The gates of Moria were made when there was peace between the two races (before the war with Sauron) in cooperation between the Elves and the Dwarves by their respective chief craftsmen, Celebrimbor and Narvi.

Tolkien's dwarves were secretive about their language; they only used it in among themselves. The only words that outsiders ever heard in Dwarvish was the battle-cry, "Khazad! Khazad ai-menu!"
The west doors of Moria were intended to be used for commerce with the Elves, so a Dwarvish password cound not be used.

The Dwarvish battle-cry I gave in my previous post should have been "Baruk Khazad! Khazad ai-menu!"
It means, " Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!"
