you saw
the scars (no doubt)
they are rather distinctive from the
bite
scratch
gnaw
chew
of the plentitude of bureaucratic bicuspids
who derive some sort of
mal
-icious
-evalent
-contented
-adjusted pleasures
from seeing the pain
in
others
Oddly
my wounds
heal
for I have a Physican
who sports quite a nasty wound
I
gave
Him.

Hope that dropping in a random poem is ok Parm. :)

Hate is a strong and unifying force,
I taste, now and again bitter yet sweet,
So easy to follow its path getting much done,
How hard to choose another, slower no glamour,

Intolerance a seductive bedfellow,
Neglect allows you rest and peace,
Laziness of the heart invites the easy,
Hardness of mind ignores the quieter plea,

Opening heart seeing the depth to love,
Sometimes too much to swallow it's price,
Holding out your hand to unknown,
To trust that after this step another,

These are the forces that work about us,
Some subtle others blatant in their allegiance,
How is a person to choose between?,
Between the hate so obvious and love unseen.

The line between sharing
but not editing,
and sharing,
then editing,
is barb-wired marked.
I read, appreciate, observe
and enjoy
each
emotion
each
image
each
concept
but that line
that prickly, stingy,
nettlesome, bothersome
line
is my border
is my thus-far-shall-ye-come-and-no-farther
promise
that I will play nicely
with all the children
and save my red pencil
for
much
much
later...
when we have sat down
hand on hand
eye to eye
because
the words
here
are stripped of
all
touch,
all
smile,
all
sighs
all
laughter
emoticons
do not
cut it
The written words
are read by
different eyes
heard by
different ears
understood in
different ways
thus
the line
the stay-put line
and the line
is really a fence
infinitely high
crystalline clear
I can see you,
and shall shall on
this side
thank you
until someone puts a gate
along that fence
until RSVPs
are issued
then I shall bring
my tools by
not
until then.

Promises of spring
are in the air today
winter slowly yeilding
and trees in warm breezes sway

A time of rebirth
knowing life will go on
rains nurture the soils
the sunlight bathes the lawns

blooms budding out
life renews again
showing how we prosper
when Jesus lives within!!

Spring is coming and I am so very excited!!!! The dreary winter has passed once more. God Bless to all my friends here!!

We are all well
yet someways, not--
one must say farewell to her friends
one must change desk and room and floor
one must take up the steering wheel
where one had had it long before
one must soon graduate, but look
one has bright new paths ahead
and one, who had a room, and view
must share communal rooms instead.
We all are well,
no colds or flu
but old things end
to have the new.

This week of the eucatastrophe
that any good thing
should come from Nazareth...
greeted with garlands and gowns
this week of the servant
the Fashioner of feet
betoweled
washes
camel dung away
from between
student's toes
this week of upside-down justice
innocence is cat-o-nine tailed
forty minus one times
(would forty have really made any difference?)
this week of eye-rubbing wonders
of a eucatastrophe
Death, where is thy sting?
Grave, where is thy victory?

Time now to be returning
to blossom as these cherries do
time that I have been yearning
more than some bank and shoal with you--
for in that resting space I lost
a list of things I dearly loved.
My muted anger was expressed,
but how my claws were thickly gloved.
It is my time for being here
though truth be told I did not leave,
but merely rested from the pace
that grew too frantic, I believe.
Time now to be returning
Use all I have been learning.

I want Spring to be in my heart
the ice be gone, and winds be mild,
I want the blossoms to return
to trees wind-bent from stormings wild,
but Spring will have to wait, I think
for much is frigid in my realm.
No time for harps and pipes and dance,
for battles rage and I wear helm.
Yet I know Spring shall come again,
for hope, like dawn, must surely come.
For now, I wait near warming fires,
though war-fog blinds and I am dumb.
Yes, Spring shall come, yes it shall come.

As promised:

Rhythm

As the flow goes, over and beyond
Entwining and circling unuttered thought
Naught but the ears hear, nothing
Back in again, sounding resounding what.

Warping and wefting, bright blessings be
Hurtling and twirling verbage to the ground
Blowing all snowing with sparkle and light
Dragons, they magic make foriegn found.

Alone adrift, amid the massed throng
Smothered and covered unique is his song
Pulling and pushing a tortured soul long
Groping and grasping for a dwelling to belong.

Warbling, trembling this verse ebbs and tides
Enfolding, trusting and sheltering from above
Catch, fondle and handle sentiment blown
Friendship comes from ought else but love?
Love is as big or as little as a hug!!

For rwhen...who inspires

come promises and hug me tightly
blanket strong all wool and anti-winter
thick piled yes upon yes upon yes
saran-wrapped zip-locked tight promises

words sweet raspberry tang juicy
dribbling down down down my chinny-chin-chin
succulent strawberry kiss bites
lick out the flavor with an ah

poetry made for metaphor mangling
pounding out similes on my mind anvil
showers of sparking word play
light bright thought fragments fireworking

wordwright you inspiring poetic conversation
no to and fro discussing Michaelangelo for us
nosireebub we are beyond all that convention
mosaics from word chips meaning from shards

as promised what an incarnation of soul
out of breath I to catch each word firefly
tantalized teased beyond alliterations and
onomatopoeia to find profundity in simplicity

You know Parm, some days I scare myself with what spews forth and I wonder, "does anyone get it?" or am I just massaging my own ego with useless tripe.

Now I see....you got it.

The day I wrote that, I felt totally inspired, then everytime I read it afterwards I questioned my sanity.

Thank you for "getting it".

Brightest blessing to you and Mrs. Parm and the little Parms too.

For Vana -

Come then, be mused
and wooed into sonnets
become all cinquained
deft with haiku all
seventeen syllables of it
silly with sestinas
Vana with villanelles
poetry pirouettes
come then, be mused
and we shall applaud
be awed
at your wonders

To Parm, master of words
More powerful than swords
Who graces TORC, so able,
But is missed at TST, The Stone Table
I give my salute.

My poor attempts I give
in poetic form as I live
To cheer the heart
With the ancient art
Of poetry, less astute.

So with greetings I approach,
To one without reproach,
The master bard
I give this word
And my glad salute.

I shall return to TST
and do so with alacrity.
My thoughts are warm
and mean no harm
that I am absent frequently.

My own salute to greet you here
and for Cock-Robin, wish you cheer,
that blessings flow
where'er you go
though far, in soul, you are quite near.

the delight of a poem is this
i can explore
the
ins and outs
ups and downs
backs and fronts
sides and bottoms
of
word upon
word upon
word
not just for my own
delight
and
pleasure
but in playing thus
you too
will sit down and
toy with the
tickly, giggly,
prickly, stingy,
growly, beastly,
silly, goofy
parts of a poem
for the sheer
whim
of it

For harried and hair-pulling days,
those moments when your jaw drops...thus...
the taxi that you hoped would stop,
not having change to take the bus,
the book that comes ineptly bound,
the cup that leaks and can that sprays,
for mishaps that you cannot fix,
for all these Pepto-Bismal days,
to know that here, within the frame
of poems like this one I write,
awaits a likewise battered soul,
who does not mind to hug you tight
and says, with honest tears and sighs,
"Come in. Come in. How was your day?"
is something here at TORC we do.
Cry first, then come. We need to play.

With honest cheer,
Parm :)

The world is full of singing spring
a greening, blooming, budding spring.
The starlings chatter in their nests,
the horses shed their winter vests,
purple blossoms edge the verge
timid violets emerge.
All, as hymnic voices, praise
God for spring and warming days.

Ah!

Honest Blessings

God bless the house and bless the man
who thought of the electric fan,
the air conditioner and more,
the sensor-activated door.
Lord, though I do not wish to err,
I thank the Dayspring folk who care
to think of lovely cards to send,
to cheer a colleague or a friend.
Thank you, Lord, and may You bless,
the folks at Google, whom I guess,
think a lot like me (deep sigh)
when I misspell--switch 'e' for 'i' --
and they, with gentle nudge, may say,
"Did you mean... this..."? Then click away!
The small, but helpful little things,
of scant poetic offerings,
that clear the thorn-infested path,
like friends who help me with my math.
All these dear souls, Oh, Lord, please bless,
who help me more, so I fail less.

Is there a manual somewhere?

I wonder on days when
I sit with the pre-schoolers watching ants
discuss which accessories go best with
Malibu Barbie with the grade two girls
try to get a three-pointer to the bemusement of
very skilled highschoolers
and watch colleagues shake their heads at me
if I have missed something
is there a manual somewhere
about
growing up
I don't think I got mine
maybe there'll be
a summer edition
right next to the Batman comics which Billy Bradley- Hi! Billy!-
told me (age 11)
are not nearly as good as last month's Spiderman
I live in hope

Election time is drawing near,
and I, Canadian, appear
to read the stories in the press,
that postulate with eagerness
who may be President some day
in that broad land quite far away.
If Arwen had a chance to choose,
and we gave Sam a card to use,
if Smeagol left his lake and boat
to join the hobbit folk to vote,
how would the folk of Middle Earth
choose a leader of great worth?

Isn't it time for poems to rise,
like smoke into the waiting skies,
like fragrances from blossomed trees
awaited by myself and and bees
like fair aromas made from breads
that rouse we sleepy from our beds?
Come poems, then, give birth in me
that I may sigh in poetry.

Ah the lilting melodies sooth my ears
as if they'd been locked away for years

yet grace hath opened them once more
as if to break free a once locked door

so bath my senses in sweet verse and prose
like flowers now fragrant beneath my nose

waking me to visions of a moonlit dance
that happens not by happen chance

but with purpose and yet in play
which sooth me now this fine spring day

There is kindness it that lyric
which evokes a world at play,
there is boldness in that poem
that is calling me away
from all that holds me tightly
and from all that drains my soul.
Ah, dear Vana, maid of moonlight,
how adroit! You heal my soul.

Amid the easy silence of the night,
when all my world has closed its eyes to rest,
the fields of rice with merriment are bright,
as chirruping of frogs within attest.
In days to come, a rumble from some chest--
amphibious--no more a tenor tone--
but richly dark, like twilight from the west,
shall sonorously sing, but not alone.
Tonight, I listen, humming on my own
to mimic nature, praising summer joys,
the midnight mirth around our house has grown,
My lullaby to sleep from joyful noise.
Oh, heaven! May my croakings here be heard,
and welcomed, as the frogs, who do Your Word.

I celebrate this day
when being together
seemed far better
than living separately
when a shared vision
for what a nation could be
gave people eyes
to see beyond what
could have not been
when a tribal word
became a national word
when a colony grew up
and became
Canada
I celebrate
the national discovery that
greatness lies not in what
should be
but in what has
been done
in spite of it
all
when the
differences
are as
distinctive
as the forged
unities
Canada
a dream
I carry
in Japan

something a little darker

Postby pavel ben pavelnash » Tue Jul 01, 2008 9:37 am

The Tale of Stabby Joe

Heed well the tale of Stabby Joe
A boy it wasn’t good to know
You’d never want to be his friend
Unless you craved a messy end

The babe was born on Halloween
When shadows walk and banshees keen
And wild magic fills the air
And phantoms lurk upon the stair

He seemed like any other child,
At first; all mewling, meek and mild
And no one knew, how could they know
What queer instincts stirred below.

It wasn’t really very long
Before things started going ‘wrong’
But mothers love is blind they say
And what is normal anyway?

The babe forsook his mother’s breast
And seemed to think that meat was best
And ate his fill, though all agreed
‘Twas not the way a babe should feed

And as he grew a little older
His eccentricities grew bolder
Until the fateful night unfurled
That shattered baby Joseph’s world

They don’t know how he found the knife
Or how a child could cause such strife
It didn’t make the slightest sense
Though that was really no defence

With glee he ‘jabbed’ his aunty Flo
Then ‘poked’ and ‘prodded’ cousin Mo
Trying to perfect his action
To his murderous satisfaction

After Flo and Mo came Pa
Quickly after followed Ma
Now he slipped the blade in quick
Pulled it out and had a lick

Oh! how they wailed and pleaded “why?”
As he stood and watched them die
“Why ? he asked, “I need to eat
and how else shall I get my meat?”

So all that night he stabbed away
As if he were a child at play
And when the sun began to peep
He said his prayers and went to sleep

The house they found in deepest gloom
They made their way from room to room
Through the lobby dark and tall
Past the case-clock in the hall

Up the stairs they groped their way
Through a house all drear and fey
Until they reached the furthest loft
And someone stepped in something…soft

He sat there with a vacant grin
And liquid dribbled down his chin
And all the floor about was fouled
With corpses rudely disembowelled

The trial played like a vulgar farce
The truth, as usual, sadly sparse
The papers dealt the final blow
They boy! The monster! Stabby Joe!

So Joe to the asylum went
His taste for meat completely spent
He lay in shackles safe and sound
in grimy cells deep underground

Until one stormy Winter’s eve
When floorboards moan and hinges grieve
And bangs the door, and window latch
And foetid nightmares quietly hatch

Did something come to town that night?
That spurned the day and shunned the light
A shadow from the nether World
A thing malignant, crabbed and curled

Perhaps they left the door ajar?
Forgot to draw its heavy bar?
But who forgot to turn the key?
How could it be that Joe was free?

We probably shall never know
How Joe escaped into the snow
The trail he left was nice and clear
And soon the chase drew very near

And so they found him in the wood
But no-one ever understood
Quite how he’d turned his head about
Or who had stabbed his eyes clean out

Stabby Joe was dead and cold
His grisly story all but told
His bones laid in a wretched grave
And fixed down with a sturdy stave

But even now at darkest hour
When children in their nurseries cower
They say his shade can oft be seen
A dismal spectre, gaunt and lean

And was that cry the mewl of cats?
That scuttling noise the toil of rats?
Just speed your step and homeward go
And ‘ware the tale of Stabby Joe.
