*passes salsa to rwhen*

I retired at 60 last year. Thankfully I have one decent retirement account with TIAA, so am hanging in there until I can get my Social Security.

hmmm.... me and 0 guests at the moment. The dog got me up early today.

*digs into salsa dripping the lovely red stuff about the alone home living room* I'll leave that for Scribbles. :P

Yeah, congrats that your retirement is enough to keep you going until you get your Social Security. I tell ya, Tooks. I started working in 1968 and have been employed for almost 5 decades, it is a crime that the SS benefits are not enough to pay rent and bills. They do allow other income as long as it doesn't exceed the SS benefit monthly payment. Hence the job at the $$ store. I only work about 15+ hours a week, a far cry from my last job where I worked 50+ a week. Too bad that company couldn't hang in there until I turned 66....but there ya have it. We survive.

I have to remember how to put an image into a post and my siggie. OHHHH look at my avatar, remember the days when we call those double shields "boobies". I hope that makes it through TOS. Just in case, *finds a place to sleep off all the great Mexican food and slushy margueritas*

I wonder who it was that first noticed and got it to be a meme here in the great halls of TORC.....*shrugs*

I got called in again today to work, too many people calling out sick, but it means a nicer paycheck come next Friday.

I think I am going to drop a line to friend Scribbles and see if I can't get her outta bed for a few posts. I am surprised we haven't seen her yet, then again, she has her own basket pretty full at the moment. This could be a lovely distraction? Erm.....we'll see.

If not, we are on our onesies for now and will make it work.

*starts cleaning some cobwebs from the corners and bookshelves to keep busy*

Now you mind to keep Louie outta here until I am done!! :nono:

I wonder who that perv in m00bies could be, hmmmmmmm?

Today one guest visiting this forum at this time. Geesh, TORC literally echos with the voices of the days gone by where there could be hundreds of folks posting at any given time.

Are you still doing MoST and MoME?

Time for me to mosey off to the shower and prepare for another day at work. I think they are secretly trying to wear me out. :P

We haven't done MoST or MoME the past couple of years. Not enough contestants, sadly. :(

This past Feb we did do a Star Trek theme at the TVM thought. :)

:Q No MoME or MoST? That is a TORC staple, what happened to everyone I wonder. It makes me feel a bit guilty now for not having kept up my part by missing all those years of posting. Not that I am any sort of TORC glue or anything, but I would feel much more in the loop so to speak.

I wish I could have been around for the glory days of MoME and MoST: they look like they were a lot of fun. And I'm sure there were lots of funny stories to come out of them.

The old threads are still around, but most of the links to pictures don't work anymore (especially since photobucket wants money to hotlink now).
They were great fun, that is for sure. MoME was the first, of course, and it started in the m00bies forum.

At one time I though we ought to do a MoLT - Males of Looney Tunes. ;)

MoST and MoME were the biggest reasons why I joined up. They looked like a lot of fun and I knew I wanted to try. So happy when I won both. Although MoSt was a tie. Wanted to come back in so Julian could stand alone but I'll accept the win the way it came. Maybe some day we can do them again.

Hey Ninui!! Yeah I did my fair share of MoST and MoME. Had a ton of fun. I can't recall winning....LOL, but a great time either way. It makes it much harder to do without a fair amount of folks to participate....but maybe Tooks will feel like trying...

MoLT???? Tooks....you madcap!! I guess I would have to go with Pepe LePew....or Foghorn Leghorn. Lot's to choose from. OOPS I just realized I would have to look up if those characters were even Loony Toons....hmmmm.

So just one guest posting. HEEEEELLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Get your TORC posteriors back in here!! Don't make me call your mom's!!! :P

I haven't had internet at home for several days and so I've missed the Return of Rwhen! ;)

Except for my hug back in the TVM.

I'm at my church at the moment. I need to write some articles before my next meeting. But I couldn't resist coming in here first. Glad I did.

rwhen, I'm so sorry about the job loss. How is working at a dollar store? Which company, may I ask? We've had a lot of Dollar General stores popping up around here. Apparently they have a business model to have one in every small town, but they can only be X number of miles close to each other. Something like 8, I think? It's been a good thing for the little burbs that have to drive 20-30 minutes to a grocery store, they can get most staples at a 5 minute drive or less and save the trips to the grocery store.

Things sure have changed around here, haven't they? I remember the MOST with Henry Mudd and Spot...I laughed so hard one day my co-workers kept giving me funny looks.

Iris. Excellent to see you again. I think I could write a book about "people who shop at Dollar stores".....sort of like people of WalMart. Dollar Tree here and other than all the hours for what is supposed to be a part time job, it is okay, it gives me what I need above my measley social security check. What are you up to these days? All well on your end of the planet?

Hey Rose....Pippin sure has changed since your last photo of him. *runs* Good to see you!!!!!!!!

Thor'n good luck with ropin' that "guest"....I think many of them are bots. But I'm happy to sit back with a cold sweet tea and watch ya. :D

Tooks just what are the "Godly" hours again? *runs faster*

ahahaahaaa.. yea.. um... not Pippin.. maybe Pippin's friend (frienemy? :) They share the peanuts under the bird feeder. More or less. First come, first served. Took me forever to figure out how to post a photo...

We have 2 Dollar trees and a Family Dollar in our town. My grandmother used to work for a Five & Dime and I tried to explain what that was to my daughter and hubby said it was like a dollar store. I never thought of it that way, but I'd suppose it was more like a Family Dollar (where things range from $1, $2, $3, $5, $10 or so. The store my grandmother worked in had one of those candy counters that was like a big 'O' where they would stand in the middle and it was surrounded by glass bins and you would point to what you wanted & tell them about how much and they would scoop the candy into paper bags & weigh it for you. Wow... that sounds so old-timey!

I hope they hire someone and your hours become a little more reasonable rwhen.

How does one go about registering now a days. there's no log-in/register box up in the corner any more like it was for me when I registered. Just asking. Maybe those mystery folk don't know how

I think the moderators disabled that feature sometime in November, or around then, because of the influx of spam that was clogging up the Books forum. I do wish there was a way to regulate the spam while also allowing new members to sign up, such as one of those things that tests if you're a robot or whatnot - I'm lucky I got in when I did!

Rose...this is a true Dollar store, everything is a dollar or less. Imagine checking someone out with 75 items. ARGH. I cringe whenever I see someone pulling to my station with two carts full of "stuff". I did enjoy the three off. Back today for two, I need to check my schedule for next week, I wouldn't be surprised to find I am also working Sunday and Monday like last week. *sigh* I guess Pippin isn't in the mood for chasing off the 'coons these days. Coon watching isn't a bad thing after all. ;) Good to see you.

Thor'n. I think the admin here did try all possible to limit the bots with questions and goofy lettering on sign up, but they still were overpowering the site. Still I hear you that it would be a bummer to want to be a new actual human member and not be able to sign up. What to do???

My hope is that Tooks isn't so lonely on a Thursday or any other day of the week. Or any of us for that matter. I tell ya, you just ought to have seen it back in the day. But we can't dwell on what is not, but what is. So.....

*dips into Ninui's lasagna* YUM. I am a foodie, no better way to get me jumpin' than some foodie talk or "good eats". :D Thanks...

HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The house!! Off to get ready for work. Enjoy the lasagna!!

In the UK they have Pound stores. :) Of course they are not going to have 'Dollar' stores, but it still struck me oddly funny when I saw it. I used to go to the dollar store a lot years ago. It's a great place to pick up party goods or little things for the kiddos, or all the little things one needs when they go off to college or move into a new place.

Bots.. they ruin some of the fun.

*washes the empty lasagna dishes*

Rose...Pound stores!! For some reason that brings to mind something different. :P But yeah, the $ store is good for all kinds of stuff. For those who don't have much money for food it is also a mecca. I spoke to my friend in AZ and at their $ type store (not the same chain as where I work) they sell fresh fruits and veggies!!! I would love that if ours did it too. I admit to also being a patron of the $ store. :)

Ninui....it would sure take a lot of recruiting to get a MoME or MoST or MoLT going as I see the boards right now. But I did always try to rise to the challengse, regardless of how crazy they got. :) Poor Gimli!!

Off to pay some bills and then get ready for a night shift. ARGH..

*nips some sourdough bread on the way out*
