Older than 60 -- so there!

Just as Tolkien and the Inklings used to meet at The Bird and the Baby, come in here to converse about whatever might be on your mind. This is the place for all off-topic conversation.

I cant say for sure, but it is possible.

I know for myself, I have more fun remembering what happened the night before instead of being embarrassed that I did something stupid or vile! I laugh at those who over do it but am willing to be sure they get home safely!

Vana---I agree, I'd rather remember what I did rather than find out by seeing it posted on UTube.

OK< it has now been 3 1/2 years that I have been obsessed by the need to clear out this house. I am getting close to burnout, but there is still a lot to do.
So, I am hiring a "senior move specialist" to help, give me ideas and keep my nose to the grindstone.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and I can see it getting closer and closer. Next month I will be 62 and can officially retire. I don't know as I will just yet but it is nice to know that camper and time to spend roaming around somebody's woods is getting closer The boy is 14 so pretty soon he will be able to share the driving

I wish I could officially (or even unofficially) retire.

I'm sure I'll have to work until I die on the job----and then they'll probably still expect me to answer the phone!

Hang in there Portia---getting help is always good.

Well I have been getting all my ducks in a row, so to speak. Have been getting advice from my stock portfolio and they have set it up so that I can start pulling when I wish, but I am going to try to wait till I am 70 if my health will hold out. Otherwise once I am 62 I can start using it. Also I have both my insurance and my portfolio settled that if something happens to me, Guru will have the finances to get himself out of debt and still do something with my remains (cremation is my preference) I was cold most of my life and so finally maybe I will feel warm. ;) I just don't want to leave him with a financial burden.

It isn't as much as I wish I could leave or have for my retirement but with a young husband, I think he can afford to still support me some for a while anyways.

It is amazing how fast the years pass. I am now 58 and feeling much older some days, but I can see the end of the tunnel as well. I love working but it would be nice to not have to work.

When August Comes

Postby prmiller » Tue Jul 22, 2014 8:55 am

When August comes
there shall be drums
that beat in celebration,
Yes, then, at last
bright trumpets blast,
"Rejoice!" In jubilation.
This pilgrim's age,
shall be where sage
and wiser hearts see clearly
That life can hold
a newer gold
they hold to much more dearly.
For there, no thief,
can cause you grief
for treasures that you cherish
youlive each day
and find a way
to pass on what you cherish.
Hello, my friends,
My childhood ends,
yet, I more childlike be,
Shall find, like you,
Good things and true,
Last for eternity.

Enjoying the journey into becoming 60,
Parm, the partially pubescent
:)
The autumn I know and love in Calgary.

I am now older than 62 and, after a long absence, am enjoying visiting TORC again, visiting new threads and revisiting some older ones. It is so very good for me to see some familiar and very fond friends thoughts here. I know many of my friends no longer post on TORC but it sure is fun and refreshing to see their thoughts which they took time to share here. If you read this, please know I am hoping you and yours are well and happy. And I thank all of you so very much for bringing much joy to me. You are remembered and so very much appreciated. Much love, FT.

Hurray and Huzzah,
I am now 62,
and learning the ropes
of what seniors can do.
Alas three more years
I must add, then, to gain,
discounts on movies
to see once again;
take classes as uni,
get my PhD--
after learning some math
to do stats (oh...yippee...).
I shuffle more slowly,
forget things...like...well,
I thought I heard something
that rang like a bell...
and then takes a message!
(Thanks Telus!) Ah, sixties!
Let's live denture-free!

I can officially say that old age is no longer creeping up on me. It put on a full court press and blindsided me. One more birthday and I hit 65. I just read here that I was thinking of retiring at 62. Well that did not happen but I cant say I am too unhappy about that. I took this job, heck I created this job, not for the money, I was making mad money at the corporate grind, nope I did it for love of the work and that will keep me going for as long as I can keep this place open.

Besides I cant afford to slow down now, the boy can almost look me straight in the eye....and he got a hungry look. =:)

Well I have passed 60 now and my dreams of retiring are far from being in the new future.
I have been a professional cashier for over 40 years and am so tired of it but alas have no other skills that matter in the working forum. I am too old to have to work two jobs just to try to reach full time hours. I am tired and don't want to do it anymore besides the fact that my health is starting to really give me troubles. My beloved got a new job that was an income lower job but at least he is not commuting anymore. I keep praying that we will get the finances turned around so that I can at least quit one job and get more rest that I need.

Ah life after 60, it feels just like 30,40 and 50! Except for the aches and pains that come with the body wearing down. I am so thankful to still be alive.

I think of journeys we've taken in here,
finding our way, and enjoying each beer;
making up stories, poems, and songs,
joining occasions with TORCers in throngs;
I am so glad, you are who you are.
You are a friend, sister, mentor...and star!
