Who knows New Orleans well?

Postby luthienelflover » Sun Jul 06, 2014 7:17 pm

Hello friends! I know I've been totally MIA. Turns out having a toddler takes up a lot of time. Who would have thunk?

Anyway, we just found out we are moving to New Orleans. Tim got a job at Tulane so we are off next month. It's terrifying but also exciting! It's going to be a biiiig change - I have never lived outside the Midwest. Wondering if any of y'all are familiar with the city and can help prepare me a bit. We aren't going to get to go down there before the move at all!

Alas, Whistler is the only TORCer I know of who knows New Orleans. But he hasn't been around in ages. :(

Perhaps there are others?

Don't freak out!! This could be great fun!! Just remember to keep your clothes on during Mardi Gras and avoid dark alleyways. ;) Actually there are some very nice places in N"Orleans. Never been there myself but I have a nephew who lives in Shreveport (He loves N'Orleans) and I know that Meli has been to Mardi Gras there before. It is like most towns, there are good areas and not so good areas. Before picking a home try to see what the neighborhood is like in the evenings and on weekends when more folks are likely to be home. It will give you a better idea of the area. Most realtors also know what areas to avoid so don't be afraid of using a realtor to find a rental or home.

So learn the language kind of Cajon and French and English all mixed up. Beware if you hear banjos! But you are so lucky to get to move to someplace new and exciting. Man I pity you moving in the heat of summer to the south though. Humid and storms. Keep safe and look at it like the grand adventure that this is!
