Seeking TORCers with cameras.. MODS PLEASE LOCK

Postby GwenElf » Wed Nov 09, 2011 7:24 am

Hello newcomers! This is the home of the TORC 365 photo project, and we are looking to go another year, but with some new recruits!

Do you own a camera? Yes? Then you're in!

...no, really, that's all we want: people with cameras who are willing to take one photo per week (or to be an occasional guest poster) and share it on our blog.

You do not need to be a photographer. You don't need a fancy camera. All you need is a couple of minutes each week to take photo and upload it to the site. Photos can be of anything (TOSable) you like--aspects of your home, your workplace, your city, pretty landscapes, places you go on vacation, etc. The point of the blog is to share a little bit of yourself with the rest of TORC through pictures.

We've had a great time doing this in 2011 and plan on doing it again in 2012--if you're at all interested, either in being a regular poster or a guest poster, please post and let us know, and we'll get you set up on the blog before the new year!

:hihi:

Original post:

So I've seen lots of people do the 365 photo project (in which you take one photo per day and post it on a blog or album) and always thought it was a great idea, but also always tended to forget or feel like I wouldn't have enough time.

This past year, my cousin and a friend of his decided to do a joint project--each of them submits one photo per day to their site, but what makes it really cool is that they live in different towns, and he especially does a lot of travelling, so the pictures are from everywhere. (Their site is called South and Wool if you want to see it--I can't post the link because the current first photo has some profanity in it. :P)

This got me thinking about how cool it would be to do a TORC 365 project, where TORCers from all around the world would submit photos of their lives, hometowns, places they visit, etc.

I certainly don't expect people to post especially personal photos or anything like that -- people are welcome to photograph what they feel comfortable sharing on the internet, and anything from nature shots, for instance, to the interior of your new apartment would be welcome. The idea is basically a 360 photo project in which a big group of us from TORC is involved, which would not only vary the photo type and location, but also spread out the responsibility. What I figure is that even if 7 people are interested, that'd mean one photo per week from each of us, which we could upload to a joint website for everyone to see. If lots of people are interested, we can spread out the work further, or do what my cousin did and post two photos per day. Etc.

So.. anyone interested? Let me know here and we can start planning!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRAWLER!! Now you've gone & done it.. I want some cake. And I've been on a diet the last 4 weeks.. no such treats for me! But it does look yummy. *sigh*

Sil.. aww.. pretty kitty has an owie on her lip. :(

Wonder why it's not available?
Should I delete the post and try to repost?
I do have it on my Photobucket site.
Would that be a better choice and how would I go about all the reposting stuff?

I will try it again and edit.

Hobby! Lovely tradition! I've never heard of St. Martins day here, although the German community here does do 'St. Nicks' on the evening of Dec. 5th. St. Nick's was not a tradition in the state where I grew up.

Great pictures.

Hobby, that goodie looks delicious.
And I loved bubble pipes as a kid.
Thanks for the history behind the picture.

So what is in the bit of bakery? Is it like a soft pretzel or is it sweet? I like the little pipe. :) What is the other little bit on the (what I think is) the upper left chest?

And thank you Calma.. but I don't think I'm anywhere near Rodia's level.. although I also do consider myself an artist and have an 'eye' for such things. :)

Brilliant photos.

Hobby, I know about St Martin's Day, as they celebrate it in the Netherlands too, and I've actually been around the houses, singing. :) I still get one of the songs in my head whenever it comes round to the 11th November. :D

Rose, I can't think of an English name - it's a sweet yeast dough, very soft and white inside. The other little bit is a small lollipop - a modern addition that was first introduced to replace the pipe, but now that pipes are often back, you often get both. :D

That's so cool, heliona! :D
Yes, apparently, St Martin is popular in Protestant culture as well - a bit odd maybe, but I can imagine it's because of the lessons of sharing he teaches. :)

What fun it was to come in this morning and see such great photos and read such lovely stories.

Hobby, your treat looks totally yummy and the bubble pipe is too cool!! Love it and the back story.

Rose, I have to agree with Calma here, your eye for finding lovely shots is excellent. The party tree, your beautiful yard - all great, but my favorite was the pumpkin on its side, captioning "time to rest". Perfecto!!

Just popping in to say that I'm sorry about the placeholder for PB's post. I was in the process of sorting the photos for the blog just before heading off to work when my computer decided to freeze - but only when I was trying to do something with images, which meant that I could still post! As I had to dash off, I didn't have time to mess about with the computer.

I promise I shall have it sorted tomorrow morning (which of course for some of you will still be Friday anyway. :D;)).

heliona.. sorry to hear about your computer.. :( I hate that when that happens..and always when one is in a hurry.

For future reference if anyone needs to, one can 'backdate' (or post for a future date) and it will show up in the proper place. It's easy to do, just click 'post options' at the bottom of the post page, and enter the date/time you want the post to show up.

Tooksey.. I'm glad you love your camera! It serves you well. :)

Heliona, if it's any comfort, I had similar problems with my post. I'm not sure if it's the site or my computer, which definitely has all too little memory for everything that I'm doing with it now. :(

Well, I know on what I will use my tax refund.

Anyway, a few new photos from me while waiting for PB's pics. :)

Holy ornaments batman! Santa is at the mall already?! That is early! What type of shop do you work in PB?

Rowanberry.. what a lovely area for a gardening school. It looks so peaceful. :) It reminds me of a very nice 'camp'. Is your daughter finished with her schooling now, or just home for a break?

heliona.. lovely shot. It makes me want to come & visit! :D The 'hill' has a rich and varied history!

Ro! Lovely, lovely photo. What a grand beast! He looks very much like an American bison. I had no idea that Europe still had wild wisent. They were also hunted to near extinction in America.. I think with only about 40 beasts remaining in 1960. It is nice to see the herds making a comeback as it would be a shame to lose them forever.

I love everyone's pictures. Even laundry is fascinating when you care about the photographer.

Hobby, I was thinking that the pipe would be perfect for soap bubbles.

Ro, please put that picture on Zazzle, I want a print!

Also, one can date the picture with a future date and it will appear on schedule.

Christmas decorations in November are definitely all too early! Especially if there's yet another big national holiday like your Thanksgiving Day coming up before Christmas.

Rose, the older daughter got her essay accepted, so she'll graduate at the end of this month. However, my photos are from the younger one's school, where gardening is also one of the subjects one can study. My younger one isn't on the gardening class, though - at least not yet, you'll never know what she wants to try in the future when the class she's doing now is done! :D

That wisent looks great, Rodia! 8)

Thanks, guys! I was so happy to catch one in a picture (I keep wanting to say 'on film'. ).

They are wild, but there was a gap in their existence in the Forest- they actually did disappear completely from the wilderness just after World War I, which had a severe impact on their population and the ecosystem. The last wild wisent died in 1919.

The ones that live in Bialowieza Forest now are descendants of wisent reintroduced between the wars- in 1923 a society was formed which looked into the animals held in captivity and chose the ones suitable for breeding. There were sixteen of them out there just after World War II, there are about 500 now. A dozen or so are kept in the closed preserve, but the ones in my photos are free.

So I am searching now for a suitable photo for todays submission. Hm...... what to choose what to choose......
