I'd love to hear some favorite holiday songs here. What is yours? Two come to mind at the moment for me.

Bumping from last year!

I especially love the choral renditions of carols. I have a bunch of LPs of the Robert Shaw Chorale, the Roger Wagner Chorale, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and (less satisfactory on the whole) the Harry Simeone Chorale. I'd love to get them on CD, but at least with the Shaw stuff, I know they re-did the albums but with the songs not in the same order as on the LP (I only know this from hearing cuts on the classical radio stations), so I don't know if they're abridged or what.

I've always had a soft spot, though, for Nat King Cole's Christmas Song (chestnuts roasting etc.) as far as popular ones go. But I love the religious ones; Gesu Bambino is one of my favorites too.

I love the old stuff, orchestras, choirs, and the likes of Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole and others. Not a big fan of much of the new stuff. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is about the only current one I like.

I have a lot of favorite songs but my favorite version is The Christmas Song done by the Johnny Douglas Orchestra The song is at 33:12

Adeste Fidelis...actually sung in Latin.

Long years ago,
yes, long,
when thinking of carols well-sung
I think of this
with stone-bursting
pummeling organ,
impossibly stratospheric
cherubic descants,
and echoes
upon echoes
rolling across pews
swirling up into heaven-scraping
ceiling vaults.
One song,
and heaven
touched earth.
The autumn I know and love in Calgary.

I like the song On Christmas Day by Dido although it hardly ever gets any airtime.

I don't think I heard it on the radio at all last year.
