Class of 2000?

Just as Tolkien and the Inklings used to meet at The Bird and the Baby, come in here to converse about whatever might be on your mind. This is the place for all off-topic conversation.

Class of 2000?

Postby RavenTinuviel » Sat Apr 03, 2004 2:15 am

we are the baaadest class really.
I mean really so many of the names unmentionable are from our class.

Edit: I see this thread has lived well past the critically drunk night when I posted it. I was well on my way to trouble that night when suddenly torc went down and I could not connect anymore after posting this. I did not even know this thread actually posted at the time. I did manage to cause alot of trouble over on the house of black that night though. :P

Good to see this is used as a 'reunion' thread of sorts.
:)

You know all this thread needs is a few rocking chairs and a few glasses of ice cold lemmon aid to sip on. Perhaps we could get some newbies to wait on us <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Another class member pops in (or should I say shuffles <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>). <BR><BR>Hello my fellow geezers. I am glad a few of us have stuck around to keep this site on its toes and keep all the young 'uns in line and in awe of our wisdom and superiority <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>.<BR><BR>I've noticed that with ROTK's theatre run winding down, there seems to be a return to people wanting to read the books and discuss the written "text" more again. Reminds me of my earlier years (2000-2001)here on this site when most of our "talk" was about the wonderful books and how much we hoped they would include in the movies. I'm reading LOTR for the first time since 2000 and I'm struck by how much (like 95 percent or something) that PJ left out of the movies, yet still made them wonderful for us fans. <BR><BR>When all is said and done, there's still a few things I wish he hadn't left out or changed, but I am chiefly thrilled that he took all of us seriously enough to always veer back to Tolkien's vision even if the Johnny-come-latelies didn't "get" why certain things were included. I love every little extra thing PJ put in for the book fans like the "short cut to what? mushrooms!", Sam and Smeagol's little scene about the po-ta-toes <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> and Aragorn's song at the cornation that was not interpreted for the masses, but meant so much to us fans and Elrond's "I gave hope to man" from Aragorn's mother's dying words (no one else would have gotten the reference) to the final "I'm back" by Sam. <BR><BR>It has been such a thrill to see "our little movies" embraced so wonderfully by the masses and bring so many to appreciate Tolkien. Our geekdom has been validated at last. Validation was really the least of the thrills over the past four years - one of the greatest thrills has been getting to know fellow fans from all over the world and even meeting some of them in person.<BR><BR>OK, the "sentimental" Hero has waxed eloquent long enough and sits back down in her rocker for some lemonade, "Hey you noobie over there - can you bring me a tall glass with a cookie on the side?" <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

You know I sure do miss a lot of the missing members of the "Class of 2000". A really fine group. I am glad that so many have stuck around. But you know what? Over the last 6 months or so, there have been a good amount of quality people that have joined. I really think TORC is experiencing something like it did way back when. Maybe a last gasp, I don't know, but I really think the place has improved greatly of late. Hopefully this trend will continue. And you can keep that nasty old lemonade. I need something a little stronger. Perhaps one of my footpads will come by and bring me something with a little bite.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Now, now, we can't have anyone biting your "footpads", can we? Thank you for this thread, Eldar Princess... I just might bite your "footpad", but, at 5 foot and 100 lbs, you prolly would beat me sense-less! Wouldn't mind giving it a try 'though.

All the good old days....picking toe jam, eating ridiculously large sandwiches, the occasional whipping....Yup, 2000 was a mighty fine year.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
