Coronavirus: LotR production in West Auckland shut down

Postby Otaku-sempai » Sun Mar 15, 2020 8:19 pm

The New Zealand Herald reports:
Production of Amazon's version of The Lord of the Rings has been suspended for two weeks - with staff told "there are no clear answers to when we will resume production".

A memorandum sent to about 800 cast and crew involved in the West Auckland shoot, sent shortly after 7pm this evening, blamed the Covid-19 coronavirus for the disruption.

Amazon could not immediately be reached for comment, but a watermarked copy of the announcement from North American-owned GSR Productions, forwarded to the Herald by someone close to the production, said:

"In an abundance of caution, UAP [Untitled Amazon Project] has suspended production for the next two (2) weeks commencing Monday, March 16."

Well, that bites. But I'm glad they're taking steps. What a mess.
"And it is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance else that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen."

There is something profound about standing AT sea level.
