I think I missed that part... how is Frosty evil? :)

 Now I'll be analyzing my favorite Christmas specials all night while I watch them. I finally got most of them on DVD. I haven't watched Rudolph in about six years! :)

Lithtaur16.... it's a personal thing. I've always disliked the animation in Frosty, the story is weird and well....I just really don't like Frosty. I guess Evil is a strong word for the likes of a snowman, but doesn't he look evil? Just a bit?

But don't let my opinion rain on your parade....I'm married to a Frosty lover. (blech) Actually, my husband loves all the Christmas specials, so I'm a victim of Frosty, Frosty returns (double blech) and I even think there is a new one, but I refused to even let my eyeballs glance at it.

Now go watch that Rudolph Disk!! :D

The Rudolph special is by definition terrible because it is claymation. I hate claymation. :( *shudder*

No for twisted stuff you are thinking of the other great creative team of Sid and Marty Krofft. I know GW has issues with giant puppets. I dont think the Krofft brothers ever did a Christmas show.

Did watch Charlie Brown Christmas this week. Need to find when Grinch is on. A new Muppet Christmas is on next Wednesday. Another great Christmas Special is Pee-Wees Playhouse Christmas special! Hope I can find that on TV some place or will just have to watch it on YouTube.

I agree. I can't stand Frosty Returns either. I don't know why they include it in DVD's with Frosty the Snowman, as it isn't part of the R-B canon, or the real sequel to Frosty. The real sequel is called Frosty's Winter Wonderland, which is worlds better. The R-B canon consists of:

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
Santa Claus is Coming To Town
Frosty's Winter Wonderland
Rudolph's Shiny New Year
Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July

Incidentally, I watched Frosty again tonight and noticed that R-B likes killing off its reindeer. In Rudolph, Santa goes off with six reindeer, plus Rudolph. In Frosty, he only has four. In the last, Christmas in July, he has only one. Maybe Santa has taken a liking for venison, instead of the purple steaks Mrs. Santa keeps trying to feed him.

Had to bump this thread back up. I watched Rudolph tonight, and the elf tossed that poor bird off the sleigh...again! Some poor kid is going to be traumatized when he comes down the stairs to find only a red pancake of blood and feathers under the tree instead of the bird he wanted. And a hole in the roof.

Hey I came here to bump this thread and see some smart people already beat me. I watched Rudolph last night (Grinch was on a few nights ago). And the bird bombing.

By the way a Christmas special that is perhaps as good as those others you can now watch online. Go over to http://peewee.com/ and see the Pee Wee Herman Christmas special. Its list of guest stars rivals that of a good episode of Love Boat, and yes Charo is on there. Laugh at Floory as he asks Miss Yvonne to stand over him. What a dirty floor.

I love you nutty people…..

I didn’t watch it, just wasn’t up to the humble bumble last night and had to get some typing done. So….when my husband (who of course watched it) came downstairs and exclaimed “he did it again!” I didn’t know what the heck he was on about…..then he told me that the bird went dive bombing to his death again. I then knew…..and on it goes.

They are using the island of misfit toys in a cell phone commercial now! It will never go away……

(and Durin, I'll give Randy the link to that....he would love to see the Pee Wee Christmas special, since at one time that was our favorite Sat. morning show)

As much as I like the optimism shown here, I really think at this point the expectation that it might have different ending is rather unrealistic. I think he will have another 40 years of disappointment if when he watches it every year to hope that maybe this time the bird will not be thrown to its death.

Remember, it's only a movie. It was a stunt double bird falling into a huge air mattress just out of camera range so no misfit toys were harmed in filming that particular sequence.

No they didn't. It was a form of confrontational therapy. They figured that by tossing the bird overboard without an umbrella or parachute then the bird would be forced sprout his developmentally stunted wings in an effort to fly and save himself. Every miraculous scientific breakthrough has its collateral damage

One time, and one time only, I saw a Verizon commercal that showed an iPhone on the Island of Misfit toys. The toys are confused, because the iPhone looks cool. But then it popped up that little map that shows how little coverage it has, and the toys said things like "Oh, yes." or "I understand."

Nasty but effective.

I once saw one video, I think it was on You Tube somewhere, where Rudolph sued Santa and the reindeer for discrimination and took over the North Pole. What would happen nowadays.
