I'm very excited for this. I was very disappointed to see so much racist discussion in the comments section of the link. Tolkien would definitely not have approved.

Eh??? Amazon Prime is making a LotR's show? Ambitious to be sure. But I'd certainly be in line for checking it out.

Rose, I couldn't read too much of it. Tolkien would most certainly NOT agree.

Indications are that the series will be set in the Second Age, perhaps dealing with the forging of the Great Rings, the War of the Elves and Sauron, and the downfall of Númenor.

I guess I'll have to check out some of the previous work of these writers, producers, etc. I've actually never watched a single episode of Breaking Bad, though I've heard it's very good.

That seems a good place to start and would be information that was only referenced in the LotR's movie. Flesh it all out so to speak. Also they wouldn't have to worry for same part/actor sort of thing. Could be interesting.

I truly hope its good - the fact that Tom Shippey suggested a twenty-episode first season has a lot of people frustrated, thinking the episodes will be really short, but I don't understand why, exactly. Agents of SHIELD, for instance, had twenty-two episodes per season, for five seasons, and each episode was an hour long. Plenty of other shows have adopted the same format. A twenty-episode season doesn't automatically insure that the episodes themselves are only twenty-minutes long: most shows I've seen that have twenty-minute long episodes are only like six-episode or ten-episode seasons.

Yeah it will be able to tell a story in twenty. Better than a 8 ep Stranger Things format.

I'm going to be cautiously optomistic at this point in time.
