Davy Jones, Rest In Peace

66 years old, heart attack.

Some have always said that the Monkee's were America's answer to the Beatles. To me there was no comparison, but that didn't stop me from seeing every one of their TV episodes back in the day.

I would see that Davy Jones would pop up here and there from time to time, but after the group split, none of them really grew to any national fame level that I know of.

Rest in peace Davy Jones. Thank you for the laughs and the music.

You were our "Daydream Believer".

They were created to ride the coat tails of the Beatles.
To me there was no comparison, but I loved the show all the same.

Davy was a great talent.
Too bad he got stuck in the tv trap.
All the Monkees had talent, they were never allowed to show it.

Lots of happy memories with Davy.

May his way home be swift.
And may he find his peace there.

R.I.P. Davy.

Davy was my first celebrity crush. :) When I was in about the fifth grade one of the network stations started rerunning the episodes and I fell in love. Found out shortly after that my cousin was undergoing the same experience. We loved the Golden Girls and the Monkees. :)

Davy was the one with the acting experience, having worked on stage in London for years before the Monkees. Then they had their resurgence in the 80s and again fairly recently. I saw him live at DelGrosso's Park near Altoona, PA a few years ago and it was so much fun!

He will be missed greatly. I saw on Facebook that tributes are even coming in from the Beatles and Rolling Stones.

On an added note, Walter Koening said his character, Chekov, was brought onto Star Trek in the second season because of Davy Jones' popularity. :)

I too will miss Davy Jones. I liked watching the Monkees and listened to them a lot.

Goodbye, Davy, We'll miss you.

They're having a public memorial later this week. I wish I could go. :(

It was so much fun watching the Monkees. I still have one of their albums (yeah, an album  ) All my friends and I had crushes on them but I liked Davy best.

I really enjoyed the Monkees. And now that my kids are getting into music (they're 8 now), they want to listen to the stuff I listed too as a kid. So they're going through all my Beatles, Monkees, Huey Lewis...et al. cds. Still too young for the Doors, though:)

It's a shame that that the Monkees didn't get along better toward the end. Like the Beatles, I suppose, they learned the hard way that its too late to bury the hatchet after somebody has passed on. Still, it's nice to see Mike Nesmith talking nicely about his Monkee days.

Actually, they're currently touring. I understood they always got along more or less, just realized that the end had come and didn't try to hang on to it.

i think that they've been off then on...friendshipwise. Just like anybody else, I suppose.

For a while, Mike was saying that being a Monkee was the "low part" of his life. And Davey, after their tour in the 1990s?, said that he'd never work with the other Monkees again because they were "crooks."

But they seemed to mend their relationships recently. Davey, Mickey, and Peter were schedule to tour earlier this year, but things fell through. Apparently there was some arguing about something. Then Davey died and they've all gotten together again. Isn't that the way of things? All the arguments of old are forgotten one somebody passes away. Sad.

I had tickets to go see Davey, Mickey, and Peter back in the 1990s. But I never went because my date...now wonderful wife...wasn't too keen about going. Shame. :(
