We've had a mixed bag lately. Really cold a few days ago, then it warmed up a bit and yesterday was gorgeous, but today it's partly rainy.

We rarely get snow here but the temperatures are definitely plummeting and I dont do so well in the cold. I believe it is colder now then it has been for probably two years. I mean the mountains around us definitely get snow but we dont get it much at this level, though we can and I fear we may this year for sure.

You are welcome Lord Hue, my brother of the boards!

Winter isn't nearly as brutal in the desert Southwest as it is many other places, but when that trough of Arctic air plunges down from Canada, it gets pretty woolly. Like now. Working on day 2 of 60+ mph winds, with air temps around freezing, snow on the way from Arizona.
I do remember also what winters are like in transalpine Europe, when you don't see the sun for weeks on end, night falls at 2.30 pm and the Russian low pushes temps to -20 Celsius for a daytime high......
November and December can be quite quaint and picturesque, with fog and drizzle and snow and Christmas markets and such, especially if you don't have to pay for the heating materials or worry about damage to anything.
Late January and February, however, can REALLY drag on forever. At that point, it's already been cold and dark and wet and messy for 3 or 4 months solid and there seems to be no end in sight.
Winter can be very nice if you can spend it in something like a ski resort, maybe land a job waxing skis and snowboards for the visiting Swedish hotties, but if you ask me what the Most Wonderful Time of Year is, I'll take May-July, thank you!

The temperatures have dropped out from under s dramatically over the last 24 hours. Went from about 60 degrees to just hovering at 20 degrees during the warmest part of the day here. Supposed t get even colder tonight and tomorrow along with some possible snow and rain in time for Thanksgiving. Should be lots of fun, though it does keep me from finishing raking the leaves.

Can't wait, actually, for the first real snow storm to hit.

We've had a few flurries around here, but nothing really bad---not yet anyway.

Although they are saying we will have a "white Thanksgiving."

Not really happy about that. I am supposed to go to my sister's house for dinner, and if the weather and the roads are bad, I won't make it.

We had a few flurries over the weekend that are still around on the grass. Looks real pretty. But darn if it weren't cold this morning, though. About 12 degrees when I walked out.

Well, the snow is here. BLLLEEEAAAGGHHH! :x

It's supposed to continue until about 2:00 AM, then just lake effect flurries. They're saying travel on Thursday should be OK. I hope so, I really hate driving on bad roads.

I count myself lucky that by the time the snow over PA got here it is now all rain. Two inches of rain, but rain nonetheless. Thank goodness. Two inches of rain would have been an hellacious snow storm and Thanksgiving would have been, likely, cancelled.

Plus, it's so good to have the rain since NJ is officially in drought thanks to a drier than expected September and October. All this after the wettest spring and summer on record. Go figure.

The rain's gone, The sun is shining. It is cold as cold but the wind had dIed down enough so that they will allow the big balloons in the Macy's Parade to fly, just not so high. WoooHooo to that 'cause the parade just ain't the parade if the big boys don't fly. Go there? :Q Been there. Done that. Never again.

This week is supposed to be in the 50's and even the 60's here in Mordor/NJ. Freakish warm weather for December, though it should make it warm enough to get the tons of leaves out of my gutter, which is a good thing.

Hopefully the cold will return soon.

Supposed to warm up here too, if you can call 50 degrees F warm.

But then it's going to drop back down to the low 30's by the weekend.

The edge of the chill has hit us, and it was freezing all day. The wind was not as bad as it was the last few days, but it was something. I was at the zoo and the visitors were wrapped up like skiers. Tomorrow issupposed to e worse. I am not planning to go out!

As a matter of fact, I can. :P :D

Y'all are daisies. Come on up and bask in my backyard - where our most recent 25 cm of fresh snow is currently enjoying a lovely -26C degree evening, frosted off with a mere -36C wind chill.

Yep. It be somewhat cold out there.

Lots of thick fog yesterday, which made driving . . . interesting. Today, rain, a bit of fog in some areas, and temperatures are dropping like a stone. They're saying that, by the time the weather moves out of here, we might get a bit of snow in the higher, cooler areas like mine. I'm kind of looking forward to it, actually. I like snow. Or, rather, I like snow that I don't have to shovel.

Now if only they weren't predicting freezing rain and ice for Sunday night into Monday morning, everything would be fine.

No, thanks. I'm good. :P

Really I wouldn't mind snow if it just wouldn't accumulate on road, sidewalks, or any other paved surface where it makes walking and driving hazardous. That also goes for ice and freezing rain.

Actually, that is the one good thing I can say about winter, here. At 6500 ft-to 7500 ft, the sun is very strong and it melts the snow off the streets and sidewalks pretty fast. So driving is usually OK, and walking is OK, unless you are walking in a shady area. But the other side of it is, it is WINDY in these mountains!
