OOC: The Pale Road to Laketown and to Final Farewells

Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

OOC: The Pale Road to Laketown and to Final Farewells

Postby Bardhwyn » Mon Jan 21, 2013 4:53 am

This is a thread intended to give writers a chance to post and describe the life events of characters affected by the momentus events occuring in the Mithril Knight thread - and also to prepare characters for the Memorial thread and the commemoration of Dirk, The Daring.

Thereby, once our memorial begins, those characters attending (well, mine for one) will be able to attend fully (or in other words, I will not bore you with backstory! - I'll bore you here, instead.) :)

Post as you will! Role-play if you like! Bring your characters up to speed. Use this space - there are many of us interested in reading! Truly!

Don't be shy!

The Battle is raging, real time; which force shall prevail? The forces of good? The forces of evil? When shall it end? How will the message travel that a brave Mithril Knight has lost his life so that his comrades may, hopefully, emerge victorious?!

It is wonderful to see you all, writing, playing...

:TORC:

First titled 'As The Battle Rageth' while the Mithril Knights culminated their battle with the dragon.
Then titled 'As The Battle Wanes' for the time shortly after the battle was won.

Titled thereafter 'The Pale Road to Laketown and to Final Farewells' as the thread contained tales of those who traveled to the Memorial of Dirk the Daring - an event that is everlasting - as long as there are stories yet to tell.

I'll be with you shortly. Would it be okay to copy across some of my stuff from wordpress or is that going to get confusing if we (and others?) are posting all over the place.

I, for one, hope you do! There are many who have no knowledge of your wordpress site who deserve a chance to read about your lovely (and beloved) character! :D

Edit to add: Let's coordinate the letter postings, Leoba - so they're chronological?

Always loved your writing ;) :)
I don't know how likely it is for eari to be there but if she were that probably would be to offer support to Leoba as she did not know Dirk that much (only recalling meeting him at that one festival I think)

That's definitely a good reason for eari's writer since I believe in standing by friends in hard times but I have to get my timelines straight.

Keeping timelines straight, huh? Well ya do and ya don't have to do that. All depends. Since the battle does indeed rage ( there's the wind up, The pitch.........) I am a little torn on how to play. The Bard is clearly in the battle and I wouldn't have it any other way Erinhue is going to get a message about the memorial and all in a totally different setting and situation. Hmmm....wait.... Just thought of a way to sync up the two concepts...Nevermind

I think, Hue, you sort of exemplified the dilemma many of us face. We are an imaginative bunch and we have used our imaginations liberally, so yes, timelines are a challenge.

I think its really up to each writer/ character (or if a little clutch of writer / characters choose to band together) to decide how to approach the problem - how to maneuver their character through the amalgamations.

No one can impose THE timeline, or THE right chronology onto the Memorial event for all participants; that would be impossible - and no fun, really.

I'm going to hang loose to it all, but, for the sake of my own needs, I've decided to knit a direction for my character - it happens to coincide with a few other's writers and their ideas and hey! we're bouncing ideas of one another, spurring each other on. It's fab!

I imagine it (our storytelling) will be like seeing/reading something through a kaliedescope - lots of angles, lots of great story telling. If my character manages to interact with another character using a different angle, my tack will be to have Bardy say 'Oh, I don't remember that; please remind me what happened...' and more lovely story telling will hopefully ensue.

Loose, fun... again, so great to see people writing, playing...

We've always managed to work stories out before, despite sometimes conflicting character pasts. There no reason why this should be a problem. I can't see why Erinhue cannot be the Chief Bard who presided over festivals as well as a Mithril Knight. the two aren't incompatible.

However, I (and I think Bardy too) am more comfortable once I've got everything straight in my own head and know exactly what has gone before. Erinhue, you'll be pleased to know that that has meant re-reading at lot of the MK story (especially the bits that went up around the time my son was born and which I don't remember reading AT ALL  )

It's so good to be writing again. :horse:

"Oh, I don't remember that, tell me what happened..."

I'll have to remember that one, Bardy. Always useful to have a response when you've no idea what the other author is thinking.

'Hue, I bet we could come up with something slightly plausible in the MK's which would allow Tongue Erinhue to hear the news somewhere besides the battlefield. We have made it tough, with several of us describing having knowledge of his passing, but it's manageable.

Thank ya muchly, Guru but I got it covered. The whole thing dovetails with what is going on with The Bard in the MK story line and more in keeping with my ideas for the memorial.... but first the battle

Edit to Add:

Ok, I've put up some character stuff for Bardhwyn in the WtBR thread; it's a document about Bardhwyn written by an insatiably curious Royal Scribe in Dale with a bit of a Bardhol fixation.

:)

Oh look: there's more! :D

Now I have a little problem. The next bit of writing is Leoba (and Bardy) finding out about the Doleful Demise of Dirk the Daring (henceforth referred to as the DDDTD). But this is all based on the assumption that the MKs win the battle, kill the dragon and discover Dirk's body. :'( I will keep writing but suspect it may be presumptuous to post on TORC bits of story that post-date where the Mithril Knights have currently got to.

Your thoughts please good people of the Pony?

Methinks the outcome will not be any different from what you foresee, Leoba. It does seem a bit anachronistic to post something about events that have not yet occurred in board time. It might be best to hold off for now....though I'm not sure how long you shall gave to wait for our grand finale...

I can hold off posting here. In the meantime, there are other places to post and collaborate and share. ;) But in my mind's eye, Culanir is tearing down the Minas Tirith-Pelargir road with the terrible news (I have already about written the day before). It will have to spill out through my keyboard soon I think.

And I have a dwarf to create for another project as well. So I shall not be idle.

Just hoping the MKs don't take months. I'm all raring to go and by Spring I shall not have time. :(

We may even post it here - makes most sense to. The only critical bit is that you kill the dragon, win the fight, get the body to Esgaroth in which you have indicated that my crystal ball gazing is correct. Do all that and it will tie in. We probably have many many words to pour out before you get there anyway.

Waiting on me :Q OK but are you sure? Left to my own devices my next bit is to just go ahead and start killing the darn thing. I was hoping Claymore, D'Jazi's author would show up for this. I agree with Guru/Anorast's lead that 'Hue and D'jazi are to kill the dragon together, sort of a one two punch. I know how I'm gonna finish it off and I could write D'jazi taking part but I don't know the character well enough to do him any justice in what will be an important part of the beasties' demise...not ta mention what it will do for the character's standing and advancement in the MK's

As you all well know, my :cavetroll: ego is big enough to just go on and write the slaying, but in the true spirit of RP I just don't feel right doing it without everyone's full approval.
