The Bards' Guild - Let's Sing It One More Time

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

A Heads Up.

We might not be combining our festival with the Memorial thread after all, it is up to some debate and Smaug's Bane is running that show, not me and we will abide by his decissions on this. We will open our own festival thread. The question is where? I think that the Guild would be out in force at the Memorial and I propse we keep it at that location with the same theme for contributions.

If not a part of the actual memorial thread, I propose that we begin with re-growing the Splintered Chamber Pot and once we get it up we can get notice about the memorial. I think we can have the Guild turn out for the event only we do it in our own thread and we can have as many songs/poems as come along. we are still welcome and encouraged to participate in the Memorial thread and if we hold ours as I suggest there will be no timeline conflicts between the two.

In the Mithril Knight & spin off threads, Erinhue is still MIA and will be until he isn't, so I think I will create a Steward character who can open the thread and do what is needed and generally stand in for the guild master until the Master Bard does turn up again.

If we aren't working with the MK thread, I see absolutely no reason to abide by any of the constraints the action there has placed on us, 'Hue. If so, I wouldn't have anyone to show up to this party. A Bard's Festival has always been outside of TORC time, outside of RP times, so I don't think you need to make yourself a steward. It's either all one way or the other, and I can see we're best going with a separate festival.

I have a suggestion,if I may, Master Hue.

Agarak is at LFI. I am at LFI.

I have experience "restoring" inns (this one  ), and as we recently remembered, I could once semi-understand the old worm. He can sense when you're coming back.

So what if he senses your immanent return, wakes up, and convinces me to take him somewhere. I hire a crew to run LFI while I'm gone, then set out with my bunch of tag-a-longs and the dragon harp. We find and restore The Splintered Chamberpot in time for Hue and the other bards to show up. While we're celebrating, the news comes and our time of joy turns to one of sorrow.

OK, I hear ya all and I think I need a bit of a rethink on this. I wasn't keen on a steward anyway. I think Guru is also right, perhaps this should be all or nothing one way or the other. If we are gonna open up The Pot it might do well to have a seperate thread and seperate event. The Pot is not a good place for so sad an occassion. If this is not going to be tied to the memorial then we can go any way we want and that includes a theme. No memorial, no need for sad songs... so what say we go the other way and try to be funny?

That sounds great! And if there is any reference to the Memorial, it should be good things. The time for sad songs should be over by the festival.

I'll throw another idea out there since we have to get back to discussing the theme for our festival. Though the weather isn't showing it yet spring is coming. As an amateur gardener I see plants and flowers starting to emerge, reaching out of the ground, pushing leaves out into the breezes. Perhaps we can just go with a theme of spring, and what that means to each of us.

Ya know, Bro' I like that idea and since we are gonna start out by regrowing The Pot it is very fitting indeed. Gonna let this sit for a minute sos others can get a look and add a cent or two if wanted The theme might need a tweak, might not, but I think we got a winner

I likes it!!! The hope of Spring after the sorrow of death would be a great theme, plus, since we haven't had a festival in so long, it can also represent the renewal of our guild.

Forget the death! This is only about Spring and nothing more. Its a chance to think of things light and airy instead of dull and dreadful as winter is.

Please I don't mean to be rude or anything but I have heard enough about the memorial already. That is something totally separate from the Bard's festival!

I too agree with the spring-fling!!
It can signify as a beginning (for me at least. :)) and a rejunevation of the guild for the other bards.

Sid, you've got a point...any chance we can do some advertising? At the very least try to get the word out to bards who haven't been around recently? Right now I count what, seven or eight of us participating? It'd be nice to get more posters in here, see some familiar faces we haven't seen recently.

Sorry guys and gals I did not mean to kill this topic of discussion. I am just feeling frustrated myself over many things and it just seemed that all the talk was about this memorial for a character that was written off. It just seemed to me a bit much at the moment with all I am dealing with in real life too. So just ignore me and go on with your plans for things like the festival.

Hey Vana. Are you well?

And NO! You didn't kill off the discussion at all. The idea seemed excellent to most of us.
And though I respect Dirk. and SB very much, I thhnk Dirk's memorial would not be suitable as a 'festival'. From what I gathered after reading a few previous festivals, a bard's festival is an occasion for cheer and beer and meeting other bards, which I think is not suitable for a memorial.
I am not sayhng that bards should not go at the memoqial, just that it should not be a festival.

Anyway, I am just rambling like a fool.
Just wanted to say the spring-theme suits the weather currently and you are NOT ending the conversation.

Hope everything turns out good for you. My goodwill is with you.

Thanks hon. Just dealing with some set backs in my life. My job is ending after Sunday and it was not expected and so I am out looking for work again and I am so tired and stressed over it. I am just in a bad mood in general because of it. But my health is okay so that is something good that I do have right now. :D

Re: The Bards' Guild - Let's Sing It One More Time

Postby rwhen » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:12 am

As an interlude, I was dumpster diving today and found something that I would like to share.

Originally written on August 12, 2002 as a response to Parm.

A Bards Lament

Before the Bard could take his leave
Gentle Rwhen touches upon his sleeve
She warmly looks him in the eyes
a knowingness, with no veiled disguise....

She closes her eyes and focuses her mind
Opening her past, so that he will find
That she as well has met the fate
Of nameless Bards, the broken slate..

Empty nights, heavy hearts so full
Writing songs, that are beautiful
For savage ears to hear and then dismiss
only a human ignorance, can hurt like this...

O Bard, let me fill you with my song
Take this with you on your journey long
Read my heart and know my pleasure
Of giving you this solemn treasure...

Holding him tight in a firm embrace
She feels the tears upon his face..
Gently kissing each one away
There are no words that she can say..

Beauty is found when rarely sought
This can not be curried, can not be bought
For you my friend tho you must depart
You shall take with you, my loyal heart...

And we will meet again, but not in this place
and my joy will be great, sweet smile on my face
For there is no thing greater, nor higher goal
Then to finally reunite with a kindred soul...
Love is as big or as little as a hug!!

Postby Erucolindon Atarnarmo » Wed Mar 20, 2013 6:46 pm

Hail Friends and Bards. It is I, Erucolindon, or Atar as I am known to some here and there. I have finally returned after a long absence. I was journeying in far lands, when the distant rumor of a Bard's festival reached my weary ears. As an apprentice bard, I thought it was high time for me to return to this place and take a shot at earning full bardship. So I packed up my instrument and slowly made my way back. The journey was arduous, but the thought of delicious refreshing beer waiting at the end spurred me on (really it was the thought of being around wonderful bards and folk like that, but the beer did help). So, now that I've arrived, I am looking forward to the ceremonies. Beer for everyone!
And welcome to all the new(er) apprentice bards. Good luck if you are participating, and may we each bring something special to the Guild.

CR. LOL. Yes indeed. I have been about as far up the Bardic ladder as one can go I think. You can confirm that with the Master but back in the day I was out and about as the wandering sort of Bard. Calenrond used to keep all our stats, I don't know if that is still up and going these days.

Thank you each and all. Some days are better than others. Parm moved me to tears on that day and I had to respond with a Lament for him.

Welcome back Atar.
