Hmm i agree about the Halberd part Aglanor, but not really about the spear part.

As you know, some creatures have resistance against certain types of weapons, or are less influenced by them, like skeletons against crushing, and piercing doesnt do much against them.

That is why i like to have a wild variety of weapons, ofcourse slashing, arrows as piercing, warhammers as blunt and crushing and closecombat spears as piercing. Quarterstaffs i absolutly love, in the party of me and Drieske right now we have two, and i know there are even better around<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

well I dunno but somwhow dual classing doesn't speak for me ... although I might try once a warrior cleric ( like amoen ) that might work out good ...

ok I'm in the middle of making a world for NWN game ... just to let you know I had included your nicks in the game .... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> ( if you don't mind of because , if you do then I take them out ) ...

as to the bg 1 and bg 2 weapons I still think that swords are the best ... ( mostly used ) of course some flails, staffs and other weapons are used as well but I think that the swords actually have the best bonuses ...

Ya I agree about swords being the best hand to hand weapons in both games...I mean there are exceptions (crom faeyr, blah blah blah...) but overall swords are the most plentiful and so in turn there are a a larger number of powerful swords. However, in bg1 I am always going to say that a good bow is the best weapon overall...seriously, long range is just deadly in that game.

I so much agree, because in BG2, the number of Mages are so much higher and mind flayers or undead, while in BG1 you are most focussed on creatures like spiders, hobgoblins, some skeletons.

THis time i chosed for a company without a bow, other than yoshimo, and it works way better i noticed, hack and slash<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

It's true, in BG I'm mostly using the bows and slings, and in close combat the swords <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>, but in BG2 I'm "not allowed" to touch my bow <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0>

hehehe <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Missile weapons have always been the most efficient way of laying waste on your enemies. In BG1, many battles were solved before the critters could even close in on melee range. Special arrows rule. Arrows of detonation have always been my favourites. I feel like John Rambo when shooting those things and Rambo is cool.

Agreed. And I was quite in love with arrows of detonation, but in BG2 I got addicted to arrows of dispelling as well, though unfortunately it didn't dispel the more powerful spells...

Ya, those types of arrows made the final confrontation with Sarevok way too easy in my opinion...but when it came to playing BG2, both of the characters I use as archers disappear. Imoen gets taken and Kivan is no where to be seen. Yoshimo fills in well, but it just seems that arrows aren't nearly as effective in the second game, especially the more you progress.

Never used any of those arrows<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> For dispelling i had my mage and detonation my wands and other nifty stuff, maybe i should try it<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Well we just did the Heardalis quest on the outer plane, dang that one is not TOO easy, and we killed another leech<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Going good<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Hey guys.

Well, I DID break out of my human fighter norm and opted for a half-elf swashbuckler. He's got all the skills of a theif (minus backstab) and near-fighter combat skills!

I've got a few questions, however, about certain aspects of the game.

As a thief, my stronghold is a thieve's guild. I just finished Renal Bloodscalp's (sp?) bidding and took out Maer'valis (sp?) and have been given the thief guild as my own. However, when that happend, Keldorn started spouting off his protest and said he wouldn't tolerate anything he deemed to be evil. My question is, if I go to claim the guild -- will Keldorn leave??? I certainly hope not since he's one of my more stronger party members (the turn undead ability is nice too).

And also, how do I start up some of the quests with the Harpers? Do I just walk into the place (the building in the Docks District) or what?

Thanks guys!

Oh, btw -- what party members did you use throughout the game (i.e. ones you kept and used until the end)

I've got Myself (Arion is the character's name <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>), Keldorn, Minsc, Jaheira, Aerie, and Valygar. Pretty stong party if I do say so. I'd like to use Viconia or Edwin, but their evil allignments would clash with either my reputation or my other characters' allignments.

Very interesting indeed Shadowjack, i will make a mail i think<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Thank you<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Arion, i am not 100% sure but i think Keldron will leave, to forecome that, accept the guild with Keldorn out of your party for a while, and accept him back later, it might work.

To start the harpers quest indeed go in and do the xzar quest , from that moment, when you have jaheira quest after quest will follow<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

ShadowJack: Sounds interesting indeed. I just don't know anything about scripting...

Arion: That swashbuckler sounds nice! I never tried many variety of classes. I always got stuck with the barbarian. I just liked the class so much.

I don't think Keldorn will leave immediately. He will moan about it, but if he will really leave, I'm uncertain. The idea Maeg gives works most of the times.

The members I used till the end:
Me - half-orc barbarian
Keldorn
Minsc
Jan Jansen
Imoen
Viconia

In Throne of Bhaal I switched Minsc for someone else. You'll know who in the first 5 minutes of the game...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Thanks guys <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>.

Oh, and I made a mistake -- Keldorn doesn't have the Turn Undead ability -- got him confused with Anomen. For now, anyway, I'm at Spellhold and it'll be a while before I make it back to Athkatla.

Where's this Xzar character? I tried walking directly into the building but it's locked and the guard outside tells me to move on. Did I miss something? Looking at a Walkthrough online, I think I might have made a mistake, though.

Earlier in the game when I went to the D'Arnise Hold and was way-layd (sp?) by enemies, I didn't fight and just walked off the screen instead. I think they were the ones who had the body of this one guy who I was supposed to carry back to the Docks District somewhere! Unfortunately, since I didn't fight them -- there's no way to get back to the in-between area and find they guy's body.

Perhaps there's a cheat I can do to get his body which I could then use to jump-start the Harper Quests??? (although, I oftentimes don't really like cheating -- but in this case, it might be necessary). Any suggestions?

Arion
I havn`t played it.. so can`t be of help there. But if you do need to cheat the best way is to use Gatekeeper for Baldur`s gate 1. Or Shadowkeeper for Baldur`s gate 2.

Here is the website you can get them at:
Baldur`s Gate cheat programs

They are saved game editors. You can change or add any attributes, add any items to your inventory..weapons,armour,"Dead Body`s" lol,add spells and levels to your characters... pretty much anything you want.

I will admit to using Dalekeeper, when I played Icewind Dale. My computer had a brain fart, and my saved game got messed up. Used it to get my characters back to where they had been,so that I didn`t have to start over from scratch.

Arion- near the very beginning of the game, I think the first time you leave the city to go anywhere, you are waylaid by a group of thugs who are circled around another character who is lying on the ground. If you walked away from this one, then there is no way that you can get the Xzar quest to start. You need that guy who was lying on the ground to initiate anything with the Harpers, so...unless you have a save before then, your kinda screwed! Sorry, happened to me once too.

Seriously, of course he could use the console if he wanted to, but come on...this is supposed to be a role playing game. How is it role playing when you fix a minor screw up by cheating? Oh well, to each his own I guess....

Didn't mean to start up any sort of "cheating" controversy, guys. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I suppose it's more of a bug with the game, then. When I was waylaid, they didn't even say anything special and so I assumed it was just normal bandits. I was in a hurry to get to D'Arnise and so instead of fighting the goons I just fled.

Odd that the game designers would have THAT as the only starting point for all of the Harper Quests. Like I said, I've played the game before and remember several storylines involving the Harpers -- I think at some point Jaheira leaves for a bit, gets a pin of some sort. . . I'll have to look into this "cheating" strategy to merely jumpstart all of this.

Currently, I'm back in Athkatla -- about to go kill Bodhi (again). Has anyone done the expansion, Throne of Bhaal? How is it?

Yeah, TOB is a lot of fun...you can get so powerful that its ridiculous...but there are some cool new areas, and a lot of new monsters. Plus they do a pretty good job of filling in the blanks concerning your characters past. Pretty interesting...
