Went to my son's Awards/Christmas gathering for Tea Kwon Do last night.
The food was good. Love pot lucks.
Where as I didn't know the people other than my son,
I will say they were nice for the most part,
But egads where do people get off thinking they can sing?

Yep, they had Kareoke (or however you spell that)
And even my son tore my ears to shreds.
Then the little kids got a hold of the mics.
And after about 15 minutes of Jingle Bells sung in voices only a mother could love
They finally got the mics away from them and gave them to a couple of teens.
Silent Night will never be the same.
The slide of the last note of "Sleep in Heavenly peace"
Nearly broke the glass in the studio.

People, there is a reason the crew at the bar call it "Croakie" ok?

We had snow on Friday, and were forecast heavy snow today, but at the last minute, the forecast changed, and we've just had a few flakes. The surrounding hills look gorgeous though, as it's not go above freezing this weekend.

We went out to the local Christmas market this afternoon. It was freezing and very busy. They had some interesting stuff for sale (the "Transylvanian glasswork" in particular), but we didn't stop as we were trying to get into a pub for lunch. Well, we found a seat in a pub but the menu was very limited and the wait for food was an hour, so we went back out to the market to get German sausages in a bun (well, I had a crepe with Nutella and bananas :D ). The wait was much less and the food tasty!

I never could get into the Karaoke thing. Of course, I already know I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. :D

So we got about 1 inch of snow, yesterday it mostly melted, so now there will be mud. Yay. :P

Sounds like you had a nice day, heliona. :D A nice lunch always helps. 8)

Got cards from Tooks and Tygarya today. Thanks guys. :D

All of mine have been mailed out, but the people outside the US may not get theirs until New Years.

I had to update Tyg's address myself. Hopefully I have the right address for everyone else.

Oh, and Calma, thanks for your help with that.

Re: The TVM - It's December!

Postby IrisBrandybuck » Fri Dec 15, 2017 8:21 am

I'm about to walk out to my mailbox with a stack of cards. I'm going to do email for my international friends this year. I haven't been able to get anything more in work other than the very scant part time stuff for GantDaily.com, and Rob has had a lot of short pays recently thanks to many, many doctor appointments. I even applied for a job with the post office that the post master really wanted me for...and they didn't even give her my name for the interview list!!! :x :(

But I saw something under CR's name and realized I'd forgotten to tell y'all this story:

When bald eagles started making a big come back in Pennsylvania, a nesting pair chose Curwensville Lake as their home. I drive past that lake a couple times a week, sometimes more often, because our church is just across the river. Or, we have friends that live in Curwensvile, or it's the safer way to Clearfield...etc. Ever since the pair started nesting there...about 10 years ago, people would talk about seeing them. They'd fly above the lake or down the river. I never got to see them. I'd look out over the lake driving by, I'd scan the sky when we were down in the recreation area...I'd watch the river. No dice.

I've been feeling pretty down recently. So far down I've had trouble praying about it. And Christmastime only makes me worse.

So last week we're coming home from church and since Rob was driving, I was staring out at the dam and the lake and not even thinking of eagles when I saw something weird, two really big birds circling near the road, but below, towards the lake, so I'm looking at them from above. And one just looked really strange. Suddenly it hit me, it was the nesting pair of Bald Eagles! And if that weren't enough, one of their juveniles was with them! :D I yelled for Rob to slow down so we could watch them...it was incredible. It made my day and a good portion of my week besides. :D

Okay, forward! To the mailbox!

Great story about the Eagles Iris. That was terrific you finally got to see them.

Too bad about the post office job. Maybe you could contact the post master directly?

I went on an interview a few weeks ago. It would have been a great job, probably with great pay an benefits, but......

It was a 45 minute drive. And that was with clear weather, good roads and light traffic.

I don't even want to think about what it would be like now, especially during so-called rush hour.

Yes, Virginia ...
Editorial of The New York Sun | December 21, 2012

Dear Editor—

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, "If you see it in The Sun, it's so." Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia O'Hanlon
115 West Ninety Fifth Street

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence.

We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

I think I heard the eagles yell "Tell CR we said Hi!" ;)

So, you're all invited to an eagle watching party at the lake next summer. We'll rent the cabins for a few days and hang out on the beach. ;)

LK: it was the post master who actually told me about the job...and who complained to my mom about my not being on the list. She's going to look into it and suspects that of the five they gave her, most won't even want the job because it's so small...two hours a day.

Hey, speaking of cards (and I got several, thank you!!!) I think the address I have for rwhen is a dead one. Anyone have her current address?

I just realized I forgot to send a card to Wenchie... I knew I'd miss a few. I got most of you guys, though. Except I know for a fact I lost Toby's address, but I think I know where in my email it might be...
