OOC – The Gathering Storm - Celebrating 4 years

Postby Barad-dur » Sat Feb 10, 2001 7:22 pm

In response to a request by roninscott2, I am making it clear that the thread "The Gathering Storm" is open to one and all. It would become boring quickly if we had no opposition and it seems roninscott2 is wanting to take up the banner of the Eldar cause.

Feel free to join in, friend, but as you guessed, I would like for a few more of my Mordor compatriots to contribute to the unfolding story first.

Thanks for your interest and feel free to post comments here. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Sorry it took so long for me to post. I love the way it has started. I just added my little contribution. In a few minutes, I will post a call to the allies of Mordor in the Alliances forum. Great stuff, everybody!

Hey Soviet_Sauron, what problem with your character are you referring to? I thougth it was apparent from the roll-call that everything was cool and ready to go with you.

Let me know if you want some help fleshing out some ideas. Always happy to lend my fellow Mordorians a hand.

I like the latest, Barad-dur. But you are wrong. I have seen stranger sights in my long life. I once saw the Master become so furious with an Orc that He literally tore it a new---

...What? Family friendly? How can we kill and pillage, and keep it nice at the same time?

<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

You'll notice a reference to Benoit in that thread. If you think this might be problematic, let me know).

I don't have a problem with it, asaris. Just don't confuse the Tempest in this thread with the one in "Elbren's Challenge," cause they're different.

(This Tempest will be nastier...) <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Hello asaris, and welcome to the Gathering Storm.

I am not very familiar with the events of Elbren's Challenge except for the existence of Tempest and Roninscot2's characters. Although I would encourage contributors to the story to give free rein to their character's established personalities, continuity problems may arise between both stories as certain events will most certainly not mesh well together. I do know that some things have happened in Elbren's Challenge that would render invalid many of the current plot events of the Gathering Storm.
Thus I would ask that we would essentially start off with a more or less clean slate as far as the Gathering Storm is concerned.

Two minor points on your first post: Minas Tirith is now called Minas Anor once again, and I'm wondering about your reference to 'the threat from the blue wizard.' Anything I should know about this event?

The blue wizard reference is for the other thread, and actually I agree with the idea of keeping Elbrens Challenge separate, continuity-wise, from The Storm. It will help to keep my headaches down from trying to keep continuity straight, and that can be difficult. Just ask DC comics.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I would love too post, and i think you could always use a hobbit<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> i was thinking that the goodbodys wouldnt just send an old woman out by her self, perhaps a young took should ofer to help guide her to bree?
just let me know what you think, i dont want to screw up a great thread, by having too many people post, or take the story in a direction you guys dont want it to good. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Welcome to the fold, Samwise-JR (odd name for a Mordor type...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>)

Anyhow, feel free to join in. We are always looking for more 'bad-guys', as the main point point of this story was/is to present a more unified and stronger Mordor.

So, cmon'in and join the Dark Side as whatever you want to be... except the Dark Lord... that role will be the central mystery of this story.

Well, Gilaglar, if I understand your question correctly, there are two answers. Of course you're allowed to move characters around; if you're someone else in Minas Anor, you're welcome to say things like "That morning, Benoit met Captain X, of the Galactic Valar Squad." (Thought that specific sentence would be a little odd <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>). But large things, especially death, but maiming, disfigurement and other permanent things as well, should be checked with the person in question. In other words, don't kill Benoit without asking me first. I guess I would say, when in doubt, don't do it without asking, especially if you don't know the character. But perhaps someone here with more experience than I *cough*Tempest*cough* can answer this better.

Due to the amount of queries on the subject, I shall attempt to establish some ground rules for "The Gathering Storm" :

1 - As asaris explained, one character may not kill or seriously maim another unless both posters have agreed to this beforehand in the OOC thread.

2 - It is ok to role-play another person's character BRIEFLY (again, permission should be sought) so long as there are no major deviations in established behaviour and such outside influences are kept to a minimum. I understand that some people cannot post as often as others, and thus in the interest of allowing the story to continue, a little prodding, or 'moving' of characters is unavoidable. Maybe if you won't be around for a while, you can either 'write' yourself out of the story temporarily or tell a buddy to watch over your character.

3- As stated before, this story ignores the events of "Elbren's Challenge" or any other story thread currently in progress here at the Pony. It is ok to bring your character in from another story, but remember that you are starting fresh. To be acquainted with others is ok, but please, no references to events from other story threads.

4 - As any good novel, I prefer a lot of plot and character development before major conflicts arise and matters come to a head. I realize there is a desire for characters to meet, but given the nature of this story and its opposing ideologies, this could have potentially disastrous circumstances if it happens too soon. So please, please, take your time and do not rush to force confontrations between characters. We will all get there eventually.

5 - New posters are always welcome, but if the story starts to get too fragmented because of too many ongoing subplots, we should moderate the amount of newcomers. Hopefully this won't be a problem as the story becomes more focused.

6 - Lastly, please avoid making assumptions and/or references to events, people, or places in ME in the Fourth Age that seem a little too far-fetched. One prime example of this is the assumption that the One Ring survived. Obviously this one is ok because that IS the central theme of the story, but similar belief-stretching things such as armies of Eldar that number in the thousands, or the Valar coming to Middle-Earth will be sorely misplaced here. Lets try and use some self-control and refrain from this sort of thing. The posts have been awesome in their believability so far. Lets keep it that way! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Please feel free to post your comments. If you would like to add anything or change anything, bring the matter up so that all may discuss its merits. If there is something in the points above you strongly disagree with, please also let me know.

Thanks again for your interest in "The Gathering Storm."

Nazgul_Lord,

If you are reading this, I fear you have misread one of my first installments of the story. I said that your crown and sword were being held in a vault in Minas Anor, NOT Minas Morgul!!!!

Oh well, no way your post can be altered now without ruining it all.
I will have to go back and change my early post... and rethink all of the story that I had planned... sob sob <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

I guess this demonstrates the problems with multi-author storytelling.
