My time zone's GMT - so I started this morning (Not at a minute past midnight, sadly! Wish I'd had the energy!) How's everyone doing?

lol well, a whopping 358 words before I head off to work this morning. I started at 7. I may be a writer, but I'm also sane. No midnight madness for me!

I'm already stuck. I guess it's time to start rambling and pepper my novel with ridiculously irrelevant sidestories. :P

I  your sidestories.

Anyway, I'm back to my senses. This is just not a good time for me to concentrate on writing.

Everyone who's going for it, have a blast! I'll cheer on from the sidelines.

Wah, Frelgish. :(

So I have, since yesterday, about 1200 words written, and I hate it and want to start over.

I started last night, chock full of halloween candy and a great story. I got to 2,350 words by midnight.

Now I need to do it again today. And tomorrow. And the next day ...

:(

I'm trying to start over with something new but everything I write feels so horribly clunky and gets me stuck in dead ends. :(:(:(:(:( This has gotta be the worst nano year ever, usually I just start writing and run with it, but this year it's like I'm walking through tar.

Well, several of my friends always say that the first few days/week are the hardest time for them, until they get a feel for the story and the characters, and then things get easier.

Personally, a couple years ago my first idea went nowhere and I had to start completely from scratch on Day 5. Ended up being one of the best things I've ever written.

This time it's going alright. I don't have a great feeling for my characters yet and the story is just getting started, but it's alright, I guess. I've been forcing myself to stay on schedule. End of Day Three and I have 5,251 words, so it's going well.

And I did end up starting over yesterday, and got to 1871 words. That's low for the third day, but now I'm happy with my story and will find it much easier to continue. :D

I'm enjoying pulling out my lap top in laundromats and coffee houses and tippity tapping away. So far, my character won't shut up, so I just continue to take dictation. :P

So, first week (almost) over. How's everyone doing?

As of tonight, I boast a measly 1485 words - not even a full day's worth of writing as 1/30th of 50,000 go. But at the very least they are a somewhat good 1486 as opposed to being an unbelievably bad 1486 so I suppose there's a measure of comfort to be taken there.

.... Now... how can I fit the above into my story... *rubs chin thoughtfully*

[edit: well I did it, and that little boost brings me up to 1820 and gives me a whole new sub-story to pursue. Man I love unexpected inspirations. :D ]

So.. who's willing to share some of what they've already got?

I just blasted past 16,000 words! My book is part of my senior thesis on young adult fantasy and the small percentage of genuine Non-M. Suvian heroines.

I just got 1800 words typed in an hour! My fingers hurt.
I unplug the laptop and see how much I can get done before the battery runs out. 1800 makes me :) .

I'm writing a novel about two characters having a novel-writing contests.

Thus, when I have writer's block, I write about my characters having writer's block and cursing themselves and their muse.

It's extremely therapeutic.

Somewhere over 30, 000 although I had a day off yesterday. Have carried a lot of this story in my head for ages. It's nowhere near 'right' but am just trying to get it down as best I can whilst on a roll!

I'm on 20 000 words. I've got another 10 pages of notebook but I'll type that up tomorrow, I've had a bad day.

I need to start shaving more often.

I had the basis of my book. I finally had my main characters. I started writing and had the first two chapters, and suddenly realized I had no conflict and nowhere to go from there.

Problematic.

And then, this morning, with my face covered in shaving cream and listening to the melodic sound of running water, a beautiful idea smacked me about the face and all the jagged, mystical pieces fitted together and made an almost complete picture. There's still a few bits missing, here and there, but I have enough to last me for the rest of the month. :D

I WON!!! Got up at one today and finished. Man, this is the best feeling in the entire world!

(Of course, now I'm going to clean the novel up and make it something respectable.)

Go Everyone! You can do it!

How's everyone else doing? I'm at 35,566 - got there last night, and I'm finally starting to think I can succeed after spending a week in the hospital earlier in the month.

Getting smashed up in your car probably didn't help much. Congratulations Ugluk and all the other TORC NaNoWriMo winners!
