My grandmother use to make mac n cheese from scratch and bake it in the oven.
Was the very best.
She also use to make pies from scratch. Had the best recipe for crust I've ever seen.
Seems it 'walked' out of my kitchen the day my ex-roommates moved out.
She made not only berry pies but cream pies from scratch. I remember standing at the stove and stirring the custard.

Ah the memories. I miss her so very much.
We use to do all kinds of things like crafts together.....

Another favorite thing, and probably my most Tolkienesque passion (aside from writing) - my love of mythologies, especially Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic and Hindu.

Also - New Age music: I was first introduced to it by, what else, Enya's beautiful songs on the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack, and it has become possibly my favorite branch of music. Though I'll admit I'm also very much a fan of rock 'n' roll.

My favorite tv genre are police /lawyer dramas. Too bad westerns are no longer seen on the tube. Remember how they once dominated the airwaves ? "Yo Rinny"!!!, "Hi yo Silver "!!!!
All those episodes of Death Valley Days and Wagon Train. Geeze those were days . Can watch them on demand, (Starz/Encore), but it doesn't seem right.

My favorite vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee. Current one is red w/ black interior. The model has never failed me in a serious way.

I think you should just let it go???? Since TORC is cruising without being monitored, I think folks have had trouble trying to change things in their accounts. ????

If we can lasso a mod maybe we can find out for sure. Heliona..... where are you?????? ;)

Hi! Haven't been here on the board in a while.

Calma! First I heard you hadn't been well. Glad you're better!

But on topic: I have a lot of favorite things, edible and otherwise. The mention of English muffin pizzas reminded me of my mother making them back in the '60s. I wouldn't mind doing that again.

I'm with you on having the whole cat/kitten! Cats have been my favorite animal since I was a toddler, I think.

Foods: probably way too many to mention, but let's start with fruit. Blueberries are at the top of the list! Other berries and cherries are not far behind, along with oranges. In fact I like most every fruit I've tried, except melon (watermelon is good though). Desserts: most pies, be they fruit or custard or whatever. Key lime and pumpkin are right up there. Apple should be as well, if they taste like my mother's, but I'm still trying to get it right... When it comes to entrees, though, I'm at the mercy of my whim.

I love Christmas and Halloween, I love autumn leaves and spring flowering shrubs and trees, I love rainy days when I don't have to go anywhere, I love freshly fallen snow when I don't have to go anywhere.

I love reading and writing and doing word puzzles and computer puzzle games and jigsaw puzzles. I love lots of different kinds of music (I might enumerate at another time).

And I love message boards like this one, which I really need to visit often once again; I've been lazy for too long. :)

I know that from personal experience...
I believe I was wrapped in virtual duct-tape soon after joining TORC. I felt very nervous at the time, like I was an outsider, but this forum has since become one of my favorite things as well.

A late entry for the favorite things......

Low humidity. :D

For the past couple of days it's been clear, warm and dry, but NOT humid.

I really like it when I can just open windows, turn on my ceiling fans, and enjoy the nice breeze coming in, and I DON'T have to run that power-eating air conditioner. :D :D

High electric bills are NOT one of my favorite things! :x

Thanks! I'm pretty good - it's really hot and excruciatingly humid where I live, and the weather hasn't been too pleasant these last couple of days, but I'm not letting the weather get me down: I've got a July 4th weekend to look forward to! And then I've got my mother's birthday coming up, so we're going to get the family together to celebrate. All is well. Hope everybody is doing well and having fun - Happy Canada Day!

And for those wanting to stay cool... Storm leaves several feet of hail on Guadalajara, Mexico.

One
of my favorite things
was visiting and sadly not living in
Washington,
meeting
an impromptu
lovely gathering of TORCers there...Do you see me waving hi?

But it was
the Starbuck's restaurant
my first Starbuck's
enjoying ambiance,
rather than the coffee.
(which was good!)
I felt as if I had
...come home.
The warm aromas,
the tasty snacks,
a complimentary goodie,
an engagingly intelligent
conversation...
all in the bustling quietness of
Snohomish!
It is my own Tintern Abbey
where I, Keats-like,
drift to a day
I savour
returning to in memory
when I hear
certain snatches
of music,
smell
oatmeal bars,
crush
pine-needles,
and walked beneath
such ancient
pine, pine, pine.
They are the nouns
for the verb I feel.

Blessings
Parm :-)
Loved that day.
I love the worldI am in...

July, July, July......what to do for July....

Can't think, brain numb, inspiration Won't come.....

No idea. I'd go dance with the banana but the high humidity is back, and it's far too hot for such things. :D

This morning Calma passed away in her sleep.
I know you all know she was not in the best health
but she didn't want to worry everyone so didn't tell
you what was wrong with her.
She had stage 6 breast cancer diagnosed 8 years ago.
Also it had gone to her bones and spine so she wasn't able to walk
in the end.

Sorry to spring this to you all suddenly but she was a very private person in many ways
and didn't like a fuss made over her.

She was my best friend in the whole world.

Oh my goodness. I knew something was wrong.

Calma was the best. She almost always called shotgun on a new TVM thread.

:(

Sable, please let us know of any family wishes. I am so sorry I never got to meet her in person.

Oh no....I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry. Calma was so sweet, and she loved us all so much - I can't tell you how much I enjoyed coming on here and seeing one of her posts. They always made me smile. She meant so much to this community: she meant so much to me, and I've never even met her. I only joined this group a year ago, and already I felt like I knew her so well, like she was a close friend. I'm heartbroken by this news.
Rest in Peace, Calma, Crazy-Cat-Lady. I'm so grateful that I got to know you, even if for only a short while.

So go say hello.
We haven't had many noobs lately, you know. :D

This post is something very special to me: I didn't see it when she initially posted it, all the way back in August, but when I did (a month or so later) I felt touched - I felt welcomed and accepted, and it made me realize just how special this place is. How special it is to be part of something like this. I can't express to you how...how honored I felt, reading that for the first time, and how honored I still feel, reading it again. Thank you, Calma.

Forgive me for posting twice in a row. I just - I had to try and put into words what I'm feeling. This news is really hard to take in.

So very sorry to hear about the loss of our dearest Calma. :( I knew she wasn't well but not that sick.

She leaves a big hole that will never be filled in the TVM and our hearts. (Can't fix that with our magic duct tape.) I am glad she spent so much of her precious time here in the TVM. :grouphug:
