Final Fantasy 8

So this is what hapens when I stay off a site for a month or two(okay 4)!They add a new topic!Well since I'm here,how many people out there love FF8?If you do what's the best part about it?story line?characters?battles?indulge me!

I liked FF8.<BR><BR>I thought the whole GF system was pretty cool.

FF8 was not that fun, but it wasn't as terrible as a lot of people say it was... Just didn't meet my expectations from previous Square games, and if you want a REALLY disappointing RPG from Square, play Mystic Quest for Super Nintendo, that's all I have to say <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

*Clutches head at people mentioning liking FF8* I'm sorry, I've been playing that series since the very beginning on the original Nintendo. Final Fantasy 1 is great. I still haven't played 2 or 3 on NES...not that much into emulation. 4 for SNES (2 American) is also a great game, but not quite IMHO. 5 was fantastic. The job scheme, the destruction of the crystals that had been pivitol in every game to that point, the music....oh, it was great, even if not released in America till Anthologies. But then came 6 (3 American). In my opinion, no game has ever come close to 6. Characters, story, differentiation without getting away from the character classes too far, music, development, everything was just right, and it was great graphics for SNES. Then there was a long wait, and 7 came out. It is a very good story, but my main complaint was that there was little difference in ability between characters, aside from limit breaks. Then came 8. No offense to all who like it, but 8 was bad. Yes I beat it, and the only thing I really liked was the ending sequence. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Then came 9, which the gaming world (and Square) considered an apology for 9. Went back to the good old character classes, and well, I liked it a lot. I won't indulge on each unless someone asks me to.<BR><BR>Quiz: What's the only fact that supports that every one of these games is on the same world just at a different time? (I myself support this theory)

Neither moogles or chocobos were in the first few, and garland being in both is true, but that's just first and last (for now). Cid appears in every one (but the first, but the characters have no set names, so that's allowable). But I'm looking for something else. Clue: Think along the lines of the crystals.

What, because there are some sort of crystal-like things in all of them? There aren't any in VI...or VIII either. I'm stumped; tell me.

Okay, you have to have played all (or near all) for this to make sense, and it does stretch things a bit, so I'm ready to be flamed. <BR><BR>In the first Final Fantasy, you need to revitalize the 4 crystals. The next three are pertaining to protecting them in some way (if my memory is right....It's been a whlie on 4) but in 5, those crystals are destroyed, adn the magic spreads across the whole planet. This leads to large amounts of people being able to use magic instead of a small group. (War of the Magi, Mako energy). In 7, humans started to cause this energy to cluster once more with the Mako reactors, which were destroyed and the energy was once more put back into Gaia, but instead of spread evenly, was focused at certain points, which led to a decline in the number of 'magic users.' (Sorceresses) Those who couldn't were able to gain the energy from the places where the focused energy came near the surface of Gaia (Juction points). Finally, in 9, the energy had become concentrated enough that the crystals were reformed, and we were back at square one.<BR><BR>There ya have it, a very twisted, but plausible argument that they all take place in the same world.

i can't help but argue against the chronology of the games since i doubt that ff9 is from an era after ff8 or ff7, for that matter. and how would fftactics fit in the whole picture? there should be a link since Cloud and Aeris were there too ...

I'm still playing Tactics, but the fact is if you go that way, then the Game Boy ones should be included too, and that would just screw ANY attempt at connection them, even the Cid one. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><BR><BR>As for the technology one, You can always look at it this way. how do the gaps fill between the games? Romans were more advanced than the Dark Ages, which happened after...

You are quite right, revitalizing the crystals in one, then you use 8 crystals, 4 light and 4 dark to get access to the tower, and then you use the "crystal" at the end to cause Zeromus to reveal himself, in 3 the shattering, 7 the reactors and all, 9 the crystal at the end, heh, I was gonna say that but I was too late! I was also thinking of the fact that the fiends from ff1 were brought back out of "the memories of the planet and the characters" in ff9, Lich, Kraken, Tiamat, and Kary(called Maliris in ff9 but with similar though enhanced appearance).

Yeah, but I also have to say that Garland was always an underrated character in 1. I'm glad he finally got something of a spotlight in 9. Heck, he's the first boss EVER in Final Fantasy <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Well, I remembered a Sol there, but I didn't know if it was you or not. I used to post there on occasion as Aragorn, but mostly I spent time in the chatroom. I never really got into Wotmania though. I sent in my semi-famous "Moridin is Rand" theory, but I don't know if it ever got posted in that theory section.<BR><BR>And the name Moonhair does seem relatively familiar, at most. I can't say I really knew any of the people at the board as well as the people in the chatroom. It was odd. Most of the people in the chatroom rarely posted, and the heavy posters rarely went in the chatroom.

I am §ol <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> There's a few other people from wotism I know, but I stopped thinking of them separately from the other wotmaniacs. I think that it did get posted on the Theory board, but I doubt that it's supported very well <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Yes, people can vote on them now (actually the site has come a long way since even I joined......over a year ago). At any rate, I'm surprised to find a second person who knows what those are. *Laughs* Most wotmaniacs sadly don't know what quality liturature is. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I always thought FF6 had the best story, but FF7 was the best overall. Sure the characters' abilities were similar, but their personalities were incredibly unique. <BR><BR>Sol, perhaps you could answer this question for me. Were the Centra ruins in FF8 supposed to have anything to do with the Cetra from FF7?

FF8 was ok. They really tried to do more to focus on the main characters while the background groups stories suffered. I think the battle system was good, although it became really easy once you aquired the right GF's and the right magic for your attacks. Out of the playstation 1 Final Fantasy games its my least favorite, but if your a fan none of what I said matters lol.
