Sorry, sweetie, you forgot me! I'm a "good" and I'm in Rohan. Knowing Snowdog has just left Edoras and Naiore is heading my way soon (right?) I've been thinking about my first post and will hopefully have it done soon.

Naboo, Hanasían (Snowdog's character in this RP) left Minas Tirith as he was meeting with Aragorn and Arwen. Just thought I would clear that up. Hey, Snowdog, let me be your informant. That's the only way I can really fit into the story. Can I bump into you when you reach Dol Amroth? You can threaten to arrest me, then change your mind when you discover that I an assortment of undesirable contacts, that may help you to get any information you may want or need.

Naiore, I think I'm currently in Dol Amoroth.

Btw, my third post is due today. He's currently outside the gates of Gondor, trying to find a job. He does odd-jobbing, and he loves playing cards. Not much, I might add. And he's not in Rohan for the very reason that he has nothing there. Not that he has anything here, but at least in Gondor he can start again. I guess Jason would be a good one to interact with, 'cause Tobias doesn't want me <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>. By the way, Wycoth does not interact with everyone he meets. I guess I'll just go post my opening now.

Morphobia, may I mention that you don't seem to need an informant anyway? Hey, I don't see what you would do with someone who's a vice gang-leader. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> No offence, anyway, and well, I am getting a tad bored of repeatedly teaming up with you. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Snowdog, if you're game, meet me anytime. In a tavern, in an inn, on the roads, after a robbery, wherever.

Oh, and sorry about my long posts. All these are just her own history, if you want to know.

Btw Morphobia, you can SMS me as well. I've got a new handphone, even though it is ancient. Drop me an SMS tonite.

Morphobia, there is still on vital piece of information lacking about your character. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Your initial post was good in that it set up what your character looks like and some hints at his past. But without letting us know what your character's role in this RP will be, it is nigh to impossible for us to know how to collaborate with you.

You may not interact with all characters, but in this RP we will all be collaborating. By way of character plot, let me offer some examples.

Snowdog is playing a Ranger who is tasked with a mission of high duty by Elessar. Tempest is playing a survivor of Mordor who is looking for a new home and way of life. Ronnan is playing an elf who is hunting down his one time bethrothed to bring her to justice. I am playing a suriving Ravener, who is protecting her identity and ensuring her survival. Tobias is playing a young mortal girl, who will be of invaluable assistance to Snowdog (if he takes her up). Hamlet is playing a soldier of Mordor, displaced and searching for his way now that his previous life is lost.

There will be others who will join us as they can and they each have specified a role. There will be another elf, leading a party of his kinfolk to clean up Middle-earth. There will be an assassin. There will be a swordswoman of Rohan. There will be a man of Ithilien. There will be a "courtesan" returning from Harad, drawn by her curiosity to the north and it's new world.

In knowing this in advance, we can all sort out how we fit into the story. That means we can plan and write logically, and collaborate.

Based on all this, I'm going to ask that you hold off posting again until you know where your character falls into this story. It really important you have a clear picture of this before you progress further. We know your character is a young man, newly arrived in Gondor (which is a country name, rather than a city. Perhaps you want to refer to Minas Tirith or Dol Amroth by way of a specific location). We know that he has just gotten a job at an inn. But beyond that we know nothing of why he is present in the story, and that will be needed information so that we can plan story ideas and plots.

Also, as there are at least 3 of us I know of posting from a very different timezone to the one TORC is set to (that being 17 hours ahead of TORC time, and the culprits being Novice, Ronnan and myself), you'll need to be patient with replies to questions. Between timezone differences and real life schedules, we may not answer as quickly at you like. But fear not. We are not ignoring or forgetting you. It's better to post well when you can write the story well for your character, than to charge in simply to keep up.

Please think this over and let us know your thoughts here.

Why is Wycoth Felix in this story? What part will he play?
I am actually in the same time-zone as Morphobia, and she's my friend. (In real life). But we go online at different times, and we do discuss possible twists in the plots of the RPs both of us are in, and thus we are usually allies. But this time, I decided to bond with someone else as I wanted to try out a new experiance. I can help her out with her character development, and will reccomend her to a thread started by Leslie. It shows how to create an in-depth character, and I will be trying the methods here, with some of the greatest TORC RPers, for they can point out my mistakes if I make any.

Tobias, I'm glad you posted that.

What you talk of is what collaboration is all about. It's about working together, bouncing ideas and opinions about plots, stories and characters of each other. It's about asking question, expressing your point of view, giving and getting feedback.

It's collaboration that makes an OK story a great one. You're absolutely right in that there are a number of GREAT TORC rp'ers here. So far, everyone who has joined has shown a great talent for writing, fantastic imaginations and wondrous creativity. With this sort of writing, two heads are better than one.

So if your friend has a question or an idea or a suggestion, just like you I encourage them to post it here if it pertains to the character they're writing or the story we're all telling. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Wycoth is a travelling young man from Rohan hoping to seek his fortune and some good friends to help him along the hard times, if that is what you mean by 'why he is here'. He's a nice guy, and doesn't like trouble... And, by the way, try to refrain from calling him 'Felix' or 'Wycoth Felix'... I know a second name sounds interesting, but I would prefer you call him 'Wycoth', or 'Wy'.

Ok, preferred address for your character is noted. I have another question concern Wycoth...

How does his character fit into the overall storyline of this RP?

Is he bystander to the story, or part of it?

Likely you're sick of answering incessant questions, but this is important. You see, each character must add something to the story.

How will yours contribute? What does Wycoth bring to this RP?

Perhaps I'm a bit thick, but I don't yet see the answers to this.

You're not going to use that rusty old pair are you?!?! Come now, I know a perfectly reputable shackle and chain dealer who's having a sale this week. By two sets, get the third half price. And if that's not your flavour, I know a guy who can get you a deal on a Rack.

Ok, I finally finished my second post. Forgive my stereotyping, it sounds awefully like a Dungeons and Dragons novel, but I promise this little idiocy is going somewhere! Somewhere . . . well . . . evil.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

......... Wycoth... I haven't really planned what he'll be doing, so I guess for now he'll be a bystander until I can figure out something for him to contribute... That's cause I have to keep track of a few other RPs... So a tiny bit busy... Anyway why are all of you posting so long posts? I nearly fell asleep reading Ronnan's post. (No offence, it WAS long<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>) Explaination please? And what's up with the shackles? Is it one of your quirks?

As for Wycoth' outfit... I gad it all planned out in science...

Normal: Brown shirt, jeans torn at the knees and frayed at the legs, gray choker, gray sneakers and hair pulled back into a ponytail. Did I mention that Wycoth has long brown tresses?

Party: Brown collered shirt, long pants/jeans, gray choker, work shoes (brown), hair pulled back into a ponytail. He does not go to partys often, so he doesn't reallt worry about his party outfit... He'll get one when and if he needs it.

Hunting: Tight khaki shirt, khaki shorts, hair let loose, gray choker.

Aloha gang!!

Soon...very soon.

Naiore- How much would Jason Chase know about your personal character and Ravenors in general?

I was thinking Jason may have ran into another one of your kind while hunting you. (Oh yes, Jason will have a variety of battle scars and loves to show them off while telling war stories)...For example, IF he has met another of you, and that OTHER was a woman, he may assume that all Ravenors are women.

Please fill me in on any info I may have on YOUR character and Ravenors. Thanks.

"Remember, it's better to play with a group, than with yourself."

(Of course, that's not bad either) <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Novice, I await with the rest of us in breathless anticipation for that opening post. I look forward to seeing you join our merry number when circumstances permit it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Morphobia, heed Novice's comments. This RP is all about writing. Intricate, thought provoking, evocative writing. Detail, description and the painting of a story through words. Conveying a character's thoughts, actions and emotions requires all of this and that is what collaborative RPing is about.

I suggest that you look at expanding into detail on your character, what he's thinking, what he's feeling, how he's acting and what he is saying in the same depth that people speak of a character's appearance. It's all just as important, if not more so. Keeping Wycoth as a bystander will be important until you're able to sort out these details. You will find that once you have the central reason for the character being in the roleplay, the layers will follow from there and soon you'll have a fleshed out character. It is a process that can happen quickly or take time, but the idea has to come first for it to happen at all. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Jason, I've posted a synopsis of Naiore's character in the Character Archives thread. There should be a link posted to her on the opening page to that thread (I don't know how to do those neat "in post" link thingys and I've yet to rectify that gap in my knowledge). All Raveners are women, so Jason's assumption will be correct. As the Raveners were targetted hard by the Alliance in the immediate war, it would not be surprising that he would have encountered one before in combat. Naiore is the only one that survives of that order, and it is fervently hoped that the first and highest ranked Ravener is dead rather than still at large.

Naiore would have disclosed very little of her true identity in her previous encounter with your soldier. The defining feature of a Ravener is the braiding of their hair. The number of braids denotes rank. Naiore had 7 braids, but she removed those when things went bad for Mordor to avoid detection. On the run now, she is using her elven appearance to mask herself further. Noone expects an evil elf, and very very few know that there was an elven Ravener in the first place. Being a shame to her people, it is something they would have kept to themselves. Indeed, Raveners in general were denied until the War of th Ring, when their existence could no longer be overlooked. So Jason would know that there is an elven murderess on the run and he would know what she looked like from his encounter, but he would not know of her Ravener status for she was foiled from actually practising her craft. Her target in Ithilien was only injured, and your father she simply killed to remove him from her way.

In fact, Naiore has not practised her craft at all since the defeat of Mordor. Her priority is on concealing her identity and her continued survival from her people. That means murder is strictly business and no pleasure. She won't indulge in Ravening unless she believes it safe to do so. She's been on the run and hasn't yet found a haven to let her go in. Too many loose ends to "tie up". I hope that makes sense, but feel free to ask more questions. I like questions, as you may have guessed.

Tobias, I think we'll leave discussion of racks are in the colloquial sense for another day. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Does she know WHY I hunt her?

"...I like mine with lettuce and tomata
Heinz 57 and french fried potata
a big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
well, good god almighty which way do I steer..."

As is obvious in my first post, Nienjah is half sister to Celebrian's children---Elrohir, Elladan and Arwen. If anyone has a problem reconciling her genealogy with Tolkien's history, please let me know now so we can come to some amicable agreement. I won't persist in the thread if people object to Nienjah's antecedents.

Naiore would know that she is being hunted and would suspect that Jason could be on her trail. Of course, she's been working on evading capture so she will not have gotten close enough to confirm her suspicions. As far as Naiore's concerned, one hunter is the same as the other.

She won't know it's you until she actually identifies you. Then she will recognise you from Ithilien. She believes to have lost her trackers in Dol Amroth, and hence is taking a few less precautions in Fangorn as she unwinds a little. As far as Naiore knows now, she is unmarked and unlooked for. She expects that to change once she moves into Rohan but for now, she is free to repair her weariness. Naiore is ever fond of wild places.

Now, all of this is based on you playing a different character than the one that is presently interacting (<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>) with Jason on another thread. But I'm happy to build up more prior knowledge between our two characters by fleshing out the actual nature of Naiore's doomed work in Ithilien. For example, was she welcomed into your group as a wandering elf only to betray hospitality and good will? Was she found on the road, with other refugees? Did she win trust by playing the part of a waif, or of a high born elven lady... Certainly she would have used her gender and race to her advantage in infiltrating the ranks of Ithilien...

I'll leave how she did that to your amazing imagination, Jason. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Someone will, and Alayna will be fortunate that it's not Naiore! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Novice, wonderful opening post. Personally speaking I have no problems with Nienjah's genalogical heritage, but then those who know me know that I am not a stickler as a purist. I think the history of your character is plausible, based on historical incidents concerning Celebrian's story as elucidated by JRRT. There's enough fuzzy grey areas to work with and you do so admirably well.

Naboo! YAY! You joined us! Let's here it for Naboo! Can I ask whether your fiesty eorlingas meant to skin the rabbit or the arrogant riders? You can tell aunty Naiore. She won't think any the less of you if she wanted to flay them instead of the coney... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Great to see you with us.

Alright now, the pressure is on for Shirr, Jason and whomever Leofric's Noldo will be named as... and where's Tempest gone... ans Snowdog?

As a collective (exluding moi) I must say well bloody done one and all on the writing. The future looks bright for this RP. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Can you tell that I'm pleased? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I am, just in case you couldn't.

Tobias, concerning the rack question, I feel a little guilty about leaving you to the tender mercy of your curiosity. Racks colloquially are known as a part of female anatomy, upper torso, if you get my drift. At least in some coarse and ill-educated places here in Oz they are. Does that help? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Actually, Tobias, Nienjah may be very interested in you! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Alayna's description is pretty and feisty and intelligent--just Nienjah's kinda gal, actually!

You want she should find you on her way to the Inn?

Naiore, thanks for the confidence; I had a very uncomfortable exchange with Finrod_the_Faithful as a consequence of the Ball thread. He emailed me and in the nicest, most courteous way told me that he reluctantly could not accept the possibility of Nienjah's existence; quite apart from the rape of Celebrian being implausible (as the consensus is that she was rescued very quickly), he also felt that a balrog and an umaia predatory cat could not have offspring without alot of singed fur and flesh.

And he's absolutely right in the purist sense; but I agree that there are enough grey areas that one can justify Nienjah--with the consensus of others in the thread. After all, I don't know any RP characters that have not taken liberties, some more outrageous than others. But it does mean that Nienjah will never again interact with her half brothers (sigh) <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

Nevertheless, if anyone has a problem with the plausibility of Nienjah's existence, speak now, or forever hold your peace! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
I reckon Nienjah's cool! I think she should stay. We all have our differet revisonary tolerance levels. I'm known to take a few wild liberties.... I KNOW that Naiore does.

OK, so maybe I'm perverse (Naiore, no comments from you on that please young lady), but I think the fact my dream post almost put someone to sleep is a good thing.

Afterall, I was writing about a sleepy Menecin, and so to evoke a yawn is a good thing in that concept. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Cue one comment from Naiore about the resilience of an overinflated ego or somesuch psychobabblw quip... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

Beat you to the post there, darlin' <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Now, I actually do have something relevant to say (once again, Naiore can keep her sarcastic mouth firmly closed).

Jason, would you like me to hold off on my sighting post (when Menecing actually sights Naiore) until you post. That way, we could both stumble over her. Put some clothes on, you harlot Ravener you!

You could post saying that you'd been able to sneak on up on her, as she doesn't think you're following anymore, and we could both bump into each other as well as the quarry we're stalking.

Speaking of racks an all, I remember you mentioned that Jason is likely to want to do something very different with Naiore than Menecin. My questions are, what do you think Menecin will want to do with her... and what will Jason want to do with her... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

What? I just wanted to share my questions the same way Naiore is... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
