Parm's Pleasant Pondering Place:Settling into Summer

Just as Tolkien and the Inklings used to meet at The Bird and the Baby, come in here to converse about whatever might be on your mind. This is the place for all off-topic conversation.

Ah, Calgary; Ah Spring!

Visiting to conquer insomnia
Saw IrisBrandybuck's charming post...
touched by the kindness of it,
sat down to write for a while...

Southward watching billowed clouds
sweep across the thirsting plains,
missing schools, avoiding parks,
drenching fields with blesséd rains...
that is what I yearn to see,
that is what I yearn to tell,
that is what we long to have...
but here? We know the story well.
Rain will fall, and snow may, too,
hail might come...it has before...
all within an hour's time...
maybe less or maybe more...
but it shall come and with it...spring...
the kind that comes quite late in May
the kind that comes with lilac blooms
that blesses us Queen Vicky Day.
I see the clouds and feel the winds...
not breezes! No...a hue and cry,
that snaps off twigs and flips off hats,
escaping into laughing sky.
Ah, Calgary! Ah vagrant spring...
oh how we love this spiteful thing!

Blessings,
Parm :)
Hooray for the joys of June!

Upon a Midnight Storm

Postby prmiller » Thu Jun 01, 2017 11:27 pm

I felt the air grow cold and fill with wind,
the moon-bright clouds dim down with deep'ning dark,
I wonder who around me gravely sinned
that skies are lightning bright, and angered, spark.
It is not merely thunder rolling on,
it is the stuff of dramas and suspense,
for now the darkness drowns the hope of dawn
while we, all shuddered, seek some recompense.
Oh storm! You break our gift of rest with noise,
to leave us wide-eyed, fearing in our beds;
for us, there are no other gifts nor joys
to free us fearing wrath upon our heads.
Yet just as swiftly all your rage is spent;
and waft to us a gift of floral scent.

Blessings,
Parm :)
Hooray for the joys of June!

The Pines are Gilded Glories

Postby prmiller » Fri Jun 02, 2017 8:44 pm

The pines are gilded glories
as evening sun dips down,
the cones in upper branches
are gems upon each crown;
their are raised in praising,
they point to heaven's realm,
the pines are gilded glories,
without a sword or helm.

The pines waft scents of freshness
upon the cooling breeze
that sway the branches dancing
applauded by the leaves;
their arms are raised in gladness
as twilight briefly gleams,
and I shall join them shortly
to dance with them in dreams.

Blessings,
Parm :)

A choice! A choice! Yes, I rejoice!

Postby prmiller » Fri Jun 02, 2017 8:53 pm

Tookish_Traveler tells me: "lJune is 'your choice of beverage' month!!!!! Mine may change daily."

I am inspired...

Milk? No, tea...no guava juice!
With ice cream dipped inside!
Coffee...iced...with caramel...
Oh! I cannot decide!
So set each holy hour...
for matins, bring me tea!...
be blessed with beverage bounty
(not only one with "B").
I'll sip some apple cider
when I complete compline,
and sigh with warming cocoa,
when it is vespers time.
For nones, I shall have coffee
and lauds, well, water's fine
as long as it comes flavoured
with fruits that taste like wine.
Oh, happy day and and glory!
I shall enjoy each day,
to sample nature's bounty
each time I stop to pray!

Blessings,
Parm :)
Hooray for the joys of June!

Twilight Tea

Postby prmiller » Mon Jun 05, 2017 9:02 pm

IrisBrandybuck wrote:Tea...that sounds like a wonderful idea. :hug:

We watch the golden air diffuse
into much gentler shades of blue;
sip melancholy watching pines
grow darker green with hue on hue.
We savour blends of well-steeped tea
and smile contented at the sky,
which slowly pinks and purples now,
while out of shadows squirrels lope by.
Braver now, jackrabbits dart
from out of sheltering bush and limb,
above, glint stars of diamond light;
below, the sounds of traffic dim.
We do not speak, but warmly smile,
and like the tea, infuse our thoughts
into the warmth that slowly falls,
and sigh contented for these spots.

Ah, tea.

Blessings,
Parm :)

Good evening, Parm! Or morning, or afternoon! You have a lovely sig pic. It makes me imagine either a hobbit dwelling, or the empty tomb of Jesus. (Apologies if you are not of a religious/Christian inclination.)

A Child of the Empty Tomb

Your apology actually inspired me to write this:

I will not walk to monuments
to offer sacrifices there;
for traces of the One I love
are found instead in fiery air.
The cloven flame, the wonder-wind,
the hymns that burst from heaven's breath
could not have come had Death not died:
I am a child of Life from Death.

Do not believe I shall enshrine
the lack of life inside that tomb;
no bones I seek, no shards, no shroud,
but rather seek that Upper Room.
I live instead by unbought grace,
gold now for dross that fires consume;
thus old is gone, the new has come:
His grave became my new-life's womb.

I follow now a narrow path,
which sometimes seems a lonely road;
gone are my griefs of what I was,
gone is that unseen, loathsome load.
I bear instead the burdened prayer,
the weight of glory in rough clay,
and all because of Cross and Grave
and that great stone...now rolled away.

Blessings,
Parm :)
...and no apology necessary.
It was an honour to respond to this!
Hooray for the joys of June!

Storm Breaking

Postby prmiller » Fri Jun 16, 2017 8:56 pm

Wind
sharp-scented
swirls through shutters and screens
light
brief-bent
cracks across air and cloud
sound
tone-challenged
resonates into class and home
helpless we
against
such wind
such light
such sound
yet
windows still resist
roofs still protect
walls still stand
why then
fear
at storm breaking?

Enjoy,
Parm :)
Hooray for the joys of June!

About That Parm

Postby prmiller » Wed Jun 21, 2017 9:43 pm

Lalaith-Elerrina wrote:Parm is such a friendly dude.

While sharing gifts in guild and hall;
Parm does not seem to mind at all
that folk may write, "Oh! I've been Parmed,"
for none who see that are alarmed.
No! Parm, much like the concertina,
charming Lalaith-Elerrina,
finds when he is stretched or stressed,
writes those rhymes that he loves best.
So though Parm wanders here and there
and near some hearth, may find a chair,
is fond of pastry, toast and tea,
is grateful for some levity,
look to find him when one's grief,
needs a word of rhymed relief,
when events come round to cheer,
Parm may come and standing near,
to leave a post to celebrate
and tell you, gladly, "You are great!"
So this is what I know of Parm
who chooses whimsy, joy, and charm,
to brighten, lighten, and inspire,
and doze a bit by cheering fire.

Blessings,
Parm :)
