Would you be wearing any of these with your shirts?

It's raining here. I need a hawaiian print umbrella!

It's also friday and having rained all day that means garage sales won't have done very well so I am definetly going to have to hope it doesn't rain tomorrow and then I'll reap the rewards of the rain.

sits next to SPD with a cold Hard Lemonade in her hand to wait out the rest of the work day....

Good luck with the yard-selling today, Inny!!!

Inny skipped the saling. The bed felt so nice I didn't get out of it until close to nine, which, as we all know is so late that the only things left are warped tupperware lids, bell bottoms and leg warmers. Maybe a Jane Fonda workout video on Betamax, if you're lucky.

Instead, we got a new TV for twenty five dollars (our last died while still covered by extended warranty), discovered that there's a big anntenae hidden in our attic that gives reception good enough for even the cable addicted and took the dog to the dog park.

I ended up walking three miles, which for a woman shaped like a hobbit not accustomed to long journeys is very similar to Sam and Frodo's first day's journey.

What?!!

You passed up bell-bottoms?

We need those to make costumes for The Teddies! Now we'll have to think up something new before we go on tour.

Also, it's comforting to know where all the tupperware lids go. Can I find a stash of unmatched socks at garage sales too?

That is too bad, Tooks, for I had so hoped to see you in a grass skirt. :o

IE, may I freshen up that hard lemonade for you? I could use a walk like that: these days I look more like Fatty Bolger than a hobbit fresh from a brisk walk to Mordor.

Weather here was mostly sunny, though cool, over the weekend. Grilled out Saturday and Sunday, doing my bit to keep cows and hogs from overpopulating the earth. :o

SPD, you're so globally minded :D Yes, of course, I'd LOVE more hard lemonade! We went looking for it at Price Club's liquor store this weekende and they didn't carry it :( I wasn't so thirsty as to look anywhere else though. Was just a whim.

You know I completely forgot about the Teddies outfits. I'm SURE I'll find good stuff this weekend. Cowboy is at a 'conference' for something for work (I put the quotation marks because it's being held at Dave and Busters... how much actual work is going to get done, hmmmmm?) and it's just me and the Lil Evils.

I'll let you know what I find.

Walking was painful yesterday which leads me to decide that I'm repeating the dog park experience every weekend from now on.

I was just hinking the other day that now would be a very bad time to float my fanny down the Susquehanny.

But apparently it's a good day to double-post. :D:D:D

The Susquehanny didn't flood badly this time around. Still muddy though.

Might be stinky too. I was down near the Swatara Creek the other day and it had some post-flooding sinkiness to it. :P

I must drag da Wench back in here...

Da wench is here. :D

There was a lot of flooding up in the NY state head waters of the Susquehanny last week....wouldn't want my fanny in that, no uh uh.

Hey....we've had two days of dry weather! Whoa!

Hey....its very soon to be county fair time....but I'm not looking forward to it. Bad fair experience last year....I'm still bitter. I may have to sucker a friend into taking my kids......

Gamgee Wench said "Bad fair experience"

That implies there is such thing as a good rair experience. Sorry but carnival people scare me almost as much as clowns do.

Feel free to send some of that rain out here. My lawn can certainly use it these days. No rain worth talking about at our house in weeks.

Hey, you can get fun food at fairs.
True, not stuff you'd want to eat everyday......

I don't believe Wenchie ever elaborated on this bad experience. I must quiz her on it sometime. 8)

Yes, Wenchie, do tell about the bad experience. Did some unconscionable vendor serve food that wasn't deep fried and on a stick? :o

Had my first funnel cake of the season just a couple of weeks ago, at a carnival that my parish put on. Mmmmmmmmmmm....good.

Careful, nl darlin', just reading a description can give you a heart attack. :)

It's basically batter poured through a funnel (hence, the name) into hot grease and fried to a crisp (see helpful photo below).

Image

And then served up hot with powdered sugar sprinkled top. Do you mean you don't have this delectable treat where you live?

Oh Tooks....you must get NL a funnel cake while she is here. There are many near you. :)

One last post before I turn off the computer for a week or so and run away on vacation.....

My bad fair experience involved a very hot day, an already pissy mood, and a horrible brat teenager. We had taken the kids to the fair, a friend of mine and I, and we had gone through all the exhibits and such....many llama's and chickens. So we decided to take the kids on a few rides before we left....big mistake.

While the older kids were on a ride....my daughter decided to ride those swings that go around in a big circle. Well, while she was riding we were standing near by. I suddenly felt something land on the top of my head....and I looked up to see a teenage girl with a pink shirt on smirking at me as the swings went around. I knew what had happened but I truly couldn't believe it.....so I asked my friend to look in my hair....and she freaked..... and screamed.....

Someone SPIT IN YOUR HAIR!!!!!

I was absolutely disgusted....but we used our water bottles and rinsed it out as best possible. My friend is a wonderful lady, but don't get her pissed. Well, I told her who I thought it was that did it and she took matters into her own hand...and confronted the girl as she got off the ride. The girl did the "get out of my face lady " routine, which is all it took to set her off...and she tore up one side of her and down the other. I know I should have been doing it....but she did such a good job, I just let her go at it. The girl finally just gave her the finger and told her there was nothing we could do.....to which my friend informed her that every fair personnel would know who she was....as she would inform them that the girl with the pink shirt with "#1 Princess" on it in bright red sequins is a trouble maker and to be watched....
And...we spent the next ten minutes talking to fair personel doing just that...( they could have cared less but my friend was on a mission so I went along)

My son looked at me and asked...."would this be the wrong time to ask to go on another ride?" .... I delivered "the look" and he promptly said..."didn't think so". I took a long hot shower as soon as I got home....*shudder*

SO....... I don't want to go near any stupid fairs this year....but I probably will.

OK...time to wake up the family and go away! To the beach!!!! 8)

Ha, ha, yes, they do give off that initial impression, but one bite and you'll be a convert for life. Yes, Tooks, I echo Wenchie: get nl a funnel cake when she's here. :)

Ah...Wenchie. Some folks kids are absolute brats.

As for the funnel cakes...no problem. Maybe while you're there we can find some about? Labor day weekend...the Kipona festival will be going on in Harrisburg. Gotta be funnel cakes there!

We always called them "elephant ears" Hmmmm. Nice big piece of goodness. Then I visited a friend in Massachusets and saw a booth selling the same thing that had a more "technically correct" name....FRIED DOUGH.

Still tasty. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

See Gamgee Wench confirms my fear that most of the people found at fairs/carnivals in the words of Buckaroo Banzai are “Evil PURE AND SIMPLE by way of the Eighth Dimension!

These carnival/fair creatures use their powerful mind control powers to somehow get normally clear thinking people to eat food they would not normally consider eating.
