Apprentice Bard Auditions Thread II - Post Your ABC's Here

Postby erinhue » Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:50 am

The Grand High Mystic Society for the Preservation of the Bardic Traditions has opened its membership rolls and will be accepting applications for entry level enrolment as an Apprentice Bard

To become a member of the Bard's Guild post an ABC poem here(See the thread for examples from past auditions)

The poem should be in an ABC format where the first word of each line or stanza begins with succeeding letters of the alphabet. The theme or subject of such poems should be concerning the life of a bard or some clearly Tolkien based topic.

Post the completed poem in the Audition thread where it will be reviewed by the Guild admissions board and approved by the guildmaster. Upon such approval and acceptance the candidate becomes an Apprentice Bard awaiting induction.

Other info includes:

A is for Apprentice
It's really not hard
Post your ABC's
And you'll be a bard

Just a sample example. See the original "So Ya Wanna Be A Bard" or the "Son of So Ya Wanna Be A Bard" for more. Anything other than Tolkien-based subjects should see the Guild Master first.

AS POSTED BY JUDY A ON AUGUST 16,2009:

Hue - here is my ABC for your perusal:

A is for apple, which Sam flicked at Ferny;
B is for Bill, a long-suffering pony.
Caradhras sits back and smiles in the sun;
D is for Durin, the dwarves’ deathless one.

Eowyn fights fiercely, her brave heart undaunted;
F is for Fangorn, whose forest ain’t haunted.
Galadriel overcame pride and her failings.
H is for Harlond, to which ships came sailing.

Isildur’s choice changed the fate of the Ring:
Jools might be cool, but they ain’t everything.
Kheled-zaram in the starlight was pretty,
Legolas came from the wood, not the city.

Meduseld is the high house of Theoden
Nine were the walkers and riders in Tolkien
O is for Oldbuck and Ori and Oin, while a
Palantir showed Strider where Corsairs were goin’.

Q is for Queen Beruthiel’s kitties;
Rammas is what encircled a city.
Sam was a gardener, warrior and poet;
Tom was a Maiar, but only I know it.

Underhill didn’t work well as a name.
V is for Varda, star-queen of acclaim.
Women gave WiKi a run for his money,
X is so hard that it just isn’t funny.

Yrch always sounds like a whacking great spit,
Zirak-zigil… and I reckon that’s it.

You guys are sweet. Thanks for the welcome. :)

So what bardish things does one do now? Should I ditch the sensible shirts and trousers for ye olde vests, white rustic shirt, braces, a hat with a feather and an instrument slung on my back?

Ooooh what a picture that would be!!

No no that is not necessary but you might start working on a new poem for the Bard's Festival we will have going the end of next month or October. We are going for a LoTR Character type topic. So pick a character that you love from the books or movies and get to work. It will be great fun!!!

Erinhue will start the festival and let everyone know in the Bards Guild where to find the festival and then we all start a bit of light RP and introduce ourselves coming to the festival. The when you are ready to post your poem you can step up to the stage and the mic and submit it for his and everyone's pleasure. I do hope you will plan on attending cause everyone knows

IT'S GOOD LUCK TO BUY A BARD A BEER!!!

JudyA, very cute that!! ;)

Bards come in all flavors, shapes, sizes and humor. Some are darker, some are very light and clever. Please post up in the Bards Guild thread and hang with us, that is always cool too.

And, I look forward to RP with you at the next festival. Or if you like RP and would like to start on a new adventure, this forum is the place to start. I have an RP lite going right now that can be jumped into easy enough. I am not promoting, but I do try to encourage folks who are interested to get those creative juices out and down for all time and eternity, or at least as long as this site lasts. :D

Huzzah!! Congrats to JudyA for becoming our newest Apprentice Bard! Good job there.

:D

I'm looking forward to this Festival as well, it's been ages since I've been able to participate in one and with all the new members, it's going to be like old times again.

JudyA, don't you worry you'll do fine and fit right in, no matter what you're wearing. I happen to know one very chubby monk that will buy a lady a beer even if she's dressed in bearskins . . . LOL.

As forward the feet trod
Barren ground left behind
Cares swept away with the wind
Daylight warms his face
Everbringing that happy song
Forgotten stories he knows
Gladdening the hearts of children
Happy endings to them all
Ingratiating him to lords and ladies
Jesting he does not
Kinder people were never known
Living with the road always travelling
Men gladden at his spectre
Never shy from his grace
Open doors with glee
Put aside worries and care
Quests for more tales
Reading old texts
Seeking new places to be
The Bard always drinks for free
Under sun or shade
Voraciouisly onward seeking new stories or old
Wherever he travels
Xenephobic he cannot be
Young or old all come to see
Zephyr at his back the bard is always free

Welcome to the boards, Lanastus :lol: This is some fine work, there is a fresh feeling about the structure. Excellent. It is my great pleasure to welcome you into the Grand High Mystic Society for the Preservation of the Bardic Traditions, also know simply as the Bards' Guild.

Since I am so slow about things these days you have a unique opportunity.

The current Bards' Festival has not yet closed. The theme was to RP yourself as the apprentice bard preforming a poem/song that is either about a chosen LOTR character or something clearly coming from that specific character's point of view.

There is no requirment that you participate, This wonderful audition is enough to get ya in the door. Participating/Performing at Festivals is the way one moves up in rank within the guild. Come on down to the Alliances and Guilds forum, clickity click on our thread in there and we'll talk :wink:

one thing I love about poetry you have Traditional form, or original. The latter often makes people uncomfortable but given enough time or appreciation for the art they will come to accept it.

:? Ahhhh you need to make a second attempt, why? This does just fine for me. I told you there was an infinite number of ways to use the ABC format and you found yet another.

Congratulations, you are now an Apprentice in the (debatably) oldest guild on TORC, The Bards' Guild. Nice Job. :wink:
