Just popped in to say I love the Finrod Dreaming pic. He's way too handsome for my good. *sighs and goes moony-eyed*

I usually only lurk in this forum and especially this thread ;) but had to come out and post a bit.

first of Jenny, you're doing an amazing job and i wish(and hope!) to ever come close to how you get your pictures to look like. may I ask just how you work? I am very curious. I myself only draw pencil drawings so far because i'm affraid to mess it up when using solid materials such as paint.but looking at your drawings makes me want to experience a bit more with colours

second a very very belated congrats on being pregnant, hope you are doing alright :)

I know this thread hasn't been posted in for some time now, but since I didn'twant to start a new thread just to ask a simple question, I figured this was the place to do it!

First of all, I only recently discovered this forum and thread, so I want to say that I love Silmarillion art the best of all Tolkien fanart, and Jenny: yours has to be the best I've ever seen! Though I've read it many times, seeing these pics (esp. the sons of Feanor) have piqued my interest again! But, I have one question:

Why is Maedhros always red-haired? I've seen someother artists give him red hair too, which always seemed strange to me given all the dark haired/grey eyed people that populate Tolkien. Is there something in HoME that I'm missing?

Maedhros is red-haired simply because Tolkien described him that way. ;) It says so somewhere in the Silmarillion, if I'm not mistaken, but right now, I can't find the quote. Anyone?

TarnAeluin and NienorNiniel, about Maedhros' hair colour is told in HoME 12, The Shibboleth of Fëanor, in the discussion of the mother-names of the seven brothers:

(...) he, and the youngest, inherited the rare red-brown hair of Nerdanel's kin. (...) had as an epessëgiven by his brothers and other kin Russandol "copper-top".

So, Maedhros, Amrod and Amras inherited their mother's red haircolour.

My first post in the Art section....

First all, to act like a parrot, well done to Jenny for her wonderful pictures. One of my top favourties has to be the one of Vaire the Weaver and the sad look on her face as she weaves about the battle. Not sure why but I really liked it!

I have admired Jenny's artwork for some time. I have one that I like the best cause it could easily have been my characters pic. Fields of Gold

It is great to see another real artist joining TORC!

Welcome Jenny!! Congratulations on the little one that is coming to you. I hope you are feeling much better very soon.

I really like Fingolfin. He looks so 'kind and noble' [Edguy quote].

Hope you're doing fine, Jenny. :)

Oh my!

First of all - my sincerest apologies for not checking this thread any more!

And thank you for all your kind words. ;)

I'm actually doing several Tolkien pics again - Silmarillion once again; one of Tulkas, and two of Maedhros. Apart from that, life is extremely busy. My little son Timo was born last October, he's seven months old now, and leaves me very little time for art - and what little he leaves me is going into the big projects most of the time, since I've finally started doing more prestigious work - covers, card art, and the like.

My new and improved Website will go online very soon as well. WITH a Tolkien section, yay :)

Cheers!

Jenny! Hi! :)

A picture of Tulkas? Now that's interesting! Can't wait to see it.

And Timo, huh? That's the name of the sexiest guy in the story I'm writing (named after a German ping-pong player)... :D:P

Welcome back, Jenny! 8) And, great to hear that you have some time for Sil paintings again - although a seven-month-old sure keeps his mother occupied...

Got to check your website as soon as it opens. :)

Congratulations on the birth of your son! I've seen the pictures of him you posted on deviantArt and he's absolutely adorable. One of the cutest little boys I've ever seen. Gorgeous. :)

Can't wait to see yor new Sil stuff and your website.

Sketch of Tulkas:

I'd be very glad for input, but as it's a commission, the commissioner's wishes go first. .)

I'm glad to hear you've got some more Maedhros pics on the way. I must confess I'm quite a fan of your portrayal of him. :) The sketch looks quite promising. I'm very happy to see he's wearing the copper circlet. My friend and I noticed that he does look a bit like Anakin in the latest Star Wars. That's not a bad thing, of course.

And Maedhros looks so sad in the Losgar sketch... :cry2:

Oooh... he's simply swoonable - just like an elf should be. I love the details in his hair, clothes and weapons - and the harp. And I agree with Nienor, the background is lovely.

Love Tulkas Jenny. Just like I pictured him too. Not enough people illustrate Tulkas and you've done a marvellous job.

Fingon is great too. Definitely has a determination about him. And the background is wonderful. It has a great moody feeling. Reminds me of Crows in a Wheat Field actually.

And Maedhros too! Wow you are on a rampage. :D Not that that could possibly be a bad thing. He looks great as well and as with Fingon and a lot of your other Sil pieces there is a real focus on character in the best sort of way.
