All you old folkies out there: she was a treasure. Our local public radio station had tributes to her two nights in a row.

This news was very sad. I grew up listening to "hippie" folk music and was very familier with songs of Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Mary Travers was unique. From her looks to her voice, to her stage presence.
I have been a fan of "Peter, Paul and Mary" since. . . erm. . . 40 + years ago. She will "live" forever in video and CDs. We are fortunate.

I recently saw some old clips from the TV show "Hootenany." The Rooftop singers and another group of two men and a woman singing in the middle made Mary Travers' contribution all the clearer. She was not just a "pretty girl singer" as those others were. She had a strong character, distinctive voice and really set "P,P & M" apart.
