Introducing myself....

Postby bluegoatwoods » Tue Jul 05, 2016 4:25 pm

I've found a forum dedicated the The Lord of The Rings? How cool is that??!!

I've been a fan since discovering these books as a teen-ager in the late 1970s. And I've never really stopped reading them. It might be viewed as odd since I'm not a fantasy fan. I'm more into classic science fiction and non-fiction. But when this particular story gets it's claws in you, you don't get away easily. (But, for that matter, I don't particularly want to get away.)

I've read "The Silmarillion". Though not as extensively. For some years now I've not had a copy on hand. I don't know where my copy got to. But I've bought another and started reading it last night. I haven't gotten far yet.

But I'm the sort of fan who knows the Three Books quite well. And I have some notion of the history of, for instance, characters like Elrond and Galadriel. And I'm eager to learn more.

Obviously this forum gives me the chance to learn more. Before registering I lurked in, for example, the "Annotated" thread here in the "Welcome" section. Interesting stuff.

I'll have to wrap this up now because I have an errand to run here in the real world. But I'll be back.

It's a pleasure to meet you folks. And I'll see you around.

Hail and well met, bluegoatwoods!
It's always good to see a new face on the boards.
Though we're experiencing a slow time
I hope you have patience and stick around with us.

Have fun here and I'll see you around the boards.

Thank you, Calma.

I've been reading threads and it's really refreshing to find people who are familiar with this story and show a real interest in it. In day to day life I know no one at all who has actually read The Lord of The Rings. (Exception: two daughters. One of whom is interested enough to discuss it a bit. Still, with only two people it's difficult to fertilize new thoughts and ideas.)

Merely reading a handful of threads yesterday afternoon and evening has already given me some new insights into parts of the story. New interpretations of what would have seemed to be inconsequential passages.

Clearly a very interesting forum for a Hobbit-head like me to explore.

Like the lusciously lovely Ladykat I do not get here as often as I once did. At the present time I am laid up with a broken ankle so I am hanging around the boards more than in a long while. Always happy to meet a newbie and share our deep interest in this fabulous story and the world defined in it. Looking forward to hanging out here. Oh btw I am The Warrior/Bard Erinhue of Belfalas but most folk around here just call me 'Hue.

Welcome to a great place to stretch your creative tendons,
to develop skills that deepen the joy in our halls,
and give us new eyes to see the world of Tolkien with
your vision and insight.

Enjoy this place,
this splendid place,
full of fun and noble grace.
Find new realms,
take swords and helms,
talk to Ents (that look like elms).
Come and play
day by day
see why we say...
We love TORC!

Blessings,
Parm :)
