urban perfectly. Great face scuplt you can't appreciate fully till you take off the helm. Pretty good armor detail as well, all over from boots to gloves. Makes me want an Eomer helm even more. I can't believe if they are doing more helms this would not be on it.

BTW if anyone sees the new ROTK trilogy figures; KOTD, ML, and Merry and Faramir in armor actually in stores, let me know. Still haven't seen any.

I have a collecting question. At Amazon someone reviewed the Helm's Deep pack said since Haldir was an exclusive figure in a pack, it was useless to a collector.

What does that mean?

Some collectors like things individually packaged or something. Whatever. Since that is the only way to get a Haldir who gives a damm frankly? What else are you going to do? I have no idea what that person is talking about. Plus there are only a couple of ways to get a helm's deep Gimli in the U.S. and that is one of them. I have the other figures otherwise I'd snap that one up in a second. It is a GREAT DEAL and a fantastic pack. The comment makes no sense and who cares? If you like it then get it. It is as collectible as anything else ever put out by toybiz more or less, and probably more than less.

BTW sorry about my tone. Not upset at your posting at all but I do find it kind of silly what is or isn't collectible. Just one person's opinion anyway. Plus you are not going to get rich off of toybiz figures no matter what. You might make a few bucks, but buy what you like is my advice. Besides if 98 out of 100 people called it collectible, whould that matter? And as I said it is as 'collectible' as anything else.

No problem whitedruid, I appreciate your answer. I have owned, and enjoyed the Helm's Deep pack since it first came out. I only collect the Toybiz line because I love the movies and the figures, not for any hope of monetary gain. It just seemed like an odd thing to say and I thought maybe there was some sort of criteria for collecting. I like to know how things work, even if they do not always effect me.

It really is a neat pack, and Gimli has a helmet!

Thanks again for the answer.

I received the Helm's Deep Battle Set this evening featuring Aragorn, Theoden, Gimli, Legolas, and Haldir. Up to this point I'd been collecting Elves--Eldrond, Helm's Deep Legolas, and Arwen and Afaloth with wounded Frodo--and would have preferred to obtain Haldir singley but since this is the only way he's available I had no choice.

My wife said that the Haldir action figure is better looking than Craig Parker, the actor who played him, in real life! No offense to Craig, but the action figure does look pretty cool. We met Craig in Toronto at The Gathering of the Fellowship in December so we've seen him up close. Perhaps if he'd been wearing his elven wig...

Anyway, it's a very nice set. The Legolas figure that was included is similar but slightly different than the Helm's Deep Legolas I already owned so it's not an exact duplicate. The Theoden figure is exactly the same as the one my wife owns, though.

I have to confess to being at least partly responsible for getting my wife hooked on these figures. I bought her the Eowyn in armor figure for Christmas. She decided afterwards that she'd collect at least one of all the human and hobbit characters. At this point I think she's only lacking Sam and Faramir.

I'm really looking forward to the Coronation set which I've pre-ordered. I also have Gandalf the White and Galadriel on my wish list for when they become available at Amazon.com. If only Tom Bombadil had been in the movie! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

ToyBiz alert!

Just returned from lunch, had stopped by the TRU near my office. Lo and behold, found Morgul Lord, Faramir in Armour, Merry in Armour. (got the last ML and Merry). They must have sold out of KoTD before I got there. My guess is they put them out Monday or yesterday. They have 2 Faramirs left now.

Call your local TRU's and see if they're in stock!
Thanks for the tip, Nazgurl. I picked up the Merry and Faramir for my wife at the Toys 'R Us near my office. The detail on Merry's shield is particularly cool.

I wasn't impressed by the King of the Dead, so unless you're trying for a complete collection or something you're not missing much in my opinion.

I guess the figure I'd really like now is Gil-Galad. Is he going to be available solo or will you have to buy him as part of a set?

I like all of the figures I picked up and I got one of each. Not to be contrary but I am really impressed by the KOTD. I like the glow in the dark, the massive cloak, the helmet. The scuplt is right on and as it is the only glow in the dark so far, I can't imagine a collection without it. Merry is great. And yes the shield is the best, plus it looks fantastic slung over his shoulder. I didn't think I would like the ML that much as I am not really into bad guys, but his helm is perfect, the detail on the armor, especially on his arms is great. The mace is impressive. My favorite is probably Faramir though, simply because I like the character so much and love the tree of Gondor. Like the birds all over his armor and the trees. Well done Toybiz.

Re Gil-Gilad - his expected ship date is July 2004, which means he'll likely be widely available in August. (a few places sometimes get early shipments, but I've found ToyBiz's expected release dates really mean released from the manufacturer and on their way to distributors). This is the same wave that will have Elendil and Elrond in Robes. And Birthday Bilbo!

Where are you guys finding the RotK trilogy 2 figs? Every time I go out I come home empty handed. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0> My local Wal-marts had the same three figures hanging on the pegs for months now.

My Target's haven't restocked in awhile either...but if you need an army of Gollum's ten-thousand strong, it's the place to be. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Well off to TRU I go! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Well I'm back from yet another dissappointing day of toy hunting. Someone I know who works at TRU once told me that when it comes to ordering action-figures, they usually wait until they sell off most of their current inventory before ordering the new stuff. If this is true, I may just have to go in there and purchase about eighty "Aragorn King of Gondor" and "Super-posable Gollums" just so they'll get the new stuff in. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

Nice Lonely.

Let us know what you think about them. I like all of them. I espcially like having Merry next to Theoden and Pippin in armor. Faramir in armor is great also. Especially if you never mentioned to pick up the Ranger Faramir figure.

These figures are definitly some of the best in the line. The likenesses are near perfect, particulary Faramir.

Merry is also very well done, I am especially impressed by the detailing on his armor and shield. Very cool. He goes very nice with the Pippin in Armor.

I was really looking forward to seeing the King of the Dead up close (and in the dark). Now that I have I can say that he is probably the coolest ghost figure ever made. And unlike many glow-in-the-dark figures, KotD looks good even in the light.

And last but definitely not least...The Morgul Lord! Yeah, he's awesome! Nuff said. Go out and buy these NOW! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> At $5.99 a figure, you really can't go wrong in picking these up.

I agree Lonely. Great figures. For those of you not familiar with toybiz, you really owe it to yourself to get at least one figure and see the detail on it. I personally take all of my figures straight out of the packaging. Only way to really enjoy them and see the detail in my opinion. I will use the armored Faramir as an example. Ok how often does the Tree of Gondor show up on his armor? It is on the front of the breastplate. On the front and back of his helmet. On his shoulder armor, both sides. And some branches show up on his leg ankle guards. The 7 stars and birds of Gondor show up on his arm bracers and leg armor. We have technology to thank I guess. I hadn't been in toy stores for years before getting some of these figure. I found many lines of figures for under $10 to be very impressive. Anyhow love the toybiz line. And not just the 6inch, like the ROTO figures very much. ROTO Ringwraith is VERY impressive. And all of the horse and rider sets are worth it.

RoTK Wave 3 will be Shelob, Queen Arwen, Gollum w/Ring, a Ringwraith (I hope it's not yet ANOTHER repack of the original Ringwraith, Gimli, and a Urak Hai. Currently set for September Ship Date.

Not sure if "Queen Arwen" is the same Arwen figure that will be in the Coronation set or not. I assume it is a different figure based on the wedding; in some report last year it was said that the double wedding of Aragorn/Arwen and Eowyn/Faramir was filmed but dropped from the film - maybe to turn up on the EE?

Thanks Nazgurl! I had almost forgotten that they were doing Shelob! I cant wait to see that!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

And yeah I'm really hoping for a new sculpt for the Ringwraith too. But I guess there's really not much they can do with the Wraiths so I wont be surprised to see another repack. But I'm really hoping for at least some minor variation.

The rest of the figs sound great too! But September is so far away! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

I'm not sure whether this is news to all of you or not but it is news to me, last night while visiting Amazon.com I found a new item listed, although not yet released, Lord of the Rings Return of the King: Black Gates of Mordor Gift Pack featuring "Aragorn, Gandalf the White, Gimli, Legolas and an exclusive Mouth of Sauron figure on Horse."

So it appears that the Mouth of Sauron, like Haldir, will only be available in a pack of figures.
Yes Iarwain, I read about that over at the Green Dragon. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Mouth of Sauron action figure, and of course in the EE <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>. Those of us who caught a sneak peak of him in the RotK videogame know this figure is going to be awesome!!
