Walking down to the common room of the Inn both Robin and Penny yawned. As they took a seat at the same table that the head been seated at the night before.

"Can I get you ladys some coffee or something" Borin asked when all of the sudden Robin started making a gagging like face, "Is something the matter?" he asked with a look of concern on his face.

Laughing and slapping her friend in the arm, "It's quite alright Borin. My friend here hates coffee so much that just the mention of the word causes her to make the funniest of faces" Penny replied.

"Coffee is EVIL!" Robin replied bitterly

"Coffee is not evil Robin" Penny said

"Yes it is! Coffee is more evil than..." Robin begain to say when her mouth was covered up by Penny's hand.

" Two cups of herbal tea and a bagel for me"Penny began to order and looked over to Robin who's mouth was still covered by her hand "Now be nice"

"I would like some toast with peanut butter" Robin said nicely"But I still say Coffee is EVIL!" she added in quickly.

Laughing a little at Robin's opinion of Coffee, Borin got up from his seat, carrying Beryl's empty bowl and glass to the kitchen to tell Heather the girls order.

Eliana stood and yawned, downing the few drops left in her glass of orange juice after a rather hastily finished breakfast. She had slept late, resting pleasently from the previous night. She saw Borin returned from the kitchen, and bade him farewell with thanks for the inn's hospitality.

"Well," she sighed, "I thank you very much, but it is time I return to my duties."

"A pleasure to have you stay, mistress." Borin returned with a grin.

"And a pleasure to meet you, Master Borin. I'd best be off, but I'll be back." Smiling, the tall ranger tossed her hood over her still rumpled morning hair, and strode out of the door into the crisp autumn sunlight.

Heather brought the girls order out of the kitchen for them..Borin was at his table enjoying another cup of coffee and laughing at the faces Robin was making...Beryl was just getting done with her pieces of apple and got down from her chair next to Borin and walked over to Penny and Robin. She climbed up into a chair next to Penny and started playing with a piece of Penny's sleeve..."Sof..nice"she said as she rubbed it against her cheek. Penny laughed at the youngster's antics and Heather came over to retrieve her child.

Yawning, Mell threw back the coverlet on her bed and stretched. The bed here at the LFI was a simple straw stuffed mattress, with lovely clean linens atop, but to someone used to sleeping on the ground, rolled in a cloak, it was palatial. She looked out a crack in the shutters, and her eyes widened, she was late! She quickly splashed some of the cool water from the pitcher on the dresser into her face, and pulled her clothes on, braiding her hair roughly before flinging the door open and hurrying down to the common room.

Luckily there weren't too many folks up yet, only Borin, Heather, Penny, and Robin, so she calmed as soon as she hit the common room. She yawned, blushed, and vanished into the kitchen to get herself some breakfast. Coming out with a bowl of honey-sweetened porridge, and a mug of steming tea, she wandered over to the one occupied table, "Sorry I'm late, I slept in, apparently." She sat down with the others, smiling at them in the morning sunlight.

"It's alright, Mel. Breakfast is slower than supper, so we're fine, and Leo had the fire going and the oven hot as soon as i got to the kitchen so everything was ready faster than I expected." Heather then turned and collected Beryl. "I'm sorry if she's bothering you, Miss Penny."
"Pway Boks!"
"Alright, Baby, but you have to let Momma clean you up first. You're all sticky!"
"Sikie!"
Heather laughed as she carried her daughter into the kitchen, retreaved a damp cloth and proseeded to clean the stickyness from Beryl's face and hands. That finished, Heather gave her daughter the bag of blocks. The little girl grinned and toddled into the tap room with her treasure.

Mall nodded, "Well then I shall have to express my undying appreciation to him." Eating in the glorious morning sunshine, friends around her and a lovely child playing on the sparklingly clean floor, Mell sighed. Autumn days passed so quickly, and she was glad that his year she would be with friends. "Heather, I was wondering if I could have acouple hours this afternoon, and a Beryl friend to share them with?" She looked at Heather with an impish grin on her face. The woman looked startled, then smiled "Depends on what you want to kidnap my little one for...she's still a bit young for most play outside, and I wouldn't want her to catch a chill." Mell smiled wider, "Well, I noticed the apples in the orchard doen the hill were ripe, and was hoping to go pick some with her. I thought she might enjoy getting out and playing chase under the trees. Maybe even steal Leo to carry our bounty. Then when we get back, Beryl should be nicely tired out for her nap, and you can back us some of your marvelous apple pies!" With a look of entreaty at the cook, she batted her eyelashes. Heather laughed, "Well, for a few hours of time to myself and a good long naptime, I might be persuaded to let you!" "Great!" said Mell, "As soon as I'm done with breakfast I'll track down Leo and ask him."

"Picking apples sounds like fun, would you mind if I came to help?, I haven't been apple picking for ages" Penny asked Mell.

Penny then turned to Heather and asked "Could I some of that delicious smelling oatmeal with milk and honey in it, and a glass of milk also?"

The young Easterling General walked into the New Lucky Fortune and a smile crossed his face.

Hue had even rebuilt his little corner in hopes the he might return to his job and home once more. Well he had returned again and he sling his cloak onto its peg and propped his spear up next to it.

He shook out his long black hair and stared around at the new patrons of the famous inn and smiled. Though faces changed, the company never seemed to.

Matrim then moved to his position at the corner of the bar and stood there, a smile on his face, as he resumed his job as the bouncer of the LFI.

A young, dark-tanned man walked into the inn and handed Mell a scroll. As he rode off, Mell opened it and read:

Dear Erinhue, Borin, and Mell,

How are all of you? I have just arrived here in Khand, and I my disguising skills have been put to the test already. The High King of Khand, Morband, has issued a decree stating that all foreigners are to be deported. The sentence for any foreigners here by the end of the week will face immediate death. Anyone who is found to be sheltering foreigners will be imprisoned for life after being tortured. As you might imagine, I have hid anything that might tell who I am. Disguised as a rug salesman, I have hired people to weave and made a little money through my monopoly. It is a cruel place though, with immorality all over the mean streets. I hope that this letter to not be discovered, for I do not wish for my own safety, but for the innkeeper, who I ahve befriended, though he knows not my identity. But enoguh of me. How are you? I have come across peaches, which are sweet and a little bit tangy. I could bring soem back for you, if you wish. Have there been any newcomers at the Lucky Fortune? Has business been going well? I will try to return as quickly as I can, but I must sell the rug business and find lemons, for the annual harvest has not come yet. Good luck with the Lucky Fortune, and I will write again soon.

Borin rose from the table when he saw the young man enter the Inn... "Welcome sir, my name is Borin Silversmith ... resident Dwarf... I'm the bartender here... I've been kind of in charge when Master Erinhue is out of the building... I'm assuming by your manner that you have been here before... so in that case I welcome you back..."Borin said as he held out his hand to the stranger.

The stranger shook Borin's hand and said," Thank you"

"There is a fresh pot of coffee and some delicious cinnamon rolls in the kitchen.. I was just going to get some for myself would you care to join me?" Borin asked

Mat looked down at the dwarf and smiled.

I am Matrim Calhoun, in the original Lucky Fortune I was the bouncer and had many intresting nights here. It has been long since I have been back to these parts as my duty called me away but I am glad to be back. he said as he moved off with the dwarf.

Mell looked up from Cal's letter as she recognized the young man's voice. Standing there, as if he had not been gone, was Matrim. With a happy squeal, she rushed to him and flung her arms about his neck. "Mat! We've missed you! How are you? Where have you been? What have you been doing?" She planted a big kiss on his cheek, and hugged him again, then turned and yelled to the office, "Hue, it's Mat come back!" She glanced at Matrim, smiling at the look of surprise plastered across his features at her exuberant welcome and laughed, "Welcome home traveler," she said in a slightly more subdued tone. Then she began to whistle a happy tune, dancing across the floor through the beams of sunlight streaming through the windows. Almost a jug, she danced across the floor and back, grabbing Mat and Borin's arms as she passed, pulling them into her dance as well, then nodding at Penny and Heather, and bringing them all into a circle about Beryl, who laughed and clapped at their antics. Finally, breathless, they all made their way back to the table to relax with drinks and the remains of breakfast.

Mat smiled at Mell. When the dancing had finally stopped he moved in front of the harth and began to recount his tale.

I left so long ago because I had been running away from much of my past, my hertiage, and my secerts. I went to confront those.

I was once a General of a group of men who fought like devils and because of my actions tehy were salughtered to a man. I had to put the memories of the Band to rest.

I returned home to the East and Rasied an army, overthrowing the man responsible for my loss. He was the presiding warlord over my people. When I had accomplished this, I was placed in his position for many months.

During this time I did much to make my people independant. With this came what I had dreaded. My past was dreged up and it was found that I was a convicted murderer.

I went to trial again and this time was found that I acted in self defense. After that I felt the call of the West again and turned over leadership of my land and army to my good friend and returned to you.

He sat down and smiled glad to be back home again.

Watching the joyfull danceing Robin couldn't help but smile at the the old friends return to the LFI.

"Would it be alright If I may join in on the picking of Apples, many hands makes for light work" she asked. "Though I think that the extra set's of eye's would be of some use with such a lively, beautiful child" Robin smile Beryl as she played.

"Have you much experience with children?" Born asked as he sipped his coffee.

"Yes, Master Dwarf. One might say that. I raised a set of twin boys a long time ago" Robin replied, "Though sadly both they and their father were killed in a storm at sea as we were traveling from the Grey Havens to Dol Amroth"

Orion looked up as the Easterling walked in through doors. It did indeed seem like all the 'old crowd' was coming back with the re-opening of the Fortune. Standing from the corner he had appropriated to keep an eye on the main room, the Elf moves over to the bar and drops a hand on Matrim's shoulder.

Welcome, general. Finished with your campaign and finally deigned to give us your time of day? The smirk in the white-blond Elf's voice betrays any rancor in his voice. The two bards smile as they greet each other. I hope you don't mind but when Hue opened this place again, I offered to take up your old post. But it's been fairly quiet. Not even a half drunk goblin to toss out. And thankfully, no renditions of the song... Anyways, feel like sharing the job?

"Robin, Penny, I would love your company! Tell you what, we'll pack a picnic lunch and make a party of it!" She smiled at Heather, "If you think you can get by without us?" Heather nodded, and smiled at the girls. "Well then, it's a plan." Mell looked over at Orion and Mat, "Either of you boys want to come?" She grinned sideways at them, "You can show off your muscles for these young ladies..." Then she looked over at Borin, "Actually, maybe we'll steal the handsomest dwarf in all of middle earth instead, would you like to come?"

"Mistress Mellaurelom you have made this dwarf blush with your words....Handsome indeed *humph* However the thought of escorting you lovely ladies and the one and only young mistress Beryl to the apple orchard would make for an enjoyable afternoon.. and a picnic sounds wonderful ..." Borin said " However I do not wish to leave the Inn in the lurch, for a bartender."

From out of the office Master Hue could be heard." Borin, go help the ladies the magic that Heather can do with apples will be worth me putting up this work for a while..Mel gave me this letter from Celegal.. What do you think about getting some peaches? "

Borin said," I'm anxious to taste Mistress Heather's apple pie. I've never had peaches but I heard they're good. Alright Mistress Mell I'll be pleased to join you."

Postby RAULDAC » Wed Oct 19, 2005 2:11 pm

Candle flames suddenly flickered then dimmed within the Common room and set shadows to dance. Within the silently opened door a silhouetted figure appeared to block the sunlight and cast an ominous shadow across the full length of the hard planked floor. A chill filled the anti-chamber when the figure moved.

Unusually tall for Man, yet of a stature more muscular than Elf, he stepped over the threshold and surveyed the vast expanse with barely a movement of his head. Clothed and cloaked in black, only his eyes became visible when caught in the flicker of a flame.

Barely discernable, the rise and fall of silk was the only evidence that the stone still figure took breath. Eyes black as obsidian shifted to take in one who turned and eyed him suspiciously, not at all surprised by the recognition. Though not one to suffer the company of others in frivolous pursuits, this particular situation warranted a civil response, for it was evident the creatures within were definitely not servants to the one who spawned him.

Cold, calculating and unmistakably dangerous, he moved on silent feet to the tap-room and flipped a heavy gold coin upon the bar. RAULDAC brushed back the hood of his cloak, shifted and with a nod of his head cast the full force of his gaze upon an ebony-haired beauty. One corner of his mouth lifted in a grin more vicious than amused as he thoroughly examined the woman, sizing up what possible value she might afford his cause.

A blink of his eyes changed the obsidian orbs to emerald amidst a pool of blood-laced snow as he turned back to address the Inn-Keeper and when he opened his mouth to speak; his voice retained a sense of rolling thunder, yet lacked the razor sharp edge familiar to those under his command.

“Mae govannen, Master Bard. Peace be with you this day. Your finest Miruvor … and leave the decanter.”

Rauldac pour a generous amount of miruvor in into a goblet, then took from his side pouch a silver vial and sprinkled a few grains of its contents into the elven cordial which bubbled and foamed before turning blood red. He then drew forth a dagger, slid the blade across his palm and let the blood droplets splash into the elixir. A flick of his tongue cleaned the blade which was promptly returned to its scabbard before he lifted the goblet in mock salute.

“To the End-times prophecy … for it will be fulfilled.” RAULDAC called out in the black speech and with a casual movement tossed off his cloak and removed the gauntlets from his wrists. “Be not mistaken,’’ he said, addressing those who stared his way. “I seek no protection, and serve none but the ancient who spawned me. My arrival is solely to pay my respect to those who dwell here and perhaps form an alliance and alleviate boredom with wicked adventure.” He then scooped up the crystal decanter and moved to a side-table.

“Agh burzum-ishi krimpatul, (In darkness bind them).”

Borin noticed the dark stranger as he walked in... who could help but notice.. He also noticed his preference for drink..being a bartender.. What Borin noticed most of all was how uncomfortable the stranger made his young guests feel... Borin walked over to where Matrim and Orion were speaking.. "Sirs If you would be so kind as to keep a watchful eye upon our newest guest I would appreciate it. I fear he is having an unfavorable affect upon some of our guests... I'm going to get Mistress Mell and the girls and get them going on our excursion to tha apple orchard ... If my assistance is needed just yell I shall be able to hear you the trees are not that far away... "

With that Borin went to Mell." Why don't you ladies start down to the trees and I shall follow in a little bit..as soon as I get our Lunch and some baskets to bring our treats back in."

Mell gave the stranger a look and Borin a knowing smile " Why that sounds good. Just let me grab a blanket that we can set our pretty one on." Mell went to the back room grabbed a blanket and Beryl's blocks. Robin swung Beryl up on her shoulder and they started off toward the orchard.

As the ladies walked to the orchanrd, Mell patted the hidden pocket in her skirt. Just to reassure herself that her long knofe was still within easy reach. That Rauldac character gave her the creeps. She was fairly sure Orion, Mat, and Hue could take care of the Inn, and was glad Borin would be coming to the orchard. Between the four of them, she was sure she would be just a needless extra, but she was glad to have the knife and the ability, however minor, to use it. Besides, if trouble came, she just had to hold him off so the others could get to safety. She thought she could do that.

She kelp up her smile, though, not wanting to spoil the morning for the other ladies, and led the way down to the orchard. The apples were perfect. Golden-orange globes just waiting to be plucked for insertion into a pie, or pressing into cider. The sky was mostly clear, with just few white-fleecy clouds drifting across to make it interesting. There was a cool breeze wafting across the orchard, bringing the sweet scent of apples to their noses. Beryl was placed upon the blanket, and the first apple was given to her with great ceremony, until she took a big bite and dribbled juice down her chin with a giggle.

Realizing there was no more to draw her here she gathered her quill and parchment and returned them to the satchel. The friendly familiar woman who had spoken earlier, enquiring as to her writings had disappeared as quickly as she had come. She was surprised how easy it was to fall away into the shadows. To disappear through dark cracks in the earth into darkened pits that swallowed souls and feasted on eager, friendly eyes.

Where had that thought come from? Perhaps it had something to do with the latest arrival. He made her skin crawl and it was time she took her leave. Aislinn pulled her cloak closely around her auburn curls and hunkered down into the warmth. A chill had come over the common room.

With one more passing glance to the kindly dwarf that had welcomed her earlier, Aislinn moved quietly towards the door... It was a shame, but that was life. She hoped these fine people fared well but with that dark stranger standing at the bar she wasn't about to stick around and find out.

“To the End-times prophecy … for it will be fulfilled.” Aislinn heard the black speech and shuddered before closing the door softly behind her.

As they began picking the apples Robin smiled as she watched Beryl eating her apple. With Borin yet to arive with there baskets the ladys made do with the fronts of there skirts.

"Is anything the matter ma'lady" Mell asked seeing the almost sadened smile upon Robin's face.

Blinking quickly, "Oh I am fine. I was just remembering how my sons had loved the fruits of the fall. The child warms a place in my heart that has been to long with out the love a child can bring" Robin spoke softly.

"Born, Born here, Born here" Beryl cried out excitedly.

Heather was not as afraid of the stranger as she should have been, perhaps, but she was very concerned for her daughter's safety and was very glad that the women set off for the orcherd with her. With a releaved sigh, she turned to the kitchen with Beorin to get lunch packed and find spare baskets. Once the dwarf had set off with his burden, she set to prepairing a lunch meal and getting everything ready to put up the fruit and make a couple pies.

As Borin walked up to the orchard he frist noticed Beryl screaming his name and waving. "Hi Born" Beryl said. "Hello there little miss where are the ladies?" He asked her and she pointed and said "or tere". Borin set down the baskets for the apples and the basket with there lunch in it and looked over to the next tree and saw Penny standing there looking puzzled "What the matter miss Penny?" "I am trying to Figure out how to get to the apples..back in the Shire the apple trees seem to be a little shorter.....I tried to climb the tree but it just didnt seem to work" Penny told Borin. "I have an idea.."he said as he went to get a basket for apples. " How about I put you on my shoulders and you can pick the apples?" "You know that just might work" she said as she smiled. So Borin picked up Penny and put her on his shoulders so she could reach the apples. All of a sudden Robin comes over to get a basket for her and Mel's apples and notices Penny on Borins shoulders. She tries not to laugh as she goes and gets Mel. "come over here and take a look at this" Robin tells Mel. When they get over there Both Mel and Robin hear Beryl saying "me want up to....me up" and they start to giggle. Borin and Penny hear this and turned to look " Hey what ever works" Penny said to them.

You are certainly welcome to him. I'll limit my own tossing to Dwarves. The white-blond Elf calls out in reply loud enough for Borin to hear. The words suggest discomfort to the Dwarf, but the smile on the Elf's face and the lightness in his voice tell of nothing but humor. Borin's chuckles spoke that he had caught the humor of it as well.

The shadows deepened and seemed to gain a measure of vitality as the figure enters. Orion gives him a sidelong look as the newcomer seems to move along gliding more than walking, though the white-blond Elf manages to pick out the faint rise and fall that signal foot steps. Borin's arrival by Mat and Orion could be called a forgone conclusion as the Dwarf requested the bouncers keep an eye on the new arrival. Nodding in agreement, Orion accepted a tall glass of sweet lemonade, sipping it as he settled close to halfway down the bar. The stranger did strange things to prepare a goblet of miruvor and to see the sweet cordial being so adulterated set the Elf's skin to crawl, enough that the Black Speech that follows has little effect.

The proclomation of seeking to 'pay respects to the people of the LFI' does somewhat to settle Orion's mind and the Elf leans back against the bar. Taking a chance on conversation, he turns to face Rauldac.
Would you be so kind as to perhaps elaborate upon this "wicked adventure" you speak of? And perhaps a name we may call you. As a show of good faith, you may call me Orion.

"Up, Mewy, up!" Mell laughed as Beryl toddled over to her, lifting her arms for similar treatment to Penny. She reached down and swung thetoddler up onto her shoulders, steadying her with one hand behind the tiny back. "Yay!" screeched Beryl as she joined the party. "I tawer dan Penny! I tawer!" Mell bagan to stalk Borin and Penny, asking Beryl in a stage whisper, "Beryl, shall we get Borin and Penny?" Penny mock-screeched as the two began to trail them, and giggled to Borin, "Faster! We have to get away!" Borin strode away through the trees, leading Mell and Beryl a merry chase around and about the orchard, as the others laughed. Beryl kept walloping Mell with her little fist as she yelled for the peredel to go "Fasta! Fasta!" Finally they caught up with their quarry, and Beryl grabbed Penny around the middle as they al collapsed in a laughing heap in the tall, soft grass under the apple trees.

The laughing heap under the apple tree was soon joined by Robin ... Soon they decided to stop to have their picnic lunch... Borin carried Beryl over to the blanket while Mel spread out the lunch Heather had packed for them... there was cheese, bread, cold meat, and a container with cold lemonade... the group ate their lunch... laughing and having fun playing with Beryl... After they finished Beryl lay down with her head on Penny's lap and was soon sound asleep... the rest of the group went back to picking apples... Borin said " that's alright Miss Penny... being the little miss' pillow is a very important job. Besides we have these baskets almost filled."

A man rode into the lawn, unmounted his horse, and walked over to the front of the inn. Since almost everyone seemed to be busy, he placed his letter on the bar. It read:

Dear Mell, Borin, erinhue, Eliana, and everyone else at the Lucky Fortune,

Greetings! I hope things have been going well there. I hope to return soon. The Khandi government is growing suspicious, I think. Everywhere I go I have a strange feeling that someone is following me. I have good news, though. A strong young man has pledged me his service and will help carry the fruit back to you. I still have mye eye on him, but I have increased his pay significantly at the rug business. By the way, my rug business has been growing quite well. The money has been flowing in, and the lemon harvest should start in a week. By rights, I should be dead now. Remember the decree that was issued by Morband? Well, it is now the end of the week, and if I am found, I will be killed. I have kept my sword close at hand, however, and no enemies have come across me yet. The peaches are to be harvested starting tomorrow, which means I can somehow find a way to stockpile those in my hotel room, for peaches are a big demand here. I think that fruit is the only good thing they have here, for I have been pick-pocketed twice, though I was not carrying much. I think that I know of a man to sell the rug business to, and he will pay me well. If, indeed, the friend of mine does help me out, there may be another traveler at the Lucky Fortune. Good luck with the inn, and I will write to you the night before the harvest.
