I'm new too, but I think the only way to get to know what goes on is by posting, leading to some light hearted arguing, and perhaps even have some not so light hearted arguements.

Sorry Evil, didn't mean to hurt, and I'm really not angry. But I was out of line and I do apologise for that. See... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I think we can safely say you'll not be banned from these boards. So long as you're not TOO polite and respectful that is.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Okay...well Tommy B, the only elf i like in the books is Legolas. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
I absolutely love the Rohirrim( more than the Gondorians) and yes, i thought that Gimli wanting to create a dent in Gandalf's hat was extremely cool..and i loved his axe too <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>
I think most of the elves that have their characters expanded were the greatest ones..Elrond, Galadriel, Glorfindel, etc.
They were the "keepers" of Middle-Earth. Legolas was not. He was just another elven prince but an "immensely strong" one compared to others of his stature and level ..others who had come before him.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>
Okay...i just wanted to voice out my opinion, so uhhh...i'm a little wary about writing this <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> because i might create some heavy language post from Tommy B <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>(which i haven't seen before this <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> )

'Fairly handy' Tommy B? Well ... that's better than meager I guess <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Elf-princes can also get you the best seats at concerts btw.

And a stern reminder from Aragorn lest anyone contemplate the uncontemplatable (Garn! or something like that) -- "Speak no evil of the lady Galadriel!" Ok, Tommy, what're ya drinking? I promise not to go TOO hard on the elves as long as I'm sober, and since I'm a sweet drunk, I probably won't be hard on them at any point. Man, I'm SO not living up to my repuation, am I?

I like Elrond because he's both a strong warrior and gentle scholar and I respect people who embrace the dichtomy within. I also really liked Glorfindel in that knight in shiny armor to the rescue kinda way. Legolas gets cooler as the story goes(once he befriends Gimli, of course).

I think my problem with elves is that I don't relate to them. I've never been pure of heart and 'selfless'... I'll never be an etheral(ooh.. murdered that spelling) creature, so I can't put myself in thier place. I feel the same way about elves that I do about angels: like I'll never measure up. To me, they all seem distant aloof; not of this world, which they aren't.

Dwarves I can understand and relate to: I'm Lithuanian, a lot of my relatives were miners, smiths and tunnel builders. I admire their stubborn streak for the same reasons. Hobbits I can dig, Lithuanians are also extremely fond of gardening and working in good earth. My only regret about living in windy lonely Wyoming is the lack of good soil and the short growing season.

The other person I dont care for has already been brought up, so I dont even have to do it... hehehehehe

Ordering a drink for herself and Tommy,
Evil

My least favorite character is Tom Bambadil. He interrupts the most chillingly enjoyable part of the book! It just doesn't fit, and for my part, I'm glad their going to leave him out of the movie.
Besides, who in really life only talks in rhythm?

My least favourite character was Illuvatar.

Just like a God... creates a world, allows evil to enter it and screw with it, sits back and lets others deal with the mess, acts all mysterious with talk about death being a 'Gift,' and gets all sore and cranky when a few guys decide they got the raw end of the deal and want a crack at immortality as well.

Talk about an incompetent diety! All-powerful, my ass!

<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Iman, you're far too nice to draw harsh words, not like that Evil lady.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Evil, I usually drink beer, but I do like a good bourbon from time to time. JD or Wild Turkey usually. Yourself, what you drinking?

And Cian, I agree. I call Legolas a pansy and draw general uproar, yet here we have Galadrial being wontonly slandered and no one is seeking retribution. Go Figure...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I usually don't drink anymore, having destroyed my stomach lining with an ulcer the size of Yellowstone Park. BUT, since this is cyber and my cyber stomach lining is intact and I'm not driving.... TEQUILA, Cuervo1800, lots of it, straight up, please.
Hmm... anybody know if a slice of toast and a fudgesicle are considered a good breakfast? I bet the hobbits would approve, if there were several slices and several sicles.
I didn't like Radigast very much either. He's a wizard but he doesn't join the fight? BAH!
That Evil Lady
Ya know, Eowyn, I noticed that the bears on someone else's signature stop dancing and Tigger's prints stop printing after a bit too. If my fairy is voted as highly annoying by the masses, I can change her. I have a nice collection of fairy gifs.

Evil,

Where in Wyoming are you? I grew up in Glenrock and went to college at UW. I spent a summer in Cheyenne. My wife grew up in Riverton, and her parents have a cabin on Union Pass above Dubois. My parents grew up in Thermopolis and Wheatland. I bet I know something about the town you live in.

Sam, I bet you know a lot about my little town. I actually live in Laramie, small world?
You're pretty familiar with the whole state, it seems. My father moved us here in 75 when he came to work for UW, I moved away for a couple years, but have been living here since 95. I go to UW when my babysitter shows up, my little brother is a meat science major here too.
YOW... how off topic am I?
*giggles*
Evil

Wow!

We were just in Laramie last weekend. We stayed at Foster's, ate dinner at The Cavalryman, and snowmobiled near Foxpark. Small world indeed! We want to take a trip that way to visit the Territorial Museum and drive up through Sybille Canon.

I was in Aspen over Thanksgiving. That's the first time I've been through the Foxpark area in ages, I forgot how gorgeous it is. I love Sebille canyon though, I always drool over the elk.

OOooh.. I disliked Shelob and the Mirkwood spiders too. I've always had a problem with anything that has more appendages than I do.

Well.. my living room is full of unpacked Christmas decorations (I'm a christmas nut.. even change the pictures on my walls) I better git if I'm going to have this cleaned up by the time the kids get home...
See y'all later, I'm sure I won't be able to stay away long

Evil Up To Her Armpits in Tinsel and Holly

If you're looking for a truely annoying character, look at Bombur. I have always wanted to wring his neck for panicking when and falling in the enchanted stream in Mirkwood. What a numbskull!

That would be THE ENTIRE FELLOWSHIP! Because they destroyed the ring they ruined everything for the rest of us! I, personally, after the conquest, had plans to build a beach front mansion....er..fortress of evil....right in the middle of the Grey Havens, but those plans were ruined!!!! Argh! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif"border=0>

Actually, I've never liked Celeborn for some reason. I can never figure out what Galadriel ever saw in him either. To me, he comes off as rather unintelligent, short sighted and rash-the exact opposite of Galadriel and most of the other elvish lords.

My "Character you just love to hate" award goes to that Numenorian ass Ar-Pharazon. What the hell is he thinking, making war on the Ainur?

My "God, this character just sucks and why did Tolkien even put him in LOTR!" award goes to none other than Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo starts off so promisingly in LOTR. In the opening chapter he pulls his little vanishing trick on his idiot relatives and we are then lead to believe that he is heading off into the wild blue yonder to embark on crazy adventures. Good old Bilbo! So where do we encounter the little guy next? Helping Frodo and friends escape to Imladris from the threat of the Nazgul? Wrong! Or maybe he is a soldier in Gondor fighting against Sauron? Incorrect! No, we end up finding everyone's favorite hobbit snoozing by the fire in the Last Homely House! What the hell is going on here? The hobbit we all came to love in The Hobbit has become some doddering old fool in LOTR! Say it ain't so, J.R., say it ain't so! If I had been Tolkien (and God knows I am not) I would have killed Bilbo off in a prologue, attributing his death to natural causes rather than making him into some senile halfling that can't keep his eyes open! Such a betrayal!
