The Bards' Guild - Let's Sing It One More Time

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

That I should bring such swift delight
brings gladness to my pilgrim soul;
now may more bards enjoy our hearth,
so stoke the flames, bring out the coal!
The autumn I know and love in Calgary.

Wow. I feel as dusty as this thread! So I've been working a lot (I even missed Beryl's birthday last year) I hate my new job with a passion. I am ill a lot but too poor to go to the Dr. I have also noticed something quite alarming. I have noticed significant hearing loss in one ear. I have been a student of ASL (American Sign Language) off and on for most of my life, but that, coupled with some new friends who are Deaf have forced me to take it more seriously. As I started trying to get more involved with the Deaf in my area, I learned that there wasn't much socially in my area for us (Deaf and Hard of Hearing). So we've decided to try to change that. We had our first event today; A Slam (typically poetry, but we aren't typical so it encompassed more of the arts as well, but featured poetry)! As I was prepping for it I started planning a poem to perform. I realized that I had not written a major poem in THREE YEARS! I am ashamed, but since we had the event today, I thought I'd share the finished poem. At some point, I'll film it in ASL and will post the link to that when I do.

The Bridge

I am not normal.
I walk the in-between,
A dark place between two worlds.
I am torn.
I am lost.
I don’t fit here and I don’t fit there.
I long to fit somewhere…

In one ear is
voices, voices!
There is so much, too much sound.
So many things
demanding attention.
My head hurts! Make it stop!
I am so tired…

In my other ear is
Mumble, mumble.
I’m sorry, I didn’t hear that…
Say again.
Say again.
Please look at me when you speak.
I am so tired…

I don’t fit in the
Loud world anymore;
There’s too much noise all around me.
I can’t think.
I can’t focus.
The important things get lost in the noise.
Where am I?

I don’t fit in the
Quiet world either;
My hands are slow and clumsy,
My eyes can’t
Hear that fast.
The important things get lost in the silence.
Where am I?

I sit between
The two worlds.
I am afraid I will be lost here,
In the place
Between worlds.
Because I don’t fit anywhere else.
I long to fit somewhere…

So I shout to be heard
Or I wave to be seen.
This place between is lonely.
But what if…
The loud world
Would learn to quiet down enough to see...

That my hands and
My voice can speak...
And so can theirs, if they will try.
That my ear and
My eyes can hear...
And so can theirs, if they will try.

I am tired.
But I am strong.
I have a lot of work to do here between.
I am sad.
But I am determined.
I have a lot of work to do here between.
I am not lost.
I am the bridge.

You Write a Poem

Postby prmiller » Mon May 15, 2017 9:54 pm

You write a poem
and craft a window.
so we peer inside.
What courage!
You write a poem
and build a door,
so we step inside.
What kindness!
You write a poem
and span a chasm,
so we cross to your side.
What ingenuity!
You write a poem.
and share a treasure,
so we revel in it.
What generosity!

With blessings,
Parm :)

While Stars Peer Down

Postby prmiller » Thu Jun 01, 2017 10:43 pm

I write my heart while stars peer down,
while moonlight glints on velvet greens,
while rabbits run, then pause and wait,
blending into midnight scenes.
I write my love while starts glint bright,
while winds coax chimes to sing their songs,
while voices from the frantic day
grow fewer; soon are gone those throngs.
I write my hopes while moon-limned clouds
glide swiftly in the eboned sky,
the darkness wraps me, but not tight,
and bids me rest my each limb and eye.

Blessings,
Parm :)
The autumn I know and love in Calgary.
