The Bards' Guild - Let's Sing It One More Time

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

It's okay, Luthy. If you wanted to pop in there and wrap things up, you'd still be welcome.

*tentatively peeks in*

Through many trials,
Through many years,
O'er many mountains,
And rivers of tears,

Under moonlight,
And under star,
My feet have wandered
Ever so far,

But as the world
Is laid out round
So too my path has
Turned homeward-bound;

And now, long last,
I peek to see
If still exists here
Room for me?

*rummages around in a back corner, then carries out a large object covered in a white dust cloth. Setting it down, Guru pulls off the fabric to reveal a remarkable chair. The woodwork is covered in exquisite carvings, and the padded seat is heavily embroidered.*

We've kept a seat here for you. It's good to see you back here again!

Gets PB a fresh mug of some fabulous wheat beer (from the local brewery), then gives Vana a warm hug as well and maybe even dances around the room with her a bit before flopping into that marvelous chair Guru has provided

Soooo...what's happening folks?

Winter seems to be passing us by at a nice pace, so I think the opportunity for a winter festival is going the direction of snow in a warm breeze. Maybe something for the spring?

Postby siddharth » Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:58 pm

Hail ye Bards!!!
I come from afar.
A song I bring,
And my sweet harp.
I love poetry.
But for me it's hard
Still hear this bore,
And his ABC lore.

Aragorn the Ranger, tall and grim.
Bilbo Baggins had a lust for his Ring.
Caradhras the cruel, so silent, so still.
Denethor the wise, who lost his own will.
Eru Illuvatar, greatest of all.
Frodo Nine-fingered, a hobbit so small.
Gandalf the Grey, the Balrog's bane.
Hama at the Deep, died in vain.
In fair Ithillien, dwells Faramir still.
JRRT, oh I love him, always will.
Khuzdul the secret language of dwarves.
Legolas I think, makes a great bard.
Morgoth or Melkor, mother of evil.
Nimrodel flows, to the sea she will.
Oliphaunts are great,
but don't like PJ's take.
Palantirs would make,
fish-bowls great.
Queen Bertuthiel, solitary and loveless.
Widely known for cat-espionages.
Radagast the wizard, has the title "Brown".
Smeagol! preciousssss, always frowned!
Thorin Oakenshield, King under the mountain.
Undomiel Arwen, youth's eternal fountain.
Vana the ever-young, soulmate of orome.
Wormtongue Grima, had chosen the wrong way.
X for nothing, as I have no names.
Yavanna the Vala, creator of beings.
-Zaram, Kheled known as the Mirror-mere.
My boring tale now ends here.
An hour and a half I have spent on this.
I wish I am taken as an apprentice!

Thanks Vana, for the link. I have now posted there. As I see it, I think it will take time before I get selected. I will wait. :D

And very much thanks for your compliment about my poem.
I did see some of the previous entries submitted there, and I know I have a lot to improve. And that is why I am here. I can't write very well, but I do wish to write good poems.

So, if I get selected, what happens next? Any competitions or so?

Thanks a lot again Vana, my friend. <3

Well you will most probably get selected to join with us and then you write and post here or help us put on festivals around the boards when we have selected a theme and write to fit the theme. When you post at a festival then you progress in your status as a bard.

Now the one rule we have is this "Buy a Bard a Beer!!" So when you see the Master Bard Erinhue then offer to "Buy a Bard a Beer!" He will appreciate it very much. Then anytime you post somewhere and being a Bard is mentioned then you do the same and "Buy a Bard a Beer!" :D Silly we know but great fun!!

Well it's officially official. We gots us a new apprentice.

Now as to a festival, so sorry I have been so neglectful but single parenting can be challenging and the boy and I do like to have them regular meals. Seems to be a bit of a lull on the work front, not that I do all that much anyway, so Im gonna give this some thought and see if we can't get something started. I won't take so long to get back here again, Bard's Promise :D

A heartfelt thanks to you Master erin.
And it is a great honour and privilege
to be a part of the greatest guild herein
Where I can write good poems, under your tutelage.
I came here to better my strongs and improve my weaks.
And also to know how a great bard speaks.
So, my greetings and pledge to the Master bard.
That I am here, to believe it's hard.
Grateful to Vana, who showed me the way
when lost I was, and had gone astray.
Also I thank'ee
should I call Master PB?
For encouraging it is, what you say.
I am a bard at last!!! Oh happy day!!

Thanks a lot Master erin, PB and Vana.

Master erin, I hope the festival is not in March? I have an exam at that time.

I was thinking the end of March/beginning of April. Not ta worry though, these things generally last a week or so anyway so you could have a chance to pop in and post. I am out of town the beginning of April so I need to check my own calendar.

Any suggestions for a topic, not saying that will be it, but I do like ta know what you all think.

If you feel you must put a word of rank before my name, Lady or Mistress is what I'm used to, but Heather or PB without the addendum is fine. :D

Master Hue! Tis good to see you! *hug*

Heather slipped behind the bar and started pouring tankards and pints for all the bards.

Postby PatriotBlade » Wed Feb 20, 2013 10:09 am

We should do another April Fools theme! Everyone's been talking about a "Roving Festival", and April Fools is the most fitting time to do that! You know, do the whole bit where everyone dresses up and acts the fool as they follow the "Green Man" (Hue) about and no one could deny us entry.

Sid, generally festivals are just a chance for us to share our poetry, usually in a "RP" (your bard character) setting and on a given theme. How you interpret the theme is usually up to you and there is usually no set style of poetry you have to use. The rest of your time at the festival is mingling and getting to know your fellow bards.

Welcome Sidd! :)

Takes up a pint and gives her writer a meaningful look through the glass.

Yes at gatherings you'll have an opportunity to move up in ranks. If you write at this one we're planning you'll be a Journeyman if I remember correctly. The original thread has a full listing of ranks and that.

A Roving Festival sounds like fun! :)

April Fool's...that brings back the memories...

It's a good idea, but it gets awkward after a bit. April 1st is a single day, and if the thread keeps going very long, as they generally do, it becomes a bit weird...

Okay... What if (we get permission from the MODS first) we start a thread in each forum for the festival. Each of us can then choose which forum we wish to post our submission in (you can do more than one), and we'll write it as part of our "parade of fools", then we have an actual Festival thread for our rp-ing and mingling in case it runs long. But all submissions must be posted within the 24 hrs of April 1st (your local time).
