I went last year for the first time with friends who game regularly and had a great time. I'm a cosplayer so anywhere with costumes is good, and I also spent a lot of time in writing panels (Jim Butcher was the author guest of honor last year), which is where I'll be most of the time this year as well. Definitely go if you get a chance--it's awesome! Also: food trucks. And Bee Coffee Roaster.

I ended up at my first convention last year after meeting future Mrs. H. It was prior to our "real dating" so to speak, though lead directly to it in a number of ways. She wanted to go to AnimeNext, but lacked her usual companion who acted as a second pair of eyes and a sometime bodyguard (apparantely, there's an issue at this con for some . . . issues with regards to how women are treated). I was requested to fill that role and did so. Had the best time, and ended up getting into Anime and Manga because of it. This year, went back and we cosplayed (my first time) together and it was quite a bit of fun.

Sometime in the next couple of years, we plan on going to another convention or two. Maybe the Star Trek convention out in Vegas, or Gencon, or something. She's getting into gaming and sci-fi because of me, and I'm getting into Anime because of her. Works out. Complimentary geekiness.

Never been to a game con. Not into gaming but would like to go to the Emerald City Comiccon next year if I can handle the ginormous crowds, (don't like them at all ). Maybe someone from the Walking Dead will be there. Maybe Daryl !

Spiders are evil.

EVIL!

Hate those damned things. Nothing like sitting in the chair on the patio and feeling a tickle on your leg, realizing it's one of the evil monsters the size of a quarter creeping up your calf and obviously up to no good, and shrieking like a little girl.

If it's a spider, shrieking is perfectly acceptable. Needless to say, a particular scene in LOTR is very hard for me to watch. Actually, I've only watched it once. And didn't even try with The Hobbit.

As of 4pmEST yesterday, I am officially homeless. A very nice young couple bought my house from me and now I am left waiting for a couple of weeks before we can close on a house of our own.

I've got a nice cardboard box to live in though. Very spacious.

Cardboard never lasts around my neck of the wood, too much rain. Have to reinforce it with a Walmart shopping cart or two.

Hate spiders, thankfully they don't get too big around here, and then there's that random freak of nature that I find every once in a while which makes me hop online and look at property in Antarctica (after I kill it, I just can't abide the thought that any spider I see is still out there waiting to find me when I'm alone, unsuspecting, and vulnerable. I've learned the lesson that all those revenge bad guy movies where trying to teach us.)

Gearing up for another school year. I am dread the impending, unavoidable necessity of going and setting up my classroom. I teach Math, Science, and Bible, I am not creative in the least.

hamlet--I may be living in a cardboard box myself soon. If my job disappears, I won't be able to afford to pay rent anywhere, so...........

No real hope of getting another job either. I've tried. Maybe at Mickey D's but I can't live on what they pay. Not sure anyone can.

There are some pretty big spiders around here. Of course, to me, anything bigger than a pin head is too big. We also have those centipedes? millipedes? whatever you call those creepy things with all those legs that shoot across the floor or up the wall with lightening speed. They get pretty big too, I seldom see one less than an inch long. Saw one the other day. Zavie (one of my cats) pounced on it, slowing it down, and I pounced on him before he could eat the icky thing. I then proceeded to smack it with my shoe, gather up the remains with a tissue, and give it a burial at sea-----i.e. I flushed it down the toilet.

LadyKat: I know what you mean. My company is facing layoffs in September which promise to be fairly terrible. They continue to fire the low level people and leave incompetent management untouched and then wonder why productivity goes down when they have 2.3 managers to every engineer. And yes, I've actually done the math on that. There's more than two managers per actual producing engineer here, not counting the finance and other groups.

But, they pay more than the next place that wants me to move to Manhattan for minimum wage. >-O :x

Minimum wage in Manhattan? You might as well not have a job.

I'm moving to Alaska with Qwill!!!!!!! Who's with me?

Okay, this is still a quiet thing, but I want to share it with some friends...my mom has to have a breast biopsy next week. There's a cluster they're concerned about. I'm trying really, really hard not to worry but...all three of her sisters had cancer. And she's 74. And...yeah...I'm worried.
