'Stories' in the Reading Room

Postby mattr1 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 6:28 pm

I took a look around in the "Stories" section on the main page, and I find there small texts posted by "Jonathan", who I assume is the administrator, in no order with a strange style reminiscent of Tolkien but sounding slightly off, if not to say pretty bad (has just my taste altered?). In any case, I would advise you to clarify that section, if there are any original texts or if they are fanfiction (I see there are at least some fanfiction) and maybe provide some introductions or author-profiles etc... I got there looking for an original title, "The Cuivienyarna", which was mentioned on Wikipedia. That particular text was relatively ok, so I would believe it to be original (although without being convinced by it), or maybe it's just a summary, but things like that should be clear to see.

I suspect that everything in the Stories section is not written by Tolkien and is therefore "fanfiction". I agree that a summary of the Reading Room would be helpful, though.

The Cuivienyarna that you mentioned is mentioned in Tolkien's History of Middle-earth - it is mentioned in the volume "The War of the Jewels". I suspect that Jonathan has expanded upon what is known and written. However, due to copyright issues, I highly doubt that anything will be posted that was written by Tolkien without credit.

I know as soon as someone tells me I'm going to say, "Oh, right. Of course. How stupid of me!" but where is the Reading Room? I looked for it earlier after reading a thread about members writing books but I couldn't find it.

If you go to the main home page, then one of the menus on the top is Reading Room which has several drop-down menus. :)

It's a common mistake. I rarely go to the main home page. :)
