Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth Play Through

Postby Secretnimbus » Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:27 am

Hey all,

I'm a big fan of the Lord of the Rings and I came here to promote my very first game play video which is the Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth.

I'm hoping to upload a video every weekday (my internet at home is terrible whereas at work its amazing so won't be able to upload at weekends) and each video will be about one or two missions depending on length.

Hopefully in future I will be playing more games as well!!

Is it --Battle for Middleearth-- one or two?

I think it's one you got there. I have the sequel.

Both games have a slightly different interface.

Yeah its the first one for PC. I tried the second one for Xbox and didn't like it as much as this one!

I really want to play the Battle for Middle Earth games, but I hear getting them to run on Windows 7 is a bit of a pain :/ I know II has a 360 version but it's become really expensive and playing an RTS on a game pad from what I can tell (I haven't played much of the genre) would be an absolute nightmare anyway.

The first game works perfectly on my Windows 7 PC so far (check out the videos)!! Yeah playing with the gamepad is extremely frustrating plus the first game is just better in my personal opinion!!

I've just ordered the first game. Battle for MiddleEarth One and Rise of the Witch King ( Which was pricey at Seventy Five dollars.) on Ebay.

As I have said. I already have the sequel game, but I have not played the Xbox 360 version.

There is a strange graphics bug where vertical black bars flash on and off on the screen on the main menu screen and during play. I have tried turning down the resolution of shadows in options but it doesn't seem to work.

Really wish they would re-release the games on Steam tailored to run better on modern hardware, I would buy them in an instant if they did but the only LOTR games on Steam as of now are the Online MMO, Lego LOTR and War in the North from what I can recall.

I haven't even got then yet due to how pricey they've become, and I'm worried that I would spend so much £££'s on then only for them to then not work. :/

Since you can't buy then new in any way shape or form now I may cave in to the urge to pirate them, and if they work/I like them enough I'll add physical copies to my collection further down the line.

Ah thought it was the first game you were having problems with!! Yeah they both seem to be extremely valuable at the moment I sold the 2nd game for Xbox and got £15 for it which was 3 times as much as any of the other games I wanted to get rid of!!

They should work with Windows Seven. Aside from those graphical glitches. Windows Eight I'm not so sure about. Windows Seven is what I got Battle For Middle Earth Two running on.

I received my copy of Lord of the Rings: Battle For Middle Earth: Number One in the mail today and I installed it played it for a while thinking that it more limited in that you can only place a certain amount and type of building in and around your Fortress. Gandalf comes into the game at rank five when playing a skirmish map and in Battle for Middleearth two you get more powers and heros. Though you don't get the hobbits.

It's still a good game to add to my collection however.

On the subject of what O/S this game will play on, I've installed the same BFME 1 disc on XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and it worked fine on all of them. It even worked on Windows Vista!

I'm guessing that the problems people have reported above are due to graphics cards drivers or the graphics cards themselves not being up to the job. (FYI, I've been working in IT and software development since 1988 so I'm not just talking out of my backside here :) )

How did Battle for Middle Earth II work though, assuming you tried that game?

Fair enough. I would just buy copies of both and try my luck at running them on my gaming rig, but again they're far too procey to just buy with only a faint chance of them being playable for me.

Makes me wish a digital release was available to make the physical copies worth less, i.e more affordable, as was the case with Tales of Vesperia on the 360. (Not a fan of the Tales Of series as such, I only own Abyss on the 3DS but a friend has told me about this quite extensivley)

All three games including -Rise of the Witch King- work on my rig okay, but for a few graphical glitches.

Incidently, -Rise of the Witch King- is abit silly, with it's -Shade of the Wolf-, but still worth playing. For true fans only.

If you plan on buying the games be prepared to fork out about eighty or so dollars for them.
