One can be a NYT best selling author and still be a terrible writer. :) It's more a popularity gauge than anything else.

that being said, I think we can agree that what might be a great book for one person might be a terrible book for another. :D

Terry Brooks really is much better once you get past the first book - it is depressingly ripoff of LOTR. But some of his other stuff isn't horrible. :)
