Got an idea, or did we do something that you really find disturbing? Come here and tell us about it and we'll respond.

New Board...

Thank you for the new board. :D

I like the color, it seems easier on the eyes.
I know there are tweaks to be made yet and I will be patient.

Thanks again.

You did good.

I have to echo Calma...it is very nice. I still have to wander around and see some of the new stuff, but I like it. :D

I like playing with the font colors too. ;)

Thanks! I know there's more work to do, but having it converted to phpbb3 was a HUGE deal! I'll keep working on it till its much improved... In fact, I'm making this post from an iPhone app! :D

Hi Jon,

First of all thanks so much for the new board.

I know you are currently looking into a lot of things including details of PreMe and Jools/Shields etc. to satisfy all of us junkies :P :P (if anyone denies having gone through withdrawal symptoms over the past few days I'll call their bluff :P), but I just wanted to let you know that I am having trouble accessing the user control panel under this ID whether I use Firefox or Safari which are my two browsers.
I tried under one of my RP IDs which has less than 100 posts and had no issue so my guess is that it is tied to the number of messages but it is an uneducated guess since I know nothing about computers and all phpbb thingy :P.

I figured though you might want to know about what we see to troubleshoot if need be (I know the IT team at work do so ;)).

Thanks again :)

I am having problems with it, too. (I use Firefox.) It eventually loads, but it takes a really long time--several minutes or more.

It's not a big deal, though, and thanks for the hard work on the site!

Hmmmm. I use Firefox and have a *cough* rather large postcount and am not having any problems with the TORC or the UCP.

So, here's a suggestion . . .

Delete all your browser cookies and temporary files. Close the browser and start a fresh session. Then try TORC again.

(Sometimes, both Firefox and IE "hold on" to cached files so there might be a whole lotta old settings that could be getting in the way.)

The very first time you re-load the new TORC, it might take a few seconds longer while the cookies get re-created, but IF that was the problem it should click along right smart after that.

Of course, that might not be the problem at all, but it's one thing to knock off the list, eh wot?

I see we're redecorating. :)

It's pretty. I had no problem getting in from Explorer at work, but I haven't tried this yet from home where we have Google Chrome. I'll report back later.

It is kind of weird, though, having a gray background on the posting box. I guess it's because so many boards have the posting box with white background.

someone said earlier (Calma maybe?) that the new design is easier on the eyes. I have to agree. It also reminds me of a book in some ways.

I have firefox at both work and home and I'm not having a problem. I'd try Scribble's suggestion.

LOL Morwenna . . . yes indeed all our pretty "jools" are waiting in the wings for Jon to transfer them over. Also missing is the custom titles for PM's, since the PM's are also sitting patiently backstage, next to the jools. And I think the "Alliance" labels might be hiding in the wings somewhere as well. I'm pretty sure it used to say "House of Earendil" above my Join and Last Visited dates . . . oh, and Last Visited Date! Another wee lost lamb, wandering the backstage area . . . :D

I didn't realize the extent of TORC's "customizations" until I started looking at all the different individual elements of the pages. Jon has done a truckload of work, but I can see that he still has a few, front-end loader sized jobs to do.

Poor guy. I don't envy him the job . . . :Q

Hey Scribs.

Yes, the "eye candy" we miss will surely reappear. Jon has heard us. That he has and cares is a great thing for all of us.

By the way, lovely to see you my friend.

Scribbles,

I took your advice and cleaned cache and cookies from both Firefox and Safari but it still does not change the fact that I cannot access the user control panel :(. I even downloaded and tried with GoogleChrome and it does not work.
I am not sure why. I also tested it on my husband's computer; it does not work either (I thought it might have to do with my computer which is getting old but his is almost new and still)...

I see that the 10-year jewels aren't up either.

Oh well, one thing at a time. At least the PMs' siggies are there now. Everything looked so short without them!

New board is looking good, and loads much faster than it has been! thanks for this!

One question/concern on some missing posts. The Prancing Pony had the threads indexed in the sticky thread "Old Grey Mare's Reading Room'. It seems most of the posts with the thread indexing have disappeared, with the threads starting with 'U' being the first. That means the ones with the A through to T have gone missing. If there any chance of recovery?

My PM ran out shortly before the upgrade and I can't find how to get myself a new one. I've waited for signatures to come back, but now they are, I still can't find the 'buy PM' option - isn't it back yet or haven't I found it? :D

If I understand correctly, Hobby, you automatically have one. Click on User Control Panel at the top of the page. Click on "profile" then click on "edit signature."

Hm...okay...I guess maybe that's something Jon still has to work out? I don't know, sorry! :)

I just checked the FAQs and I think there might be an answer there. Maybe.

Hmmh, ok - I checked the FAQ (thanks for the tip, I hadn't thought of that - d'oh :D ) - that does sound as if signatures are available for everybody. But it also says there should be a radio button in my profile to show a sig, and there isn't, and that you can tick a box accordingly when you post, and the box is ticked, but still no sig...I guess I'll contact Jonathan at some point. :)

I still don't have access to the user control panel...
I don't want to be a pain but I am at a loss as to why. It just loads for ever (like for 10 minutes right now) and then it shows unavailable as if I were not connected. :( :(

I noticed a quirk in translation.

I reread a couple of old posts of mine to pick up a thread and noticed something about the emoticons. I used to punch in a few in a row without spaces between them and they simply came up butting elbows. Those same emoticons in the old posts now only show the first one, followed by the characters used to produce the others.

I suppose this means that now we have to separate all our emoticons...

Yeah, it's part of the new board code for this version of phpbb, Morwenna... It truncates smileys stuck side by side... Putting a space between them should work though.

Thanks for this Jonathan and Daefaroth. Sounds like a lot of work, but it was quite a nice archive to have. Much appreciated! :)

I seem to be having trouble getting the user control panel to open of late. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using Google Chrome, but tried Safari and Firefox with the same result.
