*cracks his knuckles, greases his palms and pinches his forehead*

Greetings, old-timers!

This thread is about the past - how it is ever fleeting, ever elusive, and how hastily it runs away in the opposite direction. Time, the friend of some and the enemy of many, is laughing at us, while we try to hold on to the branches in this vast tree of life. Snap, and we fall, only to grab another branch, a few years down. Snap, and there goes yet another year; and yet again we countdown from ten to zero to celebrate the passage of time. It still amazes me how fast it all goes.

I joined this forum back in January of 2001. That is over 15 years ago. I now occasionally work with kids who haven't been on this Earth for that long. I feel old forum-wise, and pretty old otherwise, too. I turn 30 this June, leaving the 20's behind, and this has been a time of reflection and remembrance. And this - this place I remember fondly. This place is the reason I fell in love with the English language - I didn't learn it in school, I learned it here. I have been part of this community ( although my active years are far behind me ) for exactly one half of my whole life. So I am as much a "One Ringer" as I am a human being. :)

Maybe I'll stay for a bit this time. Maybe I'll reach for that 15,000 milestone, if only to celebrate the 15 years I've been a member here.

It's good to be back.

Welcome back my friend!!! Believe it or not I have been thinking of you lately and wondering how you were doing. I did not join when you did but have been a member here now for 14 years and it still feels like yesterday! So many great friends from around the world and so many wonderful memories! I may not post here every day but I do come check things out several times a week and hope that you will find that time as well.

Vanaladiel! I also remember you like I remember yesterday - and yesterday was a pleasant day, full of lazy Sunday shenanigans ( which I love ), such as binge-watching Netflix-shows and eating greasy foods. :)

I am doing fine, thank you! I am now working full-time in the theater ( well - this is my 6th year as a professional actor ), I have a lovely girlfriend, we have a house together, and life is good. How are you, if I may ask?

Hey, man. Nice to see an oldie back on the premises. Aren't enough crusty old timers around here for my taste.

Though the fact that you're just about to turn 30 revises my impression. For some reason, I always imagined you a bit older.

But I recall the name and I'm happy to see it back on the boards.

So grand to see everyone. Time sure does fly. That infant that kept me awake and allowed me to discover this magical place is now as tall as I am, sporting a pretty decent starter mustache and is now a High School budding computer wiz. Where does it go?

That is so cool to hear, ol' Hue! So good to see you, too. We had some great times back in the day, eh?

Calma, I also have a hazy recollection of your name, but now is as good a time as any to get to know each other better. Hope your life is going well, too! :)

Hamlet, you Shakespearean classic, you! I actually played in the play you're named after ( back in 2013 ) - I was Laertes, and I got to have a pretty epic sword-fight with you.. ehm.. Hamlet near the end of the play. We rehearsed that beast for months, but it was worth it - the audiences seemed to really enjoy our work. :)

Hamlet's always been one of my favorites. Never had the privilege to play in it, though I've seen several very good shows. The closest I can come to fame was playing in a school production of Our Town, which most people just don't remember.

My hat is off to you! Being married for that long in this day and age is a respectable achievement. :) Your sons are about as old as me, too!

*quietly wishes he had Calma's life*

I wanted very much to be a chef while I was in school, but then I met a chef and he explained that cooking in a restaurant is nothing like cooking at home. That kind of killed it for me.

And yes, yes fish cooking is good. Nice grilled salmon with spices. Mmmmm . . .

The chef was right....

Actually I'm not a chef.
Chef's go to school for years.
I was a cook.
I cooked in restaurants and did institutional cooking as well.
All my training came on the job
And it was not the fancy stuff you see on cooking shows.
