I think "Sunday,Bloody Sunday" the one of their best.Powerful song and lyrics and sadly so actual and true even today.

I'm such a huge U2 it's even written on some of my clothes! hahaaha I just love them! and not because they're 4 cuties singing in a band ...no way.......it's because of the type of music they do!!!! it's so obvious that they where not put together and that all they say is real....I could talk 4 ever about them ....how i once wrote an essay on Bono when asked to write about a person that has inspired me.....so i guess ill just say my fave songs.....
I agree with "sunday bloody sunday"......."how long how long must we sing this song?"......

"pride in the name of love", "With or without you" (the greatest love song ever), "One" (it became even more special to me after 9/11), "stay", and some good ones from the new album...."City of blinding lights", "sometimes you can't make it on your own" and of course if you want a feel good song it has to be Vertigo......"uno, dos, tres, catorce!"

I recently bought a DVD called U2 "go home" "Live at Slane Castle" if you havent seen it i suggest y'all check it out!
well i might come back and see if anyone else posts and maybe talk a little more about the greatest band on Earth!

Hmm, I'm listening to them right now. ;) I'm a big fan of theirs.

I think one of my favorite newer songs is Discotheque, but I also like Electrical Storm.

Discotheque

You can reach
But you can't grab it
You can hold it, control it
No, you can't bag it

You can push
But you can't direct it
Circulate, regulate, oh no
You cannot connect it

You know you're chewing bubblegum
You know what that is
But you still want some
You just can't get enough
Of that lovie dovie stuff

You get confused
But you know it
Yeah, you hurt for it, work for it, love
You don't always show it

Let's go
Let's go
Let's go
Discotheque

Let's go
Let's go
Discotheque

You're looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
You want to be the song
Be the song that you hear in your head

Love...Love...
Love...Love...
Love...

It's not a trick
'Cause you can't learn it
It's the way you don't pay, that's okay
'Cause you can't earn it

You know you're chewing bubblegum
You know what that is
But you still want some
You just can't get enough
Of that lovie dovie stuff

Let's go
Let's go
Discotheque

Go go
Go go
Discotheque

You're looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
You want to be the song
Be the song that you hear in your head

Love...
(You want heaven in your heart)
(Heaven in your heart)
(The sun, the moon, and the stars)

But you take what you can get
'Cause it's all that you can find
But you know there's something more
Tonight, tonight, tonight

Ha...ha...
Ha...ha...
Ha...ha...
Ha...

(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque
(I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque
(I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque
(I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque
(I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque

Electrical Storm

The sea is swells like a sore head
and the night it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
and the day it is breaking

On rainy days we go swimming out
on rainy days, swimming in the sound
On rainy days we go swimming out

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
if the sky can crack
there must be some way back
for love and only love

Car alarm and back to sleep
you kept awake dreaming some else's dream
coffee is cold, but it will get you through
compromise, there's nothing new to you
let's see colours that have never been seen
let's go to places no one else has been

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
if the sky can crack
there must be some way back
to love and only love

Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Baby don't cry

It's hot as hell, honey in this room
sure hope the weather will break soon
the air is heavy, heavy as a truck
hope the rain will wash away our bad luck

heeeey... heeeey.....

If the sky can crack, there must be some way back
for love and only love

Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm

Baby don't cry
Baby don't cry
Baby don't cry
Baby don't cry

Of course, I love all of their older songs, my favorites being Where the Streets Have No Name and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name

I want to feel sunlight on my face
I see the dust cloud disappear
Without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name

Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We're still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It's all I can do

The city's aflood
And our love turns to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust
I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name

Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We're still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It's all I can do
Our love turns to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, and I see love
See our love turn to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, when I go there
I go there with you
It's all I can do

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
I have climbed highest mountain
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds and you
Loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

:D You know, it's too hard to try to pick my favorites. I like almost all of them!

I think they've been a bit weak in recent years, but their new album is FANTASTIC.

Just listening to it now.

As for my favourites...well my band does a cover of "One" so I have to choose that :)

Ohh their are so many. "And battle has just begun , there's many lost, tell me who has won.
""Well you lied to me....... because I asked you too."
"We fought for justice and not for gain. But the Magistrate sent me away."

More later but I love U2 and it is good to see others also do. :)

So it's good? I haven't bought it yet, but I was planning to tomorrow night. Should I?

Anyone else have an opinion?

I think 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' contains some of the best work they've ever done. :D

U2 have been my favorite band for quite a while, but I'm actually not very fond of how to dismantle an atomic bomb. I just don't think they're doing anything that outstanding or original, but that's just me. Basiclly most of the songs just do absolutely nothing for me, with the notable exceptions of "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" and "Love and peace or else." After much trying to "get into it", I've just concluded that for me, its no Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, or Unforgettable Fire. :(

Now Achtung baby... swooooonnnnn. Could be the most brilliant, gorgeous, moving album I've ever heard, even after having played it a thousand times. :D

Oh, and if you ever have a chance to see them live, take it. Best show I've ever seen. :)

Interesting, I think that How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb reaches back to the style of Joshua Tree and their older stuff, with a brilliant twist of new stuff.

My favorite song off the new album is probably Miracle Drug, that is a GREAT song.

Well, I bought it, and I've only gotten to listen to bits and pieces of it; I haven't had a chance to actually listen to the lyrics yet, but I love the music! So, yes, I'm enjoying it, and I think I'm going to like it very well. :) Yay!!!

I'll keep you all updated.

I've only recently got into U2 but I do really love them. I've got their new album and I've been bugging everyone I know who has any of their other albums to lend them to me for a while. I love 'Sometimes you can't make it on your own' especially, but apart from that I can't really choose.

Miracle Drug is my favourite off the "new" album...

Freedom has a scent
like the top of a new born baby's head

The songs are in your eyes
I see it when you smile.
I've had enough I'm not giving up
On a miracle drug...

This was the highlight of the show in june...

Sal

If you like the new album I'd recommend The Joshua tree, the Unforgettable fire, Boy, October and Achtung Baby and I guarantee you'll hear little snatches that will link directly to this new album (check out stories for boys on boy for the neat harmaonics on Vertigo for example or even better than the real thing for the neat slide type guitar break like Miracle drug)

I am, and have always been the biggest U2 fan that I know. I have seen them live over 30 times going back to the War Tour, including once in Dublin. Their shows have always been an almost religious experience for me. I had never seen a bad one, until May of 2005. I don't know what was wrong, but Bono sounded horrible. I thought he was sick. It was so bad I wished that they had cancelled. I found myself standing there with my hands in my pockets praying for it to be over. When I got home that night I tried to post a fan review of the show on their website. But because it was negative, it never got posted. The site admins never came out and said it, but I know that is why. I got an excuse about there only being so much room per show for fan reviews. Meanwhile, I had to read review after review of "it was the greatest show ever, blah, blah, blah..." What a load of crap! The tribute band I saw in the bar across the street before the show was better! Maybe if you had never been to a U2 show, it was the greatest ever. But I have been to too many fantastic shows to accept that as a great show. My biggest dissapointment was the fact that my review wasn't posted. I wonder what Bono and the boys would think about their own website censoring their fan's thoughts?

Having said all that, I saw them again in October and it was the usual awesome spectacle! And I will be seeing them again this Sunday night. I can't wait!

BTW, my favorite song is:

Running to Stand Still

And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was lyin' still.
Said I gotta do something
About where we're goin'.

Step on a fast train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night.
Singing ah, ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day.

Sweet the sin, bitter the taste in my mouth.
I see seven towers, but I only see one way out.
You gotta cry without weeping, talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice.
You know I took the poison, from the poison stream
Then I floated out of here, singing
Ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day.

She walks through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain.
In through a doorway
She brings me white golden pearls
Stolen from the sea.

She is ragin'
She is ragin'
And the storm blows up in her eyes.
She will suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand still.

I'll be seeing them in Berlin on the 18th of July. :D
