I had to scrape ice off of my car this morning, but at least there was no more snow, rain, sleet, or whatever today.

Not yet anyway.

I needed to go to a party last night, so I put the car in extra low and went out of the driveway. I went along the 1/2 plowed streets and got to the hotel. I "minced" my way across the parking lot, and later, back, as there was a lot of unplowed snow about, and went home. 1" of snow that has been driven over is more difficult than 1' of new snow.

Sissy New Yorkers!

This isn't winter weather. This is a pleasant December morning. Hardly any ice worth speaking of and a fine dusting of snow. Just enough to make the walk out to the car interesting when you're still sleep deprived.

The only problem really is the other drivers, especially those in full panic because of the weather and should have stayed locked up at home instead of venturing out.

Tell me about it. A few snowflakes, and these silly people flock to the stores to stock up, fearing they may be snowed in and starve to death. They've been watching The Shining too much.

Ironic thing is, though, around these parts, the roads were about as slick as sand paper. People are just freaking out over the fact that it's "winter weather" as opposed to a light rain which would have been the alternative if it were a few degrees warmer.

See, this is why I hate people. The world would be much better off without most of us on it.

"I Hate People"--that's a song from the musical Scrooge! I just watched it yesterday.

This morning it was freezing rain, which meant there was enough on the sidewalks to make them slick. Walking was tricky and slow. By now, of course, it's all melted but it's still coming down, too warm to snow but too cold with the rain to not want to get indoors as quickly as possible. They're talking about snow tonight and/or tomorrow.

Snow today in the great state of New Jersey.

News station this morning said it was "The End of the World!!!!tm" and that we should all panic. Local weather forecast was for, at most, 2 inches of snow, light and powery that can be gotten rid of with a kitchen broom.

So far, from the brief glimpses I get through the boss's window, it looks like there's about an inch so far, and maybe half again that by the time this is supposed to end early afternoon. Not exactly worried here, though I did see at least 50 people lined up outside the market today panic buying. One woman had more food and supplies in her cart than would fit and it was like watching a Benny Hill comedy skit as she negotiated her way through the parking lot. Heaven forbid she might run out of something in the next 24 hours.

Yeah, panic buying is strange. How much of that will go bad before she gets around to eating it?
We have been getting an inch or so of snow, overnight, that melts off in the sunshine by about 1:00 PM. But, I think it does not melt off on the ski areas, which is good.

We had some snow yesterday, not very much. It stuck on the lawns but not on the pavement. By now it's probably melted; I haven't looked outdoors since I got to work. (No windows.) It was a clear sky early this morning.

About three inches of snow yesterday. No big deal. What we're looking at now is a "deep freeze" according to the weather channel, which amounts to 20F.

If that's a deep freeze then the inside of my freezer must be practically unearthly.

Just what I needed to remind me why I love summer so very much. Got a few calls to make tp my staff ( ) because guess who is not opening up the center today :D

Just like here! I walked to work, because the buses weren't running till 7 (which I found out after I got here) and I kept hoping because I was seeing outbound buses. If I'd known that, I'd have gone out later and waited and still got here at the same time. But I guess I needed the exercise. :) At least I got here! I just went around counting heads, and we have 11 people here right now, which is about half staff. Maybe a few more will show up later, I don't know. It's already 9:30 or so.

Most of the state is shut down, last I heard. Trains are running weekend schedule.

We had -19C with a windchill of -31C yesterday.
My parents are visiting from France and my sister suffered greatly. In her world "this is unnatural, what kind of a country do you live in?"

Can't complain though: we had a white christmas which was totally awesome.

That being said it is 9:43am and -23C and a windchill that will bring it down to -40C... that is cold . This is actually the coldest winter we've had since we settled in 2008; not as cold as my very first winter in Montreal but definitely the second coldest winter since I moved to Canada in 2004
Never forgetting those who have passed into the West :rose:

I realize that in winter, days are shorter the farther north one goes, but that was intellectual knowledge. I recently visited in Scandinavia and Oslo had 6 hours of daylight that day!!!.
I think that would be more depressing to me than the cold.
(On the other hand, some places in the upper midwest in the US are having -20 F degrees as a high temp. That is pretty depressing, too.)

Whoo Hoo boys and girls there's plenty to hate in The City today. It claims to be 11 degrees but the wind chill, and it is windy, takes it down to about a -3 Oh yeah I will have to let my hate for winter keep me warm because that other really HOT place surely has frozen over.

I hear ya! It's pretty cold here too. Actually it wasn't as bad this morning waiting for the bus as I thought; but it wasn't very windy right there. Once I got to work, though, with that big wide empty parking lot... Bbbrrrrr!! I came prepared: 3 shirts and a sweater, 3 scarves.

Yesterday, just to be perverse, in the rain & fog the temp got up into the 50s.

Welcome to New England.

Miserable sub-zero weather here again. Not much snow, but I hear it's coming Saturday.

Just in time for me to be out running errands in my piece of junk car with it's lovely bald tires.
