Older than 60 -- so there!

Just as Tolkien and the Inklings used to meet at The Bird and the Baby, come in here to converse about whatever might be on your mind. This is the place for all off-topic conversation.

Indeed. AND they don't even have a suitable replacement, if any replacement at all!!!

I got Medicare part A automatically when I hit 65, but still can't afford B and D, the parts you really need. I'm working towards that goal and will be there fairly soon.

Ah geez, we are two old goobers rocking on the porch yelling at the young 'uns to get off our lawn. LOL. HEY we have earned it, right?

Yea! We have!

Today a fawn was on my lawn getting a drink from the bird bath. I didn't mind that young'un.

Re the ACA: I have a better policy now than when I was working. It costs a little bit more per month, but it was worth it since I had to have carpal tunnel surgery (from working ons stoopid computers for 30 years).

No indeed, those sorts of young 'uns are always welcome. Alas I am a city dweller....crows? Sometimes a squirrel will hope across the road. At the end of this year I do need to move again....Brother Jim is encouraging me to move back to the WA side of the river....more rural and much smaller than Portland, yet still close. I wouldn't want to commute...so I would have to transfer to a different store or look for alternate work...that keeps me grounded for now.

Good that you got the ACA under control. Sorry to read about the CT surgery. :( That hurts for a long time after. I guess we'll see what happens in WA over the next few years to see if they can work out ACA or it will get dumped. That is why I am moving towards Medicare expansion on what I have now. Who knows??

Have you looked into filing for SS yet? It is fairly easy, but a long process. I did mine all over the phone and was approved in about four weeks. I also applied for disability and got the dump on that. Life.... ;)

Ouuufff!! Feeling the age a bit today. I had to lift a ton of heavy things yesterday. It always happens when we have a hot streak, people buy water by the tons. *sigh*

Argh, WORK is for the young at heart and stronger body I tell ya.

I was just thinking the first mOObie came out 18 years ago and I was a sprite 46 year old. My how the time flies.

Yeah, I joined just before the movies in 2001 and felt like a total n00b at that time with all the big brains that used to post.

I read the Hobbit in the late 60's and LotR's in the late 70's. Tolkien was a gateway for me to all books Fantasy and I couldn't be more grateful for that.

Body is barely recovered from yesterday, but one more night shift....we close at 9pm, then the cleaning up starts. ARGH. I don't get home until around ten PM. I tell ya, I could use a shot of giddy up about now.

Was Tolkien a gateway for you as well, Tooks?

In a way. I enjoy some other fantasy books, but in general I lean towards non-fiction. Ha.
When I was a kid "Rascal" was a favorite of mine (story of a boy in Wisconsin with a raccoon - :D )
"The Grail Bird' I loved, as well as "Seabiscuit".

For mindless entertainment, I read mysteries like Agatha Christie and some newer authors.

A recent novel I greatly enjoyed was "A Gentleman in Moscow".

Wait, shouldn't we be in a books forum??? ;)

LOL I think it is okay to be wherever we are at the moment.

I too like non-fiction, more history related. I thought you for a Science Fiction sort...you know...the Star Trek and all. :P

Seabiscuit....one of my favs!! But I admit I am a die hard Fantasy reader.

Okay. Legs hurt, feet hurt, back hurts. No, I am not over 60 at all. Why does it feel more like 70 today. ;)

Oooooh a margarita or even rum and coke would have helped my aches I bet. Unfortunately about six months ago I got really sick and couldn't keep anything down including meds for a week. For some reason after that, I haven't had the taste for anything boozy. Too bad....I love me a good drinkie.

Today is a better day. Still gonna rest for tomorrow is errand day. Then back to work on Friday. Goes so fast. ;)

Feeling achy today???

Don't you find it hard to believe that we are the only two posting that are over 60.....*to steal a phrase* Boy howdy, it won't be long until it is the "Over 70" thread. I can only hope anyway.

Back to work today. All aches and pains gone. And ready to rock the register. ;)

You enjoy the 'ritas for me. I have a feeling that eventually I will find a way to sneak the boozy stuff back in to my life. Just not feelin' it yet.

Try and stay cool. I see the whole of your area are burning up. :(

Yea. Temps in the 90s here today. And humid. Yuck.

Staying in the house for now, but I'll have to go out and water plants later.
Have fun at work! Is all the stuff at the store only $1???

PS: Surely there are more 'over 60' folks out there. Somewhere.

I think we are all right in there....I am pushing 66, only thing that is good for is allegedly retirement, as if....and yelling at kids. :P

I wonder where portia got off too, the originator of this thread. Hope she is well.

Work on Sunday is a miserable tale, best saved for the HELLLO thread...so off I toddle, rubbing a sore back.

rwhen and Tooks "waves" great to see you two here still.

Ninui I am not sure we have met before on the boards. Just call me Vana and I am 63.

There are still some of us around and I don't mind admitting to my age. I earned each year the hard way!!

Oh rwhen just so you know, my disability came through last week so I am now getting some money to help us out. They accepted it all the way back to November when I had to quit working like I did but they only started paying for May and June and starting next month I will get paid for July and then on and on after that. What a relief! :hugs:

I am planning on coming online more often now that I am home body! I went through some depression since I quit working and buried myself in movies and books to keep from thinking about it. But I am doing better on meds and now finally knowing things are looking up.

Vanadarlin' great news. I told you that they would have to pay you back to where you applied. Excellent and it will always be helpful to have that money.

I am feeling my oats this afternoon after working yesterday until night and turning around and opening this morning. Ouch!!! Feet hurt!!

Some days I too feel every inch of my age, but ya know what? I don't think about it. Time is time. But I admit that when I was a kid, I could never ever imagine being in my mid-sixties. Go figure the youth of it all.

I hope that you do post more often. :D

I truly plan on it so I am here again. I could not get on yesterday because my computer decided to block me out. Guru got online and figured out the hitch and deleted some things and now I am back. HUZZAH!!!

They only paid back to May and June but it beats nothing and they said I had to be 5 full months not working so they counted my time back to the end of November so that helped greatly!

YAHOOOOO it will be great to have you around. Besides it just wouldn't do if you hadn't come back and I took that magical fourth ringie thing. :P *runs*

I just got declined a second time for disability. They couldn't research my medical history back far enough to verify all the information I gave them. Sorry I can hardly remember what I ate for supper last night let alone doctors names that treated me over forty years ago!!!

Work this afternoon and then tomorrow closing....ugh. Next week I have TWO closings out of three work days. Let's see how that goes. I am actively looking for admin work where I won't have to be standing in a small space all shift. Pray I find something.

rwhen darlin have you checked with a temp agency for an office position? It's a thought. I am so sorry they declined you again! That sucks big time!!
If they had declined me I was going to tell them to stuff it and apply for early retirement. I would rather take a bit less of SS then to have to go many more months without anything. :P

Thanks ladies. Good to know you have my back. :grouphug:

Vanadarlin', yes, I have checked out everything including grandma's crusty shorts in my year off work. If what we hear is the lowest time for unemployment we are certainly at a job shortage around here....or jobs you just wouldn't take for love nor money. I got the gig at the Dollar Store because I stopped in there to pick up a few things and saw they had a poster in the window that they were hiring.....a week later and voila....I am now among the employed.....again.....

If I can find better housing in Vancouver and move back there, I won't have to work. I am just making up the income that I used to make from my last job to what I get on Social Security. Which is a crying shame!!!

Re: Older than 60 -- so there!

Today I took the dog for a 3 miler in the morning. Even though it was 'cool', it was humid so I ended up all damp. :P

Now I am hanging out in the house staying cool. I would rather be in the garden but I will wait for cooler weather. blah.

So I have done some housecleaning. Such fun!!!

You are a better Tooks than I. I worked hard yesterday (what is up with people buying 30 items for Thanksgiving????) Anyway from the time I got on register to the time I walked off a half hour OT....plus I had a small shop to do there (I did NOT want to return today) I got home late, ate late and only slept a short while. Result? I feel like grandma's bloomers that had been wrung through the ringer once too often. Pain. But I took my meds and in about a half hour I'll head to the grocery store and do a substantial shop. As I wrote on the TVM, after that...NOTHING. My lazy arse will enjoy some downtime, I work tomorrow and closing ta boot.

So another day of feeling my oats..... just an old nag here. (talking about the horse, not the condition....well maybe both) ;)

Vana? Ninui? Tooks? Portia? Drag your old self on up and let us know what you are doing today!!

I went grocery shopping also.

Earlier I did a 2.5 mile run and a 1.7 mile dog walk.

It is hot but not humid outside, but I may just stay in until the evening anyway. :P

Maybe a nap is in order. ;)
