The One Ring RPG Official Newsletter #2 has been released with more news about the second edition of the game:
This time we’re focusing on Eriador for the core publication, the region that for many readers lies at the heart of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. To constitute an ideal ‘second chapter’ to the first edition of TOR, we’re also advancing the default date, setting the game at about the year 2960.

What does this mean, in practical terms? It means that the new core volume for The One Ring will contain information focusing on Eriador and surrounding lands, and will feature six Heroic Cultures, representing the most common heroic types that can be encountered roaming the lone lands of old Arnor.

First edition had local folks like Silvan Elves, Dwarves, Beornings, Woodmen and Bardings, plus the occasional visiting Hobbits—the new edition will mirror that structure, featuring Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Bree-landers, Rangers and far-travelling Bardings, probably coming to Eriador in the company of Dwarves.

The starter set will have a focus on the Shire:
And to kickstart this new edition we will visit a place in Eriador that we didn’t cover before: the starter set for The One Ring will detail the Shire, the home of Hobbits, with a dedicated sourcebook and adventures penned by our own Master Hobbit, James Michael Spahn. The author of several pieces for the previous edition of the game, James is an accomplished writer and designer—you need only to check out his The Hero’s Journey to know that he’s the right man for the job.
