Cool and a little rainy here. Fall has definitely arrived.

I hope the temps don't drop too much at night. The landlord's not about to turn on the heat this early.

Maybe November if we're lucky.

Yesterday, for some unknown reason, my sig pic on TORC disappeared, and I couldn't get into my Photobucket account.

In fact, I couldn't get to Photobucket at all. It had to be something with MY computer, because when I went to the library to renew a book, I got on one of their computers where I had no trouble at all connecting to Photobucket. I also checked TORC, and my sig pic was back. :?

Stupid computer better NOT mess up on me! I can't afford to replace it, or repair it, or anything else.

Besides a new computer would probably come equipped with Windows 10 which I am a little leery of. The IT guy who works at my office doesn't think much of it.

And I read something a while back that said Microsoft might start charging people for using Windows 10.

I think there was talk of charging people to upgrade once the "Free upgrade!" period passed, but I can't see how they could charge people for using it now when they practically forced the upgrade on us--I had to shut off my "Recommended Updates" feature so that it wouldn't automatically download Windows 10. I have it on one laptop and I don't think it's that bad, but that laptop had Windows 8 before, so it wasn't a huge change.

LadyKat, did you try visiting Photobucket on a different browser? Maybe it was something in Firefox/IE/Chrome/whatever you're using?

Hope everyone's having a good Monday! I was at a conference all weekend so now I'm recovering. Also drinking some seriously watered-down coffee--apparently one scoop wasn't enough! :P

Yes, I tried with Google, Internet Explorer and Firefox. None would work.

But it's OK now, so I don't know what the problem was.

LK, I went on a few days ago and they had a notice
Saying they were doing routine maintenance
It wasn't too long after that they were up and running.

I have Windows 10 and I'm happy with it.
Heard the same rumors about them charging as well.
Don't think they're able to do that
Besides the entire universe would descend on Microsoft
Baring pitchforks and torches.
They'd never make it out alive.

Windows and Apple OS are why my next computer will be Linux. I'm just sick of them both unto death.

Just back yesterday from the Adirondacks first anniversary tour. Why is it that simply driving for 5 hours is so exhausting? Seriously, all I did was sit there!

I find driving exhausting too, Hamlet. Though, with our new(er) car, it wasn't as bad driving to Chincoteage this year. I did most of the driving both ways and did okay. I could have sold that car Monday too. My cousin and her partner are looking into Subaru Crosstreks and she asked me all kinds of questions. I should have let her take it for a drive...didn't even think of it.

LK, what system do you have and how old is your computer? My husband does computer work (along with making cabinets and burying people!), I might be able to ask him for suggestions to keep it running. The best I can say is run a malware program regularly on it, like Spybot. Glary utilities has some good free stuff too.

You might just be sitting there, but you're concentrating for all that time too, and that's exhausting. I used to drive to my parents in one go - six hours. Now I try to split it by visiting friends half way there. :)

Iris---I don't remember exactly when I bought this computer. It was about the time Windows 8 first appeared on the scene, so that was shwt? 2011? 2012? Somewhere around in there.

The system was then "upgraded" (at least that's what they called it  ) to 8.1. Wasn't much of an improvement that I could see, just made things more complicated. And there are certain apps that I used to be able to use that I can't get into at all now.

My computer at work has really been pitching fits lately, we've had the IT guys out at least three times just in the past two weeks. They installed a couple of programs on the work computer that I thought I might try at home. One is called Malwarebytes and the other is Cryptoprevent. Both have free versions but of course the free ones don't get automatic updates. I briefly checked the Cryptoprevent, and there are two paid versions one $15.00 and one $25.00. It's a one time payment only, after that you never have to pay again, or that was my understanding. So I might look into that.

Any and all suggestions from someone who knows computers would be greatly appreciated though. :D

Since I don't have to work this Friday (the way my company sets up the schedule, they abuse us horribly most of the time and then give us every other Friday off) today is virtually Friday. A busy day at the office, but at least I don't have to worry about being here tomorrow.

Right now, I'm mostly wishing I could go back to Lake Placid for another week. It was really pretty up there. Plus, I spent 45 minutes in a call in meeting this morning looking through our company's "retirement estimator" software. And according to it, if I stay working till I'm 70, I'll have "merely" a $2m income gap.

Yay!

I use Malwarebytes as well. A computer doctor used it to rid my computer of viruses that disabled my computer for a while, viruses that got past Norton. I use Avast! as well. I downloaded the other one, but I'm not sure what it does, if anything.

I ask the IT guy about that Cryptoprevent. He said it's supposed to stop ransomware attacks like crypto locker. That's when someone gets your files and encrypts them, and you have to pay to get them decrypted again.

I haven't downloaded that one yet, but I think I will. I did get the Malwarebytes.

I would like to try the Avast! protection, but I have Norton at least until I think it's April of next year. I know they won't refund any of my money, so I'm not going to uninstall it. I did stop the auto renew, though.

Could I get the Avast! if I still have the Norton on my computer? Does anyone know?

I know what ya mean, CR. I feel for ya dude.

I'm back to working Fridays now, which is a thing I hate. But I have to try to get a little extra money ahead, because we will have days off for the holidays.

I'll enjoy the time off, but I won't get paid for it.
