Not a really "misheard" lyric... but I like to sing "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers saying instead "Gordon Brown". <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
(only Brits will get this one, I'm afraid)

Just remembered another one...

A few years ago, a song called "So the Story Goes" was played a lot on the local radio stations. The singer was Danish, and her pronunciation of some words was sort of "soft" so, at first I heard the chorus as "I saw a starry ghost". <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

My most shameful mis-understanding came from being subjected to Paul McCartney's "Tug of War" as a child... I could have sworn it was "Tartan wall".

<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0>

A couple of weeks ago I listened to U2's With Or Without You while being really hungry. There's a line "Sleight of hand and a twist of fate" and I heard "Slice of ham..." instead

My husband's cousins as children have the all-time winning Misheard Lyric award around here. His family told me this over the holidays, and Christmas just isn't the same.

When Allison was little she had asked who Round John Virgin was in SILENT NIGHT. And her even littler sister, Jody, wanted to play the part of "Lo" in the church play. You know, "Lo"--the Angel of the Lord.

<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

The name of the site comes from the famous Hendrix lyric in Purple Haze "excuse me while I kiss the sky". But someone who saw some of Jimi's early performances wrote into the site to say it wasn't exactly a misheard line:
While performing "Purple Haze", for six performances in a row, Hendrix, standing to the left of the stage, clearly pointed directly at Noel Redding standing to the right, and they both laughed and made a "thing" out of it, each time the phrase came up, "...scuse me while I kiss this guy." This was not a mistake or a "misheard lyric". The two of them were clearly "goofing" on and with the crowd and having a great time! Hendrix even walked over to Redding during one or two of these performances, and mimed kissing him!

I also saw Hendrix perform this song twice in 1968, at the "Washington Hilton", in D.C., and the same on-stage gestures and pointing occured. Since seeing these performances live, going back and carefully listening to the original recording, I've always believed that he intentionally slurred his diction on the studio take, to achieve the same effect -- just to "goof" on the audience.

Well the one that scarred me for life in high school was when I was in the hallway singing Foriegner's "...virgin, virgin..." only to be informed that it was actually "...urgent, urgent..." More lately an ex-girlfriend and her sister and sister's husband got a kick out of my version of the Foo Fighter's "Don't wanna be your monkey-man," rather than monkey wrench.

The best friend of a friend story I heard was a guy asking a bar band to play Slow Walking Walter, you know that really popular song, everybody knows it, it goes "slooow walkin' Walter, fire engine guy..." The band finally got the message and played Deep Purple's "smoke on the water, fire in the sky,"
