So now that other people have been handling it (ever since The History of the Hobbit), there's no reason not to keep doing these until the well is truly dry, right? Not just Middle-earth stuff. His alliterative Beowulf translation needs to come out in full. An expanded edition of Letters. Etc.

This book is being characterized as an unofficial addition to HOME.

Well, yes. It's arguably closer to being another Unfinished Tales than HOME in the proper sense, since this appears to be about showing the essays, rather than tracing evolution of ideas.

It is definitely something to look forward to though.

One needs the Estate's permission first.

How much would you like to bet that the editor is the same Chris Smith who authored The Lord of the RIngs: Weapons and Warfare that looked at the weapons, armors and battles of the films? It is the only book I own about the making of the LotR films (and it also includes a foreword by Christopher Lee).

The Editor is Carl Hostetter, not Chris Smith.

Both are credited with editorial duties, doubtless in different capacities: https://www.tolkienguide.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=25290. Smith is even credited in the story you linked to, but you must have missed that.

Fascinating! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that. I'm always excited when I hear the words "previously unpublished".
